My first unit was DOA

Awesome unit. I purchased it from Onecall for 249, minus 50 rebate. I also got the Audioquest component video cable for a great price (regular 220) - only 150 bucks for 29 feet. The picture is WAAY clearer than the Panasonic. Granted, the Panasonic was using Svideo and mine is component, but the Panasonic had pixellation problems with most movies. Facing dead on towards the screen, you may not notice it, but any angle less than about 150 degrees from the screen (180 being dead on) and you see the picture is made of round dots, reminds me of those freakin pointilism paintings those french artists used to do. Anyhow, this Receiver rocks for value. Easily "worth" 350 bucks.

Strength:

Sharp picture, so sharp i almost got an eye poked out

Weakness:

**WARNING** Major lip sync prablems on Bruce Lee movies!! (HAHAHAHA)

Hey, so far, so good. I diddnt get any rebate or anything, i just bought it for $299 bucks, and its still worth it! Some people complain about the noise and stuff and they have a right to, becasue some people get "bad eggs". about 8% of the pioneer dvd players are lemons, but thats a small percentage compared to others!

Strength:

plays audio CD's, & CD-R's with no problem; several different connection types in back of unit

Weakness:

None found

I arrived at BestBuy to purchase the cheap GE DVD player that was advertised for $169. Afer the salesman told me that the GE might not play CD-R or music CD's I opted for the Pioneer. So far, this has been a excellent unit. The video quality seems excellent. The music CD's & CD-R's run as well as any CD drive I've used. I actually had some problem running CD-R's on my older CD player but this unit works well with them. I have heard some say that the lesser DVD players will not play some DVD's like "MATRIX". I'm happy to report that I've watched the "MATRIX" DVD several times on this Pioneer unit. I think for the price ($255 with a $50 mail-in rebate, plus 5 free DVD's) you can't go wrong. It's a good unit..Enough said.....

Strength:

price, features for the buck

Weakness:

jaggies, no zoom

This player is a nice bang for the buck but I am going to
return my unit because it displays "jaggies" on a moving
picture much more than other players. This is especially noticeable when there is a light colored object moving across the screen over a dark background or vice versa. If the frame is stopped, the picture looks more natural, but once the movement starts again the jaggies appear.
The features were nice on this unit, but the most important trait of all - picture quality - is suffering from the jaggies. I am really disappointed. I had high hopes for this unit after reading the reviews on audioreview.com.. Has anyone else noticed the jaggies from this unit? I am using a 55 inch big screen, so I imagine the jaggies are more evident than on a smaller set.

Strength:

good picture and good price

Weakness:

i have experienced lip sych problems on "lost in space" and noticed audio drop as well. Austin Powers ran fine with a little lip sync problem but it wasnt bad. I have watched Heat and The Matrix without problems. Both Austin Powers and Lost in Space are put out by new line cinema. I don't know if its a problem with their output quality or if its a problem with my player. I'd appreciate if anyone could email me info on "problem dvd's" Thanx

Good picture and good price, I can live with the remote. My unit is quiet also. I am running a dolby surrond stereo, but I am going to switch to a Dolby digital one so maybe it will fix the sound problem if there is any.

Strength:

Great picture, Great Sound

Weakness:

Perhaps fewer features than competitors

I'm glad I waited for this 4th generation player. It performs better than models selling for twice the price. Outstanding picture resolution. No artifacts, pixelization, synchronization or any other problems that plagued older products. Great performance from CDs and 24/96 digital out for future flexibility. Component outs as well. It doesn't have some of the features (Zoom, backlit remote etc.) that some competitors offer, but it's the top performed of the lot.

Strength:

Price, features.

Weakness:

See Summary

This units audio "locked up" several times while playing "the matrix", the audio out put at that time was a very loud piercing tone. Also, the audio dropped out altogether momentarilly while listening to other disks. The video also was bad at times
(pixelated?). I got this at costco for $269.00 and will exchange it with another unit tonight. From the tone of these reviews I'm hoping "a good one" will be not too hard to come by.

Great Pic, Great CD sound, Plays CD-R's!

Weakness:

remote is way to small, tray is loud when loading

I have to say i have used the panasonic A310 and the Toshiba 2008 and this dvd player just blows them away. The picture is so good(It may be the sony wega TV it is hooked up to though :) and i haven't had any problems like the other few with lip sync or audio drop out so i think they just got bad players. I got this player for $179 at valueamerica because I got the visa deal and i think it is the best DVD player under $400.

Strength:

Great picture & Sound

Weakness:

Slightly noisy mechanically.

A great unit for the price. No problems with Matrix. A minor pause changing layers on "The Mummy". Less then a second dropout on Sarah's "Mirrorball". No problems on anything else after playing about 30 other DVD's. I don't think you'll find anything better for the price ($477 Canadian)
