Here are some examples of why it sucks. (1) The lights on front are meaningless. (2) The drawer does not close when you press on it. (3) The 5-disc display is so small you cannot read it further than three feet away. (4) The slot number is not displayed when playing. (5) You cannot display time remaining without going into the menu system. And these are just the most obvious problems. God...you are easily satisfied. If someone doesn't complain we'll just get more and more of this kind of crap.

This one seems like a real rush job for Pannasonic. I got mine at Target so I still have pleanty of time to wait for a "real" dvd changer. The price is right for a 5-disc player, but that's about all I can say in its favor.

Might be my fault? I emailed to Panasonic the reviews here so they would maybe take note. Now I see posts supporting their product. I just had one more quirk on the panasonic 220 for those that need hard proof. I had found, when skipping disks to a different disk, the unit lost track of what disk it was working with and would start skipping one of the 5 disks entirely - all the time. It would load disk 1-4 but skip disk 5 and start with disk 1. Almost like it thought it was a 4-disk changer. The only way to correct this was to power off the unit and on again. PS... I only want to expose poor products and praise good ones. I now have the Sony 5-disk changer and it has worked fine. I will exchange it for the Sony 200-disk changer when its out (within 30-days). But the Sony I am using now has NO sync problems, it just works smoothly. We have nothing against Panasonic. I have some great Panasonic products - like my VCR. But this 5 disk changer mod 220 is a very poor unit and I think we are all shocked a company like Panasonic would release this to the public as it is. Strange!

Randy M. - It is great to hear the Sony people have fixed the sync problem. I am irritated with the 220 but was afraid of the Sony because of the sync problem. Can you tell us if the display and opperation is like their great cd changers - I hate how the 220 operates - like I hate not being able to close the drawer by pushing on it (and a lot more - most of which has been already mentioned). Maybe you can do a full 650 review, I am very interested in that product.

Pass this one up unless you are on a budget. The price is great but you are getting what you are paying for.

I have both this player and the Sony 650. The Sony was a lot more expensive, but the 220 looks ooh so cheap next to the 650. The pannasonic DVD-C220D is for the budget minded only.

This is really not bad for DVD playing--quite adequate sound and picture for the price. For CD playing, however, it is the changer from hell! No thought at all about making an interface that will satisfy those who play mainly CDs.

Common Pannasonic. All my equipment is Pannasonic but it looks like this one's goin' back to Target. Maybe I'll get one of your better single-disc DVD players but I kinda wanted a changer. I still have a couple of months to decide. I'd hate to break up the family, but Pannasonic, you really let me down this time big time.

Why does everyone keep bashing this product without providing details? I am still looking to buy a DVD player and need good input, not just bashing a company with "rumors". If the A-120U is soooo great, than why and how could this one be soooo bad?
If you are going to submit reviews - at least be helpful to the consumers who are reading these reviews.

Give me details - is the picture and sound quality poor? Or is it just the CD part people aren't liking?

And... if you don't like this product - how do you feel about the A-120U (the one I am thinking about getting)?

HELP!

3 stars just to stay neutral.

It is interesting that most of the 1 star ratings are from people who have not even seen this player and are simply looking at someone else's comments or are comparing it to items not yet out. Interesting that you can give a review on two products that you have not yet even seen. For those that have seen it the three main complaints they seem to have are that the buttons do not work as we thought, the display isn't what it should be, and that the output quality isn't as good as ???. I agree with the first. I was let down that the changer did not autoscan and update the lights. The buttons are very useful though as once you put a disk in you can simply push the corresponding button and the tray will close and begin playing. That is better than most players where you close it and then select which disk to play. The buttons are somewhat of a let down but still serve a purpose.
As for the display, I have no trouble reading it from anywhere in the room and am not concerned that it is hard to display a countdown timer (you need to know how many seconds are left why??) It could have been designed a little more pleasingly but more than serves it's purpose.
The audio quality and video quality is very good. For all of you self proclaimed 'videophiles' that bought your device at 'Target' I have to first question whether you have a clue what you are talking about, secondly ask what type of equipment are using to utilize its output, and thirdly ask what is it that you have used in your home that has given so much better quality? I find both the video and audio to be extremely crisp and on par if not better than what I have seen in the showrooms.
I paid $350 for the device and besides the anoying issue with the lights not being %100 the gimmic I thought they would be I am pleased. I was looking for a Sony DVD changer to match my receiver but since they had not yet released one that had DTS output (my receiver has DTS decoding) I went with what was available. I could wait until the fall but then there will be better items on the horizon. A 200 DVD changer? Great. But I do not want to store my DVD's and cds in a changer especially since it would not hold them all anyways. The Toshiba sounds interesting adding a 6th disk but it was not out to compare and may not have some of the nice features that the Panasonic has such as the ability to continue playing while changing other disks.
If you have an educated review with details of what is better than other comprable DVD changers currently out please post it. If you have not used the device and are measuring it against items not yet out and not in the same price range please just read the posts. If you believe that there was a conspiracy at Panasonic to see if they can get consumers to buy junk please seek help.
