I got this CD changer a month ago, generally the product is good. It has somenice features and it performs well for me. This will be even better if
these following features are included in this product : The ability to power it
off using the remote control, swapping of disc quietly, not blocking the infrared signal of the remote control when the disc tray is open.

...but besides the lack of those features, the CDC 655 still performs well.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this purchase! For the very reasonable price, the sound of the unit (Yamaha calls it "Natural Sound") is quite good - much less harsh than some other units in this price range. The ergonomics are not up to the quality of the rest of the unit, however, as the tray covers the direct disc access buttons when open and the unit cannot be turned on/off with the remote. It's also quite deep (about 2" more than a HK, Sony or Denon unit I believe), and the tray rotation is noisy.

Strength:

play while swapping out discs

Weakness:

loud when changing from disc to disc

Overall, I'm pleased with this CD players performance. It has had no mechanical problems and plays everything (even moderately scratched discs) with no errors. My only complaint is that it is loud when switching discs internally.

good sounding playerVERY noisy while changing discs
2 major problems:
1) after 3 weeks, computer became "confused", would not play discs
2) door mount cracked, Yamaha would not fix it for free, saying that
I had damaged it,

Will never buy another Yamaha product.

This CD player lacks any real "living" sound. My ears hurt after about half an hour of listening. The ringing is unbearable. If you turn it up, you get one big mass of noise. This unit made me want to ditch all my CD's and dig out my record collection. Instead I'll spend more cash and get a real CD player.

CD Changer: The Yamaha cd755 is a very bright (Yamaha calls natural sounding) player. If you have bright speakers, don't use this player as I have to agree with Ron Jones from Seatle that it can drive you out of the listening room, & hurt your ears even at moderate listening levels. I had this player for a year & gave it to a friend. I now use CAL Icon MK II player & happy with it.

The older model is very noisy when opening and changing, and I have had to have it repaired 3 times for a different problem each time. The newer model has fixed the noise problem, and so far has no other problems that I have seen. They sound pretty good, and for the money, you can't get much better.

My CDC665 is about 4 months old now and I like it alot. I bought it to replace an old Technics single disc player. After a few hours of listening to the new unit I decided to hook it up directly to my AudioSource Amp One amps which I have bridged. The sound opened up alot. Thru the preamp the sound was too dull for my taste. The unit apparently has a filtering circuit in it. They call it "natural sound" but don't describe what it's all about in the manual. I like being able to put 5 disks in and forget about it. So far no mechnical problems.

i'm a college student, music major. i bought a yamaha cd player and loved it. lots of nice features, clean lines. one week after the warranty ran out (no joke), the spindle motor stopped working. i was told i'd have to shell out about $150 for a new one - nearly 1/2 as much as the component itself. i couldn't do it. if i'm going to spend $300 on a cd player, i expect it to work much longer than a year before something breaks down. doing a little checking myself, i realized that yamaha doesn't have the cleanest track record for reliability. i wish i would have done this before buying one. i will never, ever buy another yamaha product again. for those of you who have one now, beware and be ready.

Nice stero, but I've had a few problems. The motor to turn the cd broke just after warranty and now when I play some songs it will just skip through them. The cd's are fine, in fact it will sometimes play the song normaly and other times skip through it. No idea what's wrong and I don't feel like spending another $100 to get it fixed. I doubt I would ever buy another one of their stereo's again.
