Weakness:

I think it's all been said

HMMMMM......*POOR* build quality. locks up all the time. Bombastic audio clicks and pops. This unit wasted the tweet on my NHT center. Would rate this a "0" if I could.
* PURE JUNK *

Strength:

Picture quality, Plays CD-R/RW.

Weakness:

Build quality, Noisy, Remote

In beginning of 80:s i bought a Pioneer stereo system. Build quality of every single component was quite poor and after just 3 years all 3 components was unusable/broken.
Well, times have changed and last year i made a small step aside from my Sony dominated world of gadgets - The 525.
Well, well... This unit is VERY cheap built. Plastic, plastic, slow noisy tray, VERY noisy spindel motor (or something) that almost makes the unit useless.
The remote is a JOKE. A real pain in the ass. Almost impossible to use since you have to look at it for a minute befor you can find the right button, and that is AFTER 8 months using..
Pioneer seems to have learned NOTHING the last 20 years.
Fortenately the picture, sound and features are good enough.
This is my last Pioneer. Next time i'll stick to Sony again...

Strength:

Audio, video quality. Plays CDR too

Weakness:

Some but not significant

Not need to mention again about all the features. There is one point that I want to make is that for the price of it ($250 a year ago), there are not any better DVD player out there can perform the same way with the DV-525

Strength:

CDR, Good Picture, Reasonable Sound

Weakness:

Very Noisy, Diffcult remote, Cheap Build, Muddy Analog Audio

Bought for 1 week, had to return it due to very noisy transport. Unbearable when movie is quiet. Picture and digital sound appeared good. However analog sound was very muddy, lacked the clarity I expected.
Plays CDR's which is great.
Overall build poor. Very flimsy and light. Player would move around when pushing buttons.
SOund multi-zoned which is a bonus.
Reasonable player if you can handle the transport noise.
