dosent play cd-r

This is a cheap and good dvd player that has the clearest pic and best sound, combined with H/K AVR 7000 This is a killer in a home theather. In norways best HiFi magazine, it was rated the best bay of all the dvd players, (Lyd Og Bilde, Sound and Picture). Sound 10 out of 10, Pic The same, and other stuff as price and function 10 out of 10.

Can't play my cd-rs!!!

I use this one with my H/K avr300 and it makes the system feel complete wich I like. However I was a bit disapointed when it didn't play my cdrs but I've heard that many dvds dont do this so my old cdplayer will do, at least for some time.

The picture is perfect when i'm watching movies, even though my TV sucks (21' Samsung).

The sound, witch is the that differs the most between dvd-players, is as far as I can hear very good. It's cristyl clear and I cant hear any weaknesses. Much better then my old cdplayer (Pioneer)!

I'm very pleased with my player and I can recommend it to anyone who like H/Ks products. However, I dont think I would have bought it if I didn't had the avr300 to begin with. I also got a good price for it.

But I don't think that anyone will be disapointed with this baby.

And, the reg-changing procedure i cool, using "pi" (3,141592) and then the reg-code!

Drawer sticks when gets hot after feature length movie!

Great sounding machine with a great design. My Cd's have never sounded better! I was previously using a 10 year old Mission which now sounds like it's ancient. Great investment!

It is annoying to have to input a multi region code but better than having to pay for the privledge of having it modified!

I use it through a Loewe TV which gives a great picture usually however I find that with different films I need to change the TV tuning to different PAL settings which seems strange. I have e-mailed HK so await their explanation!

Overall I am happy bit regret not spending more time reviewing products using this web site - only just found it - and I am now keen to audition the Loewe DVD which has had good reviews in the UK as it will match the excellent TV!

This unit is one hell of a upgrade from my LG DVD Player. The picture clarity is awesome! I am using this unit in conjunction with a HK AVR310/4000 and boy oh boy, does this combination make home theater alive! On the music front does the DVD 1 an excellent job - even dedicated audiophile will not be disappointed here.
I believe the DVD 1 is HK's first attempt to the DVD arena; HK, 10 out of 10 for the DVD 1!!!

Clear and crisp picture, good sound

Problems with the drawer

Thougth I am still using it without an AV receiver it has changed my old Panasonic TV into something else. The picture is really good and the sound perfect. The sound quality decreases a little when using it as CD player.
I have experienced a problem with the drawer, infact at the beginning it was not opening properly, sometimes it was just just blocked and I had to push the open button again and again. It was just at the beginning and got solved by itself. Now it is about 2 months I don't have troubles anymore.
Think it is a very good product, surely worth the price.

It looks great. The performance has been brilliant. Can't say I have had the problem with the noise during play and I do sit very close to it.

The darn power supply - The first one I bought got the standby orange light, but no green light. That went back. Now, after 6 months, the exchanged one, now has the same problem.

When it works it is great, but pretty miffed at the moment!! I will be worried when the thing is out of warranty.

at this price this is probably one of the best products around, mine claims to be ablt to play CD Audio compatible CD-Rs but I have not been able to check that yet.

Otherwise I do recommend it, it worked like a treat right from scratch.

Whining noise when playing.

At first, when I got my DVD player, I was extremely satisfied. It sounded just great, and watching a movie was stunning, with amazing sound/picture quality. The player looks darn good as well. Although today something happened. I was listening to music, when the phone rang. I pushed the "open" button on the remote control, so that I would be able to hear anything while talking to my girlfriend on the phone. When I got back to continue my listening, the sleigh wouldn't close. I tried pushing the open/close button on the unit itself, but that didn't work either. I put a CD in the sleigh and pushed it in with raw force, just to see if it could still play records. No luck there, the display said "reading", and that's normal, but when it had kept on for a minute or so, I had a sneaking suspicion that something was wrong. It couldn't even play records anymore!

Anyway, I suppose that it's just bad luck, but anyhow a player from such an accredited company as Harman/Kardon shouldn't just quit like this.
Note that I'm giving it good ratings anyway, the missing star is for the whining noise when playing CD's and DVD's.
I can't hear it when I listen to CD's, but when you're watching a movie, the sound can actually be quite disturbing.
