I've owned this since March of 99. It was a floor model at CC and I bought it "open box" soon after I got my DD & DTS reciever. I wanted a digital source.

I have no complaints about it. I did experience some pixelization with the Matrix. This was a DVD that I had bought myself; after I wiped it down the trouble spot became normal.

Trying to navigate with the remote on some DVD's is awkward, but the cause may be more the DVD than the player.

Strength:

Everything...

Weakness:

...except the fact it was built to be disposable

I cannot warn prople enough to stay away from this unit. And judging by the way that Panasonic is ignoring these glaring problems, I encourage potential buyers to avoid the Panasonic brand altogether.

A $400 piece of equipment that begins to fail after 14 months of use!?! Is there a way to give negative stars?

Initial problems from new product

I thought Id write back to this board. I earlier reported serious pixilization problems that I had experienced for over a year. I took the unit to Circuit City recently for repair since I still had a ESA with them. My unit came back a few days later, but I couldnt tell if they had fixed the problem because they had introduced a new one -- it began to pause several times after the first 2-3 minutes of play, so after 10 minutes of this I decided they had given a brand new problem, so I took it back to CC for repair again -- indicating that the unit had not been tested after its first repair because this would have certainly been noticed. It came back a week later, and apparently they have fixed it, because I dont see the problem they had given me and I am also no longer experiencing the pixilization problems. So far. I tested it with the disk that had been giving me so much trouble in the past and it played fine. As long as the product stays healthy this is a fine DVD player. It gives out a great picture, and delivers excellent sound even though I dont have a receiver to channel it through. It definately pays to have the Extended Service Agreement from wherever you buy this product. I would have racked up almost 300.00 in repair bills otherwise. I paid an extra 40.00 for the 3-year plan when we bought this and it was well worth it. I just wish I had known what the problem really was a year ago, so I wouldnt have been suffering through all the pixilization all this time. I would have given this unit 5 stars, but Im taking one away for Panasonic shipping the product out this way to begin with.

I've had this machine a few months now and haven't had any problems at all. I am more than pleased with it so far. It hasn't missed a beat. I bought this as a discontinued item and paid less than $150.00 for it. I guess a lot of you are not as lucky.......

Has stopped working.

I agree wtih other reviwers. Not only is Panasonic A 110 piece of junk, the model A 310 is junk as well. I would not recommend anyone else buying their newer models either. Both these units have stppoed working. The frames freeze, skip and the whole thing just goes into a tizzey. The A310 was first to break followed by A 110. Panasonic would not honor out of warranty products, though out of warrany by mere 2 months by then. They did not seem to care about their reputation or reaction of their customers.

I am using one of them as CD player.

Strength:

Good Picture/Sound

Weakness:

Pixelation or no disc errors with Natural Born Killers and Braveheart.

I purchased the A120 almost one year ago and I am just starting to have trouble with it. I have two titles (Natural Born Killers & Braveheart) that play ok during the feature but fail at different parts while viewing the extras. I have tried these movies on other players and they play fine. The problem I have is either pixelation or no disc errors. I am testing out other titles but so far out of the 40+ I own the above mentioned two are the only movies that have this effect.

Strength:

Looked good on the circuit city shelf

Weakness:

lasted for 4 months, 90 day warrantee for labor

I purchased this unit in Feb 98 at circuit city. It worked well for the first four months. Then it started to scramble the screen ( pixellation ) and freeze up. I returned the unit to circuit city whom informed me that I would have to pay for all labor because it was past the warrantee. I felt this was ludicrous. Now maybe because I'm used to dealing with higher end audio companies that stand behind their products and provide great customer service, I felt they sold me a lemon, and it sould be fixed. Like many consumers I wasn't aware that Panasonics warrantee was only for one year on parts, 90 days on labor. Nor did the sales staff at ciruit city explain this to me when I purchased the unit. I spoke with several managers at circuit city to no avail. I contacted Panasonic and they also wouldn't budge on their policy.
Well I did the only thing I could think best to do,
I smashed the unit into pieces, put it in it's box, and shipped it back to panasonic. Then went to Tweeter Etc. and purchased a Sony DVD.
Don't be fooled by the likes of circuit city, panasonic, technics, or JVC. They are inferior companies that sell inferior products.
Unfortunately, I must give a star to this product because that is the smallest rating I can give it.

Umm, none to speak of

Weakness:

Don't get me started

OK, yes this unit, along with most Panasonic equipment is complete crap. Designed in junior high e-shop and farmed out to child labor, this stuff makes the CEO of Emerson shudder. But they got to market first...so...

Had the unit for 12 months with the same problems, studdering, pixelation, drifting, no audio, dropped signal, just a barrel of fun and enjoyment for the whole family. Wouldn't waste my time calling 'customer service' to 'fix' this since it was broken when it was built. So, here's a couple tips I've discovered in between the times I look for a real DVD player. Oh, I'm sure some of these would void the warranty (here, I pause, cause I'm laughing too hard) but if you're like me, you'll cut your losses.

1. Dust and smoke are to this unit (or any other) like railroad ties are to a Hugo on the expressway (the image is staggering). Clean up your house, dust everything, let the dust settle and then use an pressure air gun to lightly clean the dust out of the inside of the unit. I don't actually remove covers. Just kinda shoot it into the open door downward.

Oh, and remember the smoke. If you do smoke, I recommend taking it outside.

2. I have a tendency to clean the discs I rent and buy. That helps. Get some DI water and a soft, lint-less rag and work straight from the center out, not circular. Works for me.

3. Raise your hopes by shopping for another DVD player.

Enuf.

Weakness:

cant play dual-layer discs

This is a warning to all those looking for a DVD Player.
Stay away from Panasonic A110 it will fail. After 13 months my player is good for the junk yard. It is all true what others stated in thair reviews that this player is good for only a year.
