Strength:

Cosmetics...good.

Weakness:

With H02, your dead in the water!

I just rented 2 movies over the weekend, went to pop one in the DVD player and guess what...I got the damn H02 error. It would not spin the disc or anything, the only thing it would do is display the 1st and 2nd 0, blank out and read H02. I tried unplugging everything and reconnecting...but nothing, searched to find any info but I was unsuccessful. My solution...I went and treated myself to the X-Box by Microsoft, I heard the dvd player is good, you need to buy the remote($20), and the games kick butt. I also bought a two year warranty plan from Best Buy, 25 bucks, just in case! What a waste PANASONIC! I feel kinda bad just throwing it in the garbage but I guess...I bought garbage. 1year of use what a waste.

14 months old and I just received my very own H02 code. How F......n special I must feel. And to boot Trutone tells me in one sentence that they have never heard of one of these going bad, but in another sentence they say that it is common for equipment of that age to need upgrading. HOW STUPID OF ME. NO MORE!

I bought the Panasonic RV 31 DVD PLAYER from the Brick, and last night experianced my Ho2 error...The player is toast. I can't beleive it only lasted 14 months, and it was the first time I skipped on the extended warranty. Dealers should not sell this crap, I will never by Panasonic again, going back to Toshiba. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

Strength:

Works great while under warranty.

Weakness:

Cheap parts. Not a very durable product. Truly poor service help. A friendly helpful attitude would go far. I wasn't truly pissed till I read all these identical problems.

Like alot of reviewers, product worked great for 14 months then I got H02 error. I had a hard time finding out what that meant. Talked with Panasonic Service and even they wouldn't tell me directly, not even a hint. Closest Service center is 100 miles so they recommended I mail it in> Costs $45.00 to get it in the door, non-refundable, $89.00 minimum repair cost if they fix it. I will never but Panasonic again!!!

Strength:

Performed with all around high marks

Weakness:

Will die on you within a year.

This DVD player performed remarkably for the 14 months or so I used it. And I used it quite a bit. A DVD is played on average once a day here. The video quality is great, compared to other players of it's price range, and the sound is excellent. It was a recommended buy.... ...until the stupid thing broke, due to poor quality manufacturing. Yesterday I received the dreaded "H02" code, and I wanted to backslap Panasonic for not even mentioning what H02, H01, or any H-- meant. Panasonic knows they done f---ed up too, because their whole RV*1 line is discontinued, but I feel cheated. I wish they had taken some responsibility for their actions and given me a new model player at least. If you ever see this model DVD player, DO NOT buy it, unless you have money to waste.

Strength:

Decent price and ease of operation. So far very reliable.

Weakness:

None

This is my first DVD player and have been very satisfied with it's performance. With an s-video connector it brought my 10 year old Zenith TV to a new high in picture colour and definition. Have not had occasion to use other features on the unit but for a unit that I just plugged in and played it's great and has not skipped a beat in the 9 months I have owned it. It plays cd's ok but I have a great 4 year old Yamaha cd player that blows this one away in sound reproduction altho this one would suit anyone who was not an audio enthusiast or audiofile {I didn't buy it for cd's but played around with it just for fun} This player would be ok for cd playing for someone who just wanted to hear the music and was not too fussy. It is very easy to operate with the remote and pretty well all controls are duplicated on the front of the unit. I am going to give this player to my son as I am now moving up to a HD widescreen TV and want to go the Pro-Scan route. Have not decided on a new DVD player but my first choice will be another Panasonic.

Strength:

MP3 support,CD-R, VCD, remote is nice, optical audio (as with most...)

Weakness:

Broke less than a year later. Construction felt flimsy. Was expensive.

Not a good product. Price in Canadian $ I bought this to replace my RV30 that could not play MP3s. I owned it for about 8 months with no problems, then one day it just wouldn't read any disks at all, CD or DVD it would end up scanning it for a few seconds then giving me an R01 error on the display. I brought it back to the Brick (luckily I purchased the extended warranty) and they could not fix whatever was wrong with it so they gave me the RV32 as a replacement item. When I bought the RV31, it felt much lighter smaller and less quality than the RV30, I didn't have any real problems with the RV31 except for when it died but it is not something I would own again. It was also overpriced considering the RV32 is < $200 this year

Strength:

If it has any strength, the commonly occuring HO2 errors nullify it.

Weakness:

Panasonic needs to fix the HO2 error problem before flooding their junky DVD players in the market.

I would recommend not to buy any Panasonic DVD players as long as Panasonic Manual mentions about errors starting with code-H (the most common being HO2). Since Panasonic is a great brand name many may ignore this suggestion. To those I would recommend that you buy the Extended Warranty if you plan to use the player for sometime. Incidentally, the warranty may cost you same as a cheaper but new DVD player. The HO2 errors are very common place for all low cost (less than $200) Panasonic DVD players and these problems can not be fixed unless you pay an amount that can buy you a new player. I would not have minded if this product had cost me $50 like many other cheaper DVD players in the market. I chose Panasonic hoping their product will be more robust. It isn't. The fixes for HO2 error suggested by some reviewers aren't fullproof, they are just temporary fixes. A $200 product needed to be more robust.
