Strength:

Very good picture and audio quality.

Weakness:

Reliability

It worked flawlessly for two years and died (pixelization, freeze-up, etc.). Repair estimate was $250 for replacement optical pickup and IC board. Not worth it considering a competitive unit can be had brand new for $200. I will not buy another Panasonic product. Four stars for video/audio quality, zero stars for reliability.

Strength:

Decent video, DTS, reasonable price (when I bought it)

Weakness:

Reliability is poor

For the first 22 months of it's life, the Panasonic DVD-A110 performed flawlessly. Then one day it happened. The player began breaking up on DVDs. It began to freeze and lock up in the middle of movies. The video become pixilated and the audio stopped. Often the DVD itself stopped playing altogether (although the player indicated that it is still in play mode). If I take the same DVDs that cause problems on the A-110 and play them on another DVD player (not a Panasonic), they play perfectly every time.

Obviously, I am headed to the store to buy another DVD player. The A-110, sadly, is headed for the trash can.

Strength:

Good picture, good sound, high end features at reasonable price.

Weakness:

Dies after less than 24 months

Bought DVD after reading reviews. At that time all were saying good things about this player. I have not used it very extensively but have had increasing problems with pixelation, layer transition, etc.

It sucks having the player die after running perhaps 60 discs though it. The cost per use was about $CDN 8.00 per use. Slightly less than movie costs.

I won't buy Panasonic players again however I've been very happy with the 32" GAOO monitor.

Strength:

Great Video, Great Audio, SVideo outs, multiple av outs. It still works no matter what I do to it.

Weakness:

will not play CDR's

This was the first DVD player I ever bought. I bought it in August of 1998. It has been through HELL and has never broke down yet. I have abused it,moved 2000 miles with it in the trunk of a car with no box, it has been pee'd on by a dog, it has been used during an electrical storm with no surge protection and the power was cutting on and off, I even threw a big Kenwood romote control at it, it broke the front plastic display cover, and it STILL KEEPS WORKING!!!
This unit has exceeded all of my expectations. If it died today I would go out an buy another Panasonic DVD player. I also have a Panasonic VCR and a Panasonic 27" TV.. all have worked very well.
The only weakness, is that it will not play most CD'rs. Probably because it was one of the first generation players. Only one has ever worked. I will try and see if it will play CDRW's. But that is it.

Strength:

Worked great for 17 months

Weakness:

too big to flush

I too have the same malady that eats our Panasonic cash. My new one will not be Panasonic. The vasoline trick will not work because the optical pickup does not slide down the rails upon inital start. It somehow *knows* their is no dvd (even though their is) without even moving the sensor.
I think the previous people just got lucky and the unit worked for a little while longer untill it went tango uniform.
Friends dont let friends buy Panasonic!!!!!
