Strength:

Build quality. All regions. Good on screen menu. Overall performance

Weakness:

Remote sensor on the master unit

I wanted to buy a top quality machine to play DVD's from all regions. Thats exactly what I got & more with the DVD 1. After the problems with the 2 Sony units the DVD1 is excellent. Now that I have owned it I would not hesitate to pay up to $1800 for the unit. It made the Sony machines look ridiculous. Because of the DVD1 I have restructured my whole home entertainment system. The sound quality is second to none. I use a H/K 7000 linked by fiber optic. Tannoy MX2 x 2, MX3 X 2, MXC & Sub, family of speakers & Cyrus Mono Blocks. It is the best sounding system that I have ever setup.

Strength:

All sones, cheap, cristalclear sound, pics

Weakness:

Dosent play cd-r

Sorry about the earlier massage i sent, something has happend there, tis is a hell of a good player, The H/K dvd is the best DVD player to day at that price. The Pics and sound are incredibale, and how easy it is tho change sones are just nice. It comes this way from the dealer so you don't have to go into the palyer and do things to it (like putt in a chip or cut over i wire). I just say I'm sorry aboute the last post it was wrong to just give 2 stars, I dont know what happend, I hope this will make it Right.

Strength:

Cheap, region-free(remote), good lookin' , picture and sound

Weakness:

remote-sensor on the unit(even with new batteries), not too many features. Made in China(not sure it holds the same quality as Japanese products)

Extremely cheap and good dvd-player who anyone should consider buying if you're only going to watch movies and possibly use as a cd-player. Not many extra features on this player, but since it's region free(keypresses on remote), what more could you really want it does the business and that's that. It's price may be very different from country to country, and it's especially expensive in the UK ($800). If that's the case I would suggest you might find cheaper players, but not better!!

Strength:

Picture quality, Sound (optical and coax)

Weakness:

Slight whining noise when playing

Picture quality and sound synch. weren't as smooth as i had hoped with my PC (Celeron 466 - SB live, Matrox G400, Pioneer 6x scsi dvd rom) so i bought the HK DVD1.

The main reason i've bought this model is because i already owned the AVR 65 receiver (hooked up to a set of mission 700 series speakers) and the FL 8550 cd changer. Looking at the price of other brands/models this one had a reasonable pricetag (+/- $ 450)(Still don't get why audio equipment has to be so much more expensive over here).

After hooking it up to my home system i was amazed by the clarity of the picture and, of course, the sound. Finally no more loosing sync after pausing or fast forwarding. The setup was smooth (only had to adjust the aspect ratio to 4:3). It plays region 1 and 2 discs perfectly.

Recently bought a new TV set (a Sony 32FX60 100Hz widescreen) and found my 14 year old old Nokia 28" didn't do this player justice. This combination totaly blows away everybody who comes over to watch a movie.

Still there are some things i'd like to see changed: The green illuminated buttons don't match with the other HK components (Too bad they don't fade along with the display by using the dimmer function). The same goes for the remote control (looks and feels cheap) and the shiny front of the machine. Also i'd like to have had the option of upgrading the player as HK did with the signature series to support future DVD formats.

Despite these minor points, buying another player never crossed my mind.
