Strength:

Great Picture, Great Sound, User controls for color, brightness and contrast.

Weakness:

Breaks down after a year.

Well, I just got that H02 message today, after owning the player for about a year. At first, the picture was flickering and I attributed it to a faulty cable. Then picture and audio froze. When it worked it had a great picture and sound. But this makes me wonder about Panasonic quality in general.

Strength:

Price Looks Picture quality

Weakness:

Pasansonic's missing integrity Quality control

Well after about one year of ownership (and liking it for the most part) I got the dreaded H02 error. I took the advice of a fellow reviewer here and took off the cover and spun the gears. Hey...It worked!...for about an hour. The spinner(?) just keeps winding up and spooling down. The movies play, but stop and jerk along now. Even though I had really enjoyed this player for the amount of time I had it...if I had know of this VERY COMMON issue with the HO2 error code I would've not bought it. For people who have had this unit for over 1 year(that seems to be the time before this problem arises) be forwarned, you have a ticking doorstop waiting to happen.

Strength:

Plays DVD, CD, MP3's

Weakness:

Broke after less than 1 year with H02 error.

I bought this last year right after Christmas. It has worked great for the last year. Today I got the dreaded H02 error and (after extensive web searching) see this is a common problem. Per other reviews, I went inside to take a look. The DVD would play if you help the drive start. But would not start on its own. However, I spun the plastic gear within the drive and now it stars up on its own. Not sure how long until I go back in but for now its working.

Weakness:

Quality control defects cause problems after warrantee expires

I bought my RP-56 one year and two weeks ago. It has stopped paying discs. I now see an error message "H02" and the player stops. I did some searching on the internet and this appears to be a very common problem with all Panasonic DVD players. As faras I can tell, only Panasonic can make this repair. H02 indicates there is a "spindle server error". The disc doesn't spin. I tried taking the case off and helping the player start by giving the disc holder a spin with my finger and that actually makes it work! Luckily, I purchased the extended service option, so I can still get it serviced for free. I bought this player for $250, back on 9/2001, and paid $50 for a four year service plan and dang it, I'm gonna use this player for the next three years! I will not buy another panasonic DVD player and would not recommend it.

Strength:

Everything was great while it worked.

Weakness:

Customer service called multiple times to try to sell me an extended warantee... now I know why.

I had the same problem as apparently several other people. After 1 year to the day, the unit displayed the "H02" error code. I opened it up and pushed, pulled, and banged on things and nothing worked. POS! Next time I'll buy a Sony.

Strength:

good picture very good sound quality

Weakness:

flimsey build and seems to give the h02 error within a year

After 1yr and 2months of use I got the h02 error and no matter what I tried it wouldn't work. So I took off the case spun the plastic gear on top of the eject tray. I also turned the plastic gears inside of the tray. Then I opended the tray and inserted a DVD. Just as soon as the machine took the DVD in and closed i pushed down on the center of the plastic wheel on top of the tray and spun it. The DVD player picked up on the spin I gave it and began accelerating and has worked ever since. Just thought I would share with everyone and see if it works for you. Jason

Strength:

video quality supports a wide variety of formats price

Weakness:

tinny sound lag time reading dvd

For the price its ubelievablably packed with options, supports a wide range of formats; mp3,cd's,vcd... The video is great, and unlike other reviews I haven't had alot of problems with it stopping on me.If it has it is either because it needed to be cleaned or the Dvd was dirty. The audio unfortunately is a little tinny but overall it is not bad, I can't tell the difference with bass plus on
