I was looking at reviews for some time and previous experience with Sennheiser biased me a little towards these headphones. Let's be clear though, these are sit-at-home-and-not-bug-the-neighbours type of products. They leak sound yes - so the person in the other room may well still hear them, but the point of these is to offer respectable sound quality without shaking the glasses off the shelf however entertaining the prospect may be.

I chose these because the next model up is only done justice if it has a headphone amplifier. I wanted a solution that could be plugged into a laptop and thus far I have been delighted with its sound quality.

These units do require a fairly long "break-in" time so users may initially be a little disappointed but persevere and you will find that they become much more supple later on.

If you are in the market for headphones in this price range and you are looking to use them around the house then I cannot recommend these highly enough.

Strength:

BRIGHT SOUND :X
Long cord
Loud [though its 50 ohms, they are much louder than ones with 20 ohms]
Clear + true sound
Detailed frequency response
Quality build
Looks really nice
Cool accesory included [headphone holder]
oh, and i almost forgot, very comfortable ,-

Everything I could ask from a home use headphone

Weakness:

sound leaking in/out [not a nuisance for me]
not suitable outdoors
not suitable for some portable players [on my N95 they sound pretty awesome]
a bit expensive - but if you want to hear music as it is MEANT to be heard - every dime spent on these is totally worth it...

only one person can use them at a time :))

Firslty I have to thank this website - I bought these headphones after about 2-3 weeks of searching review sites like this, I have to mention that these are my first hi-fi grade headphones.
The best word to describe these headphones is BRIGHT , the sound is really bright, some of you said that it doesn't have a "punchy bass" , I trully think that this is beacause these headphones do not artificially modify original sound (personally i think the bass does not need any improvement). My previous ones had such a punchy bass, that i could feel my eardrum tremble, but it didn't sound like it was loud (+ everything i was hearing had a shift toward the lows) , the HD595 have a bass just as it was designed to be in the recording studio.
In regards of the headphone amp, I can tell you that if you use them at a computer you will have no need for one [winamp - 50 % windows 50 % and they sound very loud, I mean VERY LOUD] . I have tested these with portable mp3 players, and to tell the truth, its no good, portable players can power these , but something is wrong, the sound is like ... restricted to certain frequencies , the bass really dies, so does the highs , only the mids are heard , anyway i don't think that these headphones were designed to be portable simply because they are open. * my n95 phone, strangely enough does not have any problems with these...
Because I sincerely bought these for gaming - music was second priority - I have to say they are more precise - but you have to get used to the different sound [at least 2 days] , everything sounds different and to be honest in gaming with no "punchy" bass from the weapon sound /etc it was a real strage feeling like - oh, that was how it was supposed to sound :) .
With other headphones , after about 4-5 hours of listening at a slightly louder volume , some mid to high notes kind of scratched my ears, and I had to stop the music or change the track because I couldn't stand it. With the HD595 , I had no problem with any notes, even very loud highs don't discomfort me in any way.
Related to burn-in , there was no difference noticed - probably my ears aren't used to such high definition sound :)
For all of you that changed more than 5-6 pairs of headphones because of cable damage / crakling / didn't like the way it sounded or just want a high definition pair of headphones - I highly recommend these... I'm just sorry that I wasted so much time hearing junk sound.... I should have bought these sooner :X :))

sorry for my english

Strength:

Clean sound.
Moderately high sensitivity.
Highly Comfortable! - BIG plus for long listeners.
Audibly Durable!
The plastic housing and adjusters are still functional after being dropped a few times and with regular long term use. This seems to be a problem with a few other 'phones...

Weakness:

Plastic housing makes noise when shifting positions
cable connection at headphone makes a little noise when forces from the cord travel to the location and are dissipated there.

These are my 'phones. They're what I use while I sit at my computer. And I sit here a lot.
I've had these for at least three years. They were purchased shortly after the product was first sold. They've been driven with and without amplification in addition to the output on my audigy or Xfi sound cards, which put out a considerable amount of power.
My HD-600's and HD-590's both pooped on me. I blew them out. They both developed loose, farting sound in one ear. I refuse to not try to go deaf. Heh.

Last night, I left my computer running.
My computer froze, apparently.
I thought the fire alarm might be going off again, as my girlfriend and I both woke up at 2 AM to to a rather piercing (admittedly not as piercing as the old, removed, fire alarms) sound.

I left the bedroom to investigate the noise, and after a minute, pinpointed the source of the sound.
Amazingly, my ears lead me to the headphones. As my head got about a foot away from the headphones, the sound literally hurt my ears. It HURT MY EARS it was so loud.
I'm not sure what happened, but perhaps the soundcard, which was apparently not screwed into the PCI slot, may have come loose and froze my computer and caused this weird audio anomaly.

I'm testing them on a FLAC file of Infected Mushroom's "Vicious Delicious" album, and they're still apparently performing wonderfully! *tear*

In summary, this is the most durable pair of headphone drivers I've had, except for a painful pair of sony mdr700's, which I no longer own anyway.

Strength:

Excellent reresentation of sound.

Weakness:

None, for people serious about audio.

An excellent set of headphones that are hugely deatailed and accurate. However, for those who insist on listening to MP3s with them (awful format) it wont enhance listening experience as greatly as the more educated audio enthusiasts who stick to higher quality audio formats. After all, no matter how much you spend on headphones, speakers etc, the end product can only be as good as the source and if this happens to be an MP3 well, you get the idea.

Strength:

Reflects what the electronics are sending very accurately and honestly.
Sensitive, ultra-responsive, produces enough deep bass, tons of ambiance, beautiful MF and HF's, perfect focus and illusions of instruments from top bottom front back left right from each ear. Probably from the tilted speaker technology.
Single cord on one side that is detachable
Easy servicing and repairs in the future
Doesn't require an amp

Weakness:

These are open headphones that leaking out alot of music from up to 20 feet away as moderate volumes. Other people will be disturbed gauranteed. If the sided are covered when lying down the sound reflects back in causing distortions or echoes.
-Can't be used in a quiet room and outside noises leak in very easily.
-Very slightly grainy or distortioned on louder volume passages, imho.
-Bass is slightly less in the lower registers than the HD600 but matching otherwise
-Wire is OFC but can be improved further for even clearer presentation.

HD-595 after a long breaking of 60-80 hours does settle down nicely. They are very clear, detailed, smooth, accurate not over or under emphasizing, responsive to the lightest ambiance, more front row forward than others ie HD580, HD600, just the tiniest hint of grain on the most critical listening CD's. This headphone is extremely comfortable for long listening sessions. They respond even better with high end electronics or a good preamp. They are very sensitive enough for use with just a portable DVD player as well just a little less clear or responsive in all ranges of frequencies as it should with low-end electronics. I am happy with the performance and flexibility.

You do get very slightly more detail and lower register bass from the hd600 from the one I sampled but I didn't like the distance presentation. The HD580 was less detailed, clear and too distant in presentation for my liking also. I couldn't use a hd580 or hd600 on portable players. Sample many before you buy to ensure you get the type of headphone you can live with.

Strength:

comfort, brilliant sound.

Weakness:

Now i can never go back to cheap or even decent headphones, whilst this is a good thing for my enjoyment it is not a good thing for my wallet.

I got this headphone because my old sennheiser 555 broke, and headphone.com recommended them. And I can honestly say these are much much much better than the hd 555 model, and totally worth the money. Not only does the music sound incredable but in game sounds such as footsteps and gun fire are very accurate. I play counter-strike where these are very important, so I know what I'm talking about. If
your willing to go over 100€ or 120$ for headphones, look no further for these should be your next headphones.

Strength:

Clear, in depth sound

Weakness:

Weak bass

Before I bought my HD 595s I used crappy sony portable headphones for my mp3 player, and i needed to upgrade to a surroundsound style headphone for competitive gaming. after looking for a while i came across a fairly reasonable price for them and bought them. when i first used them i noticed how clear the sound was. playing Halo 2 with these made everthing happening in the game possible to hear, from every direction. almost everything seemed right untill i plugged them into my mp3 player and there was a huge drop in power due to the abcense of an amp and that they didnt respond too well to bass in hip-hop rap styled songs. after screwing around with the equalizers a bit on my mp3 player, i found that this was no longer a problem. they are also quite comfortable, great for long sessions, the only downside is that your ears may get a little warm for wearing them for an extended period of time. overall great headphones, if i had to pay the msrp for them i definatly would, they are worth it.

Strength:

* clear mid range
* bright but not sharp treble
* deep and clean bass
* ultra-responsive
* doesn't require an amp

Weakness:

* solo use only, I can't share the joy of watching a movie using these w/ friends

First, be reminded that these are open headphones (you can still hear background noises).

HD-595 is very responsive in all ranges especially mid range and treble. Mid range is very clear. Treble is not ear-cutting sharp. I am very satisfied with the performance. The first impression was definitely a loud WOW!
(I just wish I didn't have trouble with the delivery, but that's another story)

For bass enthusiasts, HD-595 may be a bit weak on the bass response. But it's nothing that EQ settings cannot correct for you. Bass is deep but not muddy. I'm no audiophile, so I can't speak for the advanced listeners. But so far, every one of my friends who's tried these on were amazed by its performance.

HD-595 is very responsive (very loud). It's probably the best pair of headphones that doesn't require an amp. I didn't give 5 stars for value rating because these are a bit pricey. But gosh... they were worth every single penny!

Strength:

Sound quality, comfort.

Weakness:

I have heard complaints about the way Sennheiser connects the wire to the actual headphone. It is said to be brokne rather easilty. I can see how that might happen - so I am careful.

The Sennheiser HD595 are extremely comfortable. The sound is excellent. I use them when I am working on computer in home design studio. I can wear for hours without any difficulty ...since they are open air - I can hear noises and my wife calling me.

I would recommend these as replacements form people who listen to iTunes whilst working, as well as poeple who just want excellent reporoduction and extreme comfort. No more sweaty ears!

Customer Service
