Just a follow up on my last review - received my Apollo 13 DTS DVD yesterday and the A110 performed without a hitch. DTS sure sounds a bit better than DD, but that is just my opinion. |

I have owned the Panasonic A110 since Dec 98. It has been sent to Panasonic Service Center twice(by mail). The technicians and manager have insisted that the unit has been repaired to the Manufacturer's "Specifications". The unit will not play certain dvds if it cannot meet the Manufactuer's "Specfications". BALONEY! Question, How do we the consumers, know which dvd discs meet the Manufacturer's "Specifications"? I also own a lowly RCA 5200 DVD Player which have played all of the movies in my collection without failure. True, the A100 has better video and audio characterics. This however, does not excuse Panasonic for selling a unit that does not meet the Consumer "Specifications"; in other words a Product with Outstanding Performance at a Great Value. Based on my research the Toshiba 2109 comes closest to meeting the needs of the consumer(with Price a Non-factor). Word of advice, purchase the extended warranties for your future dvd player(s), do your homework! DVD is a great format, however, NEW Technology does not mean Near-Perfect Technology. Let's hope the next generations of players meet the "Specifications" of the Consumer! |

Have had my A110 since mid Sept 98. ONlY ONCE did I have a Problem...pixelation and stopping...cleaned the disk and that took care of that! I inspect & usually clean every DVD or CD before playing! Reminds me of the good old days of the 50's,60's,70's, and early 80's when cleaned and often washed the the LP's BEFORE AND AFTER each use!!! I use my player 10 to 15 hrs per week...Fantastic but now what can I do with the 150 or so laser disks i hardly ever use???? |

I purchased a year-old used version of this player a few weeks ago (mostly because of the price and the assurance that it was tested and in working order) and was disappointed with a few things. First, it wouldn't seem to show the letterboxing on widescreen format discs and when I set the options under "setup" to display it correctly, it wouldn't save those options from power off to power on. Second, it would always display subtitles upon power on until I manually shut them off duing playback. Third, it seemed to think that every disc was a karaoke disc (as evidence by the "T" in the FL display). I took it back to the store and everything worked fine on a Sony Trinitron tv but showed the same problems on a Panasonic GAOO tv (the same as I have at home). Minor problems I know, but really annoying as they don't make any sense. I finally returned the unit and got myself a brand new A120 which has performed flawlessly. |

I've had my A110 about 10 months. I have one DVD that there is a 3/4 of a second pause in two areas of the movie...but that's it...and it's probably the DVD. I play both music and movies on it, and it is used about 4 times a week. At the time, I spent about 2 hours in a A/V store switching between different brand DVD players...all using the same TV. I thought the A110 had the best picture for under $700.00. Since the rest of my system is Sony, (Satilite, Receiver, VCR, TV, CD), it was a big step for me to purchase the Panasonic...but I'm very happy with it. |

I purchased the Panasonic A110U in November of 1998. I was pleased with it until a couple of days ago when I ran into the "NO DISC" error. The player locked up in the midst of playing a disc and will no longer play any discs. This seems to be a reported problem with several Panasonic models. I would have to say that if you buy a Panasonic DVD player get the extended warantee as you will probably need it. |

Strength:
Great sound and picture Had this player since Christmas '98 and have had no problems described in this site. With my 8-yr old Sony Trinitron and Sony STR-DE835, movies come to life. I shook the walls of my house while watching "Air Force One". That's how great the sound is. Picture is also great. Only complaint-the on-board display should have more features, like time remaining on track/chapter, time remaining on disc, etc. |

Strength:
Affordability, good performance
Weakness:
Poor remote control layout, lack of time display and jump-to features Overall, I've been happy with the purchase. I've heard of other people having problems, though. I've encountered occasional minor pixelation in certain movies for a second or two. I've also encountered random lockups playing movies in Video CD format. |

Strength:
Excellent video and audio quality
Weakness:
Will on rare occasions skip a chapter on a layer switch (had this happen ONE time in a year) Simple little unit, has worked reliably for well over a year. I've had none of the problems others complain about, except skipping a chapter on a layer switch (this has happened ONE time in over a year of use, through many many viewings).
