Strength:

It plays CDs, DVDs, VCDs, and SVCDs. That's about all it can do, but that's about all I want it to do.

Weakness:

It freezes when you try to rewind and/or fast forward it occasionally. But I mean, what can you expect for $100?

Yeah, its buggy. Sometimes it doesn't work. But It does what I paid for it to do- Watch movies with it on a TV. Sometimes it has some trouble watching stuff, but it doesn't freeze when its just playing, only when its paused for too long, or its trying to rewind or fastforward. And I've never encountered a problem that I couldn't fix within five minutes.

Strength:

At least it works for the first month

Weakness:

Total POS!

This piece of crap is as bad as everyone says it is. It worked for maybe the first month or so then it went downhill from there. Can't read CDs ("wrong or bad disk"), can't read DVDs ("wrong or bad disk") and if by some miracle of GOD it actually starts to play - wait 20 minutes and it's frozen in place. Remind me why I purchased a CD/DVD player - because I thought it was to PLAY CDs and DVDs - stupid me...

No help from the manufacturer either. Aparently they put them out on the market, made what they could from suckers like us and bolted...

Strength:

Price was good. Picture clear.

Weakness:

Everything.

I brought this product last year 2000 on Black Friday, thinking I was getting a real deal for $99.00. I got a deal alright. About 5 months it was fine, just now I have had all kinds of problems, skipping, disc getting stuck, It continue to say disc is reading taking for every to play, the lastest problem I have been having is now it will not even play a movie. My son was unplugging it off and on, and it still is not working. My sister purchased the same exact one, and she has had tons of problems, so she has now purchased a surround system, costing $900.00 and she received a free DVD with that, and she is well pleased with her Sony System. I guess I will now have to purchase a more expensive DVD now. I was always told you get what you pay for. But I thank God that I will be able to purchase a new system soon. I really would not recommend this product to anyone. If maybe I would have read these reviews, before I purchased this it could have saved me money, and I would have purchased a better brand.

Thanks
Julie

Strength:

NONE-would be a nice unit if it worked.

Weakness:

everything- A complete piece of crap

I bought this "dvd player" 5 days ago at best buy because it was cheap and I needed a small player for my bedroom. I knew this was a crappy brand but I figured what the hell.

Tried to play Croutching Tiger last night and the player just froze. I cou'ld even eject the disc. I had to unplug the unit and then plug it back in before I could eject the disc. For the 5 minutes that it did play I heard sharp crackling sounds coming from the unit. What a piece of crap. This is not even worth $9.99 much less $89.00. This has absolutely no value at all!!. They need to recall all these units. I've sent a letter to Consumer Reports asking them to look into this issue.

I taking this pile of horse manure back to Best Buy today. I'm just glad this happened now rather than later. Please dont waste your time with this. You WILL be sorry.

Weakness:

Construction, Quality, Durability, Features

I purchased this unit at Circuit City in 2/2000, as my initial foray into DVD. I was going to go $200+, and get an inexpensive brand name player, but I saw a "professional" review lauding the quality of the Oritron, so I decide to take a shot.

After approximately a month, the audio starting dropping to almost silent levels, causing me to turn my TV all the way up just to be able to barely hear it. I had to take off the back off the unit and play with the audio jacks (guessing it was a poor connection) to get the audio back up to snuff. I had to do this periodically, as the sound would continue it's random fades.

A few months later, the on-screen indicators (menu highlights) would not be displayed properly. The movie itself would be displayed, but the highlights around the menu options would be either incomplete, not centered, or just not there.

Overall, this player was a HUGE letdown. I expect more than a month of worry free performance out of a brand new player, and it is now useless after less than a year of use.

I cannot stress enough to avoid this player. Spend a few more bucks, and get a durable, quality player with a few features.

Weakness:

Worthless peice of junk

I have had many of the same problems that have been reported here by others. The problems I have personally experienced are as follows:
1. Diminished sound - the sound is so quiet, I have to crank my TV or stereo all the way up just to hear it.
2. Enhanced DVD menu items not highlighted - after playing about two DVDs, the DVD's menu items stopped being hightlighted, even on DVDs I had previously played.
3. Endless loop/can't open door - I put in Disney's "Dinosaur" and it said "Reading DVD" forever. When I tried to stop it, it would not stop. I tried to open the door, it would not open. I tried to turn it off, it would not turn off. I finally had to take the cover off the chasis just to get my DVD out.

I am interested to know if there is any class-action suit against the manufacturer. I received this as a gift from someone in Michigan, but no one will take it back - so I'm stuck.

Strength:

Low price to match low quality

Weakness:

Confusing instructions, no service contact number, won't play parentally locked DVD's at any setting, remote won't always work, won't turn off if player has problems.

DO NOT BUY THIS DVD PLAYER!!

I was so impressed when I saw the advertised price on this machine that I went out and bought two of them, one for myself and one for a friend. BIG mistake. The instructions provided were very confusing, and the unit I tried to hook up did not work at all. At first I thought it was me, but it turned out to be the unit that didn't work. So I took it back and got an even exchange, and hooked it up...and it seemed to work ok. At least for the first movie we tried. The next DVD we tried to put in had a dread PARENTAL LOCK on it which the machine did not recognize and no matter HOW we changed the settings, we couldn't play the DVD! To make matters worse, the parental lock trapped the machine in an endless loop that no amount of button pushing could fix...not even the main power button on the machine would turn it off! We had to unplug it several times before we finally got it to work again...and then we had trouble removing the disc from the machine! At first I thought our machine had broken again, but when we tried it in our friends machine, it locked up the same way...and they had worse trouble...they had to manually pry the disc door open to get the disc out, which of course completely ruined the machine. Take my advice and don't waste your money on this piece of junk...invest a little more and get a better player...one which actually recognizes parental lock and will let you play the DVD's you want. Maybe this DVD player is good if you want to play PG or G rated movies only, but R movies...sorry, no dice. And if you don't listen and buy it anyway, make SURE you plug it into a place where you don't have to dig around too much to unplug it if you need to..it will only add to the frustration. Oh and by the way...there was absolutely no service address or phone number included in the instruction booklet, or who to contact if you had trouble. Geeeeee I wonder why?

Strength:

It hasen't started on fire yet?

Weakness:

only when your playing music or dvd.

This is the second one. The first one I brought back to Wal Mart when the picture started distorting half way through a movie.I assumed that it was just a defect in this particular system.I should have taken my money back and bought a case of beer, because months later the second one does the same thing. It has a free upgrade at their web sight that I still have not recieved. Apparently they send you a cd that you insert sort of like a flash rom.Would be nice if there were audio optical outlet or even s-video.All in All it should make a good boat anchor.

it broke, worst product you could buy

This is the worst product i have ever bought. I was having my entire family over to my new house to watch movies on my new 2" big screen for thanks giving. So i bought a dvd player to make the experiance better. Wrong!!!

It played the first movie just fine but when i put the second one in it would get these fuzzy blocks on the screen
at first i thought it was the movie so I put the other movie we had just watched back in and it did the same thing.

I took it back to best buy and they refunded my money and went and bought a GE model and have had no problem with this unit.

Strength:

Play ALL zones DVDs and VCDs with one-time setup

Weakness:

Remote responds poorly, cannot play CDR.

A cheap All-Zone DVD/VCD player.
A bit noisy while playing.
The only DVD that I have problems with is
"3 tenors in 1994" - video and audio are not in sync.

Otherwise, I am okay with this product.
