Strength:

Nice looking unit. Pretty good remote.

Weakness:

Many. Slow to load and skipping around tracks. No coxial connection. Unreliable.

I wish I could get my money back on this one. In less than a year I started having the same problems as others discussed in previous posts. Picture breaks up, hangs up machine. Won't play CD's after a DVD, etc. Have to power off and let the unit get cold before it will work correctly again. It seems to work fine for about an hour then goes haywire and is very unreliable. I'll be pulling it out to take back to the store soon. Hoping for refund or at least a new replacement. For the money spent, I've been very dissappointed. I do have the AV-10 Reciever and it's killer. Just wish the DVD player were as good.

Strength:

Video and Sound quality is very good

Weakness:

The zoom is the worst function I have seen among the DVD players available in my city, The images are totally full of pixels. Besides that, there is a big window showing the zoom function is turned on.

DVDs Takes time for reading the CD's or DVD's
Every body complains about this.
The zoom is really bad, I definitely would not buy this DVD if I would know in advance about this issue.
Its mechanism is silent which is very good if you are listening to classical music.

Strength:

Looks slick with the gold finish

Weakness:

Not sure where to begin - After 6 months of use, stopped playing DVDs, only plays VCDs. This is my second player though. The first player conked out in 2 months. This lasted 6. Super improvement!!

I am so angry with Nakamichi as a company. I tried contacting them in the USA and Japan. I did not get a response back from my e-mail. I tried four more time with no resposne whatsoever. Ultimately I threatened to expose my experience with them and the player on the Internet forums. I got a call from them within 2 hours after sending that e-mail. Can u beleive these guys? They keep on ignoring you until you threaten them. They did not help me one bit and refused to refund my money. A guy called Ray Fukunaga from USA office calls me up at 2:00 am Sydney time, abuses me threatens me if cause more problems by sending them e-mail. I could not believe it. I was considering taking legal action on the company. But I will tell you one thing - Stay away from any of their products. That company sucks!!

The Pioneer DV333 on the other hand is an extremely good product. Plays just about anything u throw at it. Their post sales service too is of the highest quality. The gusys from Nakamichi should learn something from them.

Strength:

Simple Design. Good when it works!

Weakness:

Takes ages to read disc, which very often it dosn't !
Freeze ups on DVD / Cds go crazy

Great looking machine, but yes i takes ages to read a disc and very often just rejects them altogther.

After playing Cds for about an hour the machine freezes and refuses to play or read new discs so you need to turn of the power for 5 minutes whilst it has a little rest.
After this it will be okay for a while but all to often it will start to be highly selective it what it will allow me to listen to.
Many a DVD has frozen and started to Pixelate, again usualy about an hour into the movie.

Very disapointed indeed especialy as i can see that these problems are common place

it will be intersesting to see what Naks response will be !

I have my DVD-10 from new, a little bit over 13 months old now. About 3 weeks ago, it refused to play DVD any more but still works fine with CD & VCD.

I sent an email to Nakamichi in Japan to say out my sadness, till now there is still no respond. At the same time I sent another email to Nakamichi in USA to ask for the model code of the laser head, no luck.

I did not ask for replacement or else as it becoame faulty after 12 months.

Nakamichi, a brand name without correspondence.

if your looking for a dvd player that sounds better than most dvd's or cd players this is the one! i have tried jvc, toshiba, pioneer and panasonic none of witch could even come close to the sound im getting out of my NAK dvd10. I also own a NAKAMICHI av10 reciever BUT WHEN I BOUGHT THE AV10 NAK DIDNT MAKE A DVD PLAYER YET, SO I TRIED ALL THE ABOVE DVD'S AND RETURNED THEM AFTER BEING DISAPPOINTED WITH THE SOUND QUALITY. EVEN THE PLAYERS THAT I THOUGHT HAD GREAT VIDEO COULDNT COME CLOSE TO MEETING THE SOUND QUALITY I WAS LOOKING FOR. THE PICTURE IS JUST AS AMAZING AS THE SOUND. DEMO ONE YOU WILL LOVE IT.

In response to an earlier post, Checked out the NAK-DVD10 at Fred's sound of music in Portland, OR. Picture quality and Sound was very impressive, incidentally own the NAK AV10 reciever purchased at the same place. Shockingly there was this metallic clicking noise unusually high on the nak dvd10 when it starts play. They brought out three units and all behaved the same. The sales rep half heartedly admitted that they had contacted Nak on this already and NAK had reported that problem is being fixed. Should say, rather disappointed, wanted to wait till the new units come in. However, ended up buying the Marantz DVD930 from Chelsea Audio in Portland Oregon for $800. Good picture and sound.DTS is nice and has component out, real nice machine and looks very sleek, slick and sharp. Worth checking it out. Must say, half hearted 4 stars for the NAK as it deserves 5 for the picture and sound if it were not for the mechanical noise which I heard has been fixed now but haven't had the time to check

Video and Sound Quality = Outstanding!

This Nakamichi DV10 is, by far, outstanding. I am surprised how this fine machine fires out great video output as well as the sound with its built in decoder. Though the price tag of $799 retail, this is one machine that is worth every single penny, period. I completed my HT setup with this dvd player because it compliments my Nakamichi AV 7. Hands down again for Nakamichi. Overall, outstanding!

Strength:

Weakness:

rgb output in combination with my Loewe TV

This machine is superb ! Just some artefacts which I am sure I can eliminate (greenish band on top part of the screen when in RGB mode)...

I picked it up this week for 500$ (incl taxes), zone free, full waranty... even got a coaxial cable with is...

Bought Interview with the vampire... and its unbelievable, the audio quality is even amazing !
