Strength:
I thought remote was OK, built in DD decoder worked well.
Weakness:
Developed more and more problems Got the JVC 701 for Christmas (girlfriend paid $425 from QVC, I can get it closer to $325) and it worked great for a while. I hooked up a new JVC receiver and Bose speakers to the built-in decoder and the sound was great. The remote that I've read the complaints about wasn't that bad to me, even worked the JVC receiver nicely. Then the player started freezing and skipping after about 2 months. It was getting worse and resetting it per JVC's instructions made no difference. I found out why QVC can be a good source because they took it back even though it was beyond their 30 day return policy. I'd say overall that my experience with the 701 would have been a good one if it had just held together. But with the situation as it is, I'd look elsewhere for a quality player. RELIABILITY In March, 1999 I purchased two JVC’s XV-D701 DVD Players from Crutchfield. Before that day I had a Pionneer 414 DVD Player. I sold the Pionneer to a friend when I got the XV-D701’s and it is still working perfectly well. Similar Products Used: Pionneer 414 |

Strength:
Excellent picture and sound. No pixelization or disk incompatibility problems.
Weakness:
Joystick remote difficult to use. Reliability questionable. Overall, an excellent player. One of the best pictures for a player in this price range. My only complaint is that my unit ceased functioning (No Disk error for all DVDs) after 6 weeks of use and since it could not be serviced locally, I had to send it to the JVC Service center in Los Angeles for warranty service. About 5 weeks later the unit was returned with a new optical pickup and it has worked perfectly for the past 3 months. Similar Products Used: None |

Received brand new DVD player from UBID.COM for $401.00. This DVD player has all the features of the more expensive players, Component video, Dolby Digital decoder built in, 5.1 analog outputs, optical and coaxial digital outputs just to name a few. Love the "zoom" function, menus are easy to navigate, and the sound and picture are excellent. Have been watching movies on JVC SVHS 7500 VCR and this DVD player has to be at least 10 times better in audio and video. |

Strength:
5.1 processing, DTS, and visual imaging
Weakness:
somewhat of a cheap remote Unlike the rest of the unhappy JVC 701 users. I have not experienced the problems everyone is stating. Maybe I just have the good one. Or maybe they have fixed thee problem on the "newer" 701's. I have been very happy with the DVD player. Similar Products Used: sony and JVC 501 |

Strength:
Three component video outputs
Weakness:
I keep getting error messages and having to reset the unit When I first bought the player it worked great. Then I tried playing Cruel Intentions and the machine crashed. I traded it in thinking it was the unit. Then the second one I got crashed. I called JVC and they asked me if I played the movie Cruel Intentions when it crashed. I said yes and the told me how to reset the unit to the factory presets. Why they don't just put it in the manual, I don't know. Now I keep having to reset the unit often. I wish I could get rid of this DVD player and get a better one. This unit cost too much for it to keep breaking. JVC makes great TV and VCR's but I recommend that you stay away from the DVD players. Yes, that means even if you want to keep all your electronics the same brand... DON'T BUY IT! Similar Products Used: First DVD player |

Strength:
Nothing out of the ordinary
Weakness:
Starts skipping when runs hot. can't play T2 thetrical version because of constant chapter jumping. Can't play The Matrix. Seems to have some problems with dual later DVDs Well, after only 1 month, I'm trading it for the 721. If the 721 does the same thing, I'm buying non-JVC. Really disappointed Similar Products Used: None |
