I have all panasonic products and am very happy with my system. But I must say adding the panasonic dvd-c220 to is was a let down. It is a real corners-cut kind of product at a budget price. I'll probably get a panasonic dvd player as I don't want to break up the family but this one is just a joke. I am willing to forgive them this time though! |

I agree with Antone that this was a letdown from Panasonic. I too have had lots of luck with other Panasonic equipment but was not happy with this purchase and will be trading up. I hope Panasonic gets the bugs out for the next version, but until then I can not recommend the Panasonic DVD-C220 5-Disc DVD Player. |

I agree that the design flaws are way beyond what we can reasonably expect even in an early generation...BUT the PRICE is SOOOOOOO GOOOOOOD! Unfortunately no points are given for low price! |

This is not a bad product at all. For the money you get a CD player and a DVD player. Face it, if you bought this product expecting the same quality CD player or DVD player you could have bought individually for the same price, stay out of electronics stores. For the price it is a fun toy. I enjoy hopping back and forth from my favorite CD tracks to sections on DVDs that I have "bookmarked". I like that the drawer only goes in when you push the button, I bet I get more life out of this carousel because of that feature. Who ares about the display lights, they are cute and green or orange. The picture quality was good enough to allow you to notice errors in movies that you would normally ignore. (In the Matrix when Trinity is leaping from building to building you can see the ceiling of the sound stage where the set was built. I never noticed this on VHS.Cool player, get em while they are around and kill two birds with one stone. |

I have had this product for a couple of months and I have to say that I don't have any problems with it. It does what it suppose to do and that is play dvd. The picture and audio is up tp standards. I can only imagine what it would look like if i use a s-video output. I don't know much about the panasonic manufacturer, but I do know that this company has been around for many years and they try to achieve the best quality for the money. If you want to spend over 500 dollars on a dvd players by all means seek for a higher end player. But the cost and ability to hold 5 discs and play them with descent sound and picture than this player is for you. I sure wish people will justify their "bashing" toward this product and Panasonic. Simply saying this product is trash will not do. An expalnation is needed. If there is ant technical problem with this unit, please let us know. |

Well, here I go again! I posted proof in earlier reviews (below) with examples. I cant believe those who own the C220 havent found the "disk missing" problem that I noted below. Anyway and anyhow, I will agree, if you can buy this unit for $350 or less, I'd do it. Thats better than spending the same $$ for a single player. You will also have to put up with gliches like having to power the unit off/on when it starts skipping disk loadings. But for the $350 its probably something to live with. As far as the picture/sound quality, it did play the DVD's ok, and has dts out too. But I really miss it not displaying the remaining track time onscreen when playing the dts music DVD CD's or any music CD's. I was expecting the new Sony 200 disk player by now, but who knows? I myself like the idea of storing up to 200 DVD's in a player for callup on demand. And displaying all the titles of the 200 DVD's onscreen for picking. Iam sure Panasonic, Toshiba and the rest will have 200-disk or more players by this time next year. Iam wondering why Sony is delaying its 200-disk player release, since the sales devision long ago announced its coming to TV and Sound stores everywhere...? Any Sony people out there able to fill us in? |

Strength:
Attractive with a quick disc changing options for cd random play
Weakness:
Orange and Green lights. The Panasonic C220 is a nice product. Besides having an attractive appearance, the quick disc changing makes it fun and enjoyable. The remote is easy to use and the set up options are identical to the Panasonic A310. Nice set up! This DVD player is definitely worth its' price. You can find this player for as low as $389.00 at ebay.com. I would suggest purchasing the player at onecall.com where you can receive a price match. If you are seriously looking for a CD changer and DVD player, this is the unit you should pick up. I've tested the Toshiba six-disc changer and the Pioneer three-disc changer. Nice players, however the Toshiba moves too slowly and its not as stylish. The Pioneer looks and sounds great, but you'll only get a three-disc changer opposed to five or six. The audio outputs for Dolby Digital and DTS were very good and crisp. This player has a S-Video connection, coaxial and Optical output. Unfortunately, previous reviews of this player have not been rated honestly. If you truly own this player, you'll be completely happy with your purchase. Strength:
Quick change, excellent picture and sound
Weakness:
Getting familiar with some functions I paid a visit to my local Circuit City which displayed the Panasonic DVD Changer, Toshiba DVD Changer, the Onkyo DVD Changer and the Sony DVD 200 Disc and five disc Changer. All of the players picture quality was truly excellent since they use a 10 bit video chip. I viewed the pictures on a Toshiba 32 inch screen. There weren't any noticeable picture degradation from one unit to the next. They all had great picture quality. The only other difference between the players were the built-in dolby digital decoders. All of the players have a built-in decoder except the panasonic. All have DTS output, S-video, optical output and coaxial outputs. The Panasonic stood out because of it's quick change mechanism. It moves like lightening speed compared to all the other Changers on the market. As a matter of fact, I chose to buy it over the others because it moves faster, looks better and is the smallest out of the changers. I have a dolby digital/DTS decoder so I didn't need the built-in dolby digial that the other players have. Most importantly, the price of this Player was the most inexpensive of the players. This is really a great buy if you need a cd changer and dvd player. Two thumbs up for this player! Similar Products Used: Onkyo Six Disc DVD Chnager, Toshiba DVD Changer, Sony 200 Disc DVD Changer |

Strength:
Plays DVDs and CDs just fine. VSS works well.
Weakness:
Lights indicating disks in the changer are a bit confusing. I bought the Panasonic over the Sony 5-disc changer since it was $150 cheaper. Digital outputs of CDs/DVDs are all ones and zeros so either the unit can read it or it can't...there is no difference as far as I could tell. I have DD/DTS decoding in my receiver (Denon AVR2800) so I didn't need it to be onboard the DVD player. I use S-Video to the receiver then to the TV and the picture and sound (Wharfedale Modus Movies 5) is great. The clarity and detail of both sound and sight blow me away everytime. Strength:
Very fast disc exchange rotation mechanism; excellent sound and picture; good CD playing features (random and program mode); excellent at playing damaged discs.
Weakness:
Remote (keys small, not backlit) Like others, I am amazed at the number of people who seem to have nothing more to do than to bash what is a great product. Also, the whole issue with the lights is mindboggling. The lights work just fine and frankly, I find them to be very helpful. It doesn't take much to understand that an orange light indicates there is a DVD in the particular tray, a green indicates a CD and no light means no disc. WHat is the big deal?! OK, so the player has to scan each tray after it is opened to "refresh" the light indicator but at most that is a minor inconvenience, particularly when you consider that other players won't give you any information at all except as to which disc is currently playing. |
