Strength:

the remote is nice with that feature for controlling multiple players.
cd-text... excellant! most of my cd's in there are backups with cd-text burned on, rockin'

Weakness:

noisy disc changing
no "+1" feature
no disc changing while another is playing

the problem people are getting with the jams and disc breaking is familair to me... i figured out the reason! if the carousel is not balanced correctly, it tilts ever so slightly, causing the mechanism to not pick up a disc correctly and it therefore jams... just load the machine up EVENLY or fully... i only wish i had bought the 400 disc version... it's so much cooler and i've run out of space! i seem to have paid over the odds for mine, probably because i'm in the UK, it was reduced from $330 too!

Strength:

I've had it almost a year with not one jam or problem (knock on wood). Good sound, flexible text

Weakness:

a little noisy when changing CD's, no "time" options

I read some of the many negative reviews and judging from them I must be very lucky. Mine has worked flawlessly. It seems to be fragile and I wonder if some poorly reviewed units were damaged in shipping. It has 7 "groups" available so you can shuffle discs in distinct catagories (jazz, rock, classical, etc.) or all together. I just hope mine doesn't break. There seems to be a lot of moving parts.

Strength:

Holds a lot of discs

Weakness:

Eats most of the discs that it holds

I bought two of these changers to power the music for my retail business. I bought them because of the s-link interface, which allows me to control the music selection from the store's server.

These changers are completely unreliable. The mechanism is either designed or manufactured poorly, because EVERY ONE of these that I have now owned (including the two originals, a third that I bought as a "reserve" because one of the original two was always broken, as well as a 4th that was sent to me as a brand new replacement for one of the original ones that broke) has started to "eat" my discs.

By "eat," I mean that the mechanism puts two discs back in the same slot, causing one to stand up too high. Then, as the carousel moves, because there is little room for error in the height clearance, the disc starts scraping against the structure of the player. This then causes a catastrophic chain reaction, as you can imagine.

You could argue that this is happening to me because I use these players intensively in my business. However, the replacement one, new in the box, that I received yesterday, started doing this after a whole 15 minutes of use. (Similar to the other recent reviewer.) Given the number of similar comments on this board, why doesn't Sony recall these as defective? They clearly are.

If they do redesign this, they should design a removable cartridge of sorts, so that if the unit ever does malfunction, all of the CD's can be taken out en masse. In the current design, they need to be unloaded and reloaded one by one. Given the incredible number of repairs I have endured, I have wasted untold hours of my life on this.

I am giving up on these players, and moving to MP3's with a large fast hard disk and a tape backup.

I would strongly advise against purchasing this model, or any of the Sony mega changers.

This thing is the worst. I just bought it today and I am taking it back tomorrow! It started jamming after about 2 songs on shuffle. I popped the case off to see what was up because it wouldnt open the door. Sure enough the disc had come out of the carrier. so with the case open and the changer on again it jammed several more times. I am lucky my wife was with me because this stupid changer was almost a pile of broken parts. Thankfully for her it will be going back tomorrow DONT BUY IT!!!! and if you did TAKE IT BACK!!!

Strength:

200 disc capacity, optical output, remote

Weakness:

jams, sometimes doesn't want to play discs upon first turning the player on, doesn't seem to like blue CD-Rs

I had the jaming issue as the other reviews until I watched the player swap out discs for an hour. It appears the case presses down on the upper plastic arm causing the CD to only be put half-way into the slot. Removing the case completely while playing seems to fix the jamming issue (%95 percent of the time it won't jam but it still does occasionaly. which is why I have now backed up all my CDs and only use CD-Rs in the player)

The player also seems to have issues reading blue colored CD-R discs (lots of skipping. skipping issues fixed when I changed to gold colored discs)

Also sometimes the player will play nothing when first turned on (even real CDs). I generally have to turn the player off for 5-10min then turn it back on and it works "perfectly"

Once I resolved the jamming issue the player turned out to be pretty decent for what I paid for it ($150, best buy employee discount)

Strength:

It hasn't destroyed ALL of my CDs yet...

Weakness:

The word "weak" is an understatement.

Ok,I started using this thing last summer, and for a week or two I had no problems. And then... cajunk wizzz cajunk cajunk, etc. Then came the joy of removing half the disks in my player to see what happened. For some reason the disk was not grabbed properly, which left my cd lounging off in the back of the player with little or no damage done, thankfully. I let it slide to see if it would happen again. Another couple of weeks later it did- pretty much the same exact thing, different disk. So then I make sure the player is exactly level- it's off by a hair, which I then correct. Yey! Problem solved! Another few weeks and WHAM! Ack! Now what? This time it was even worse. The cd wasn't grabbed properly again. And oh ho ho, try pushing the open button and see what happens. There's this horrible sound of all your CDs getting scraped along the sides, which you can do nothing much to stop. Even worse, for some reason the cd player never actually stops when the door opens. It trys to get to the right spot to stop on, but it never does, and just keeps moving side to side, all the while the elegant sound of your cds getting whacked.
So now, up to this point I have had 3 cds physically broken, numerous have been scratched, and I have finally run out of patience. I had way too much to start. THIS PRODUCT BLOWS! And for those of you who have only had it for a few weeks... just you wait. It will strike when you least expect it. It is not a leveling problem, it's Sony's.
Am I bitter? Sure I am. It's justified.

Can hold 200 CD's, Disc Memo

Weakness:

Jams

Just bought the CX235 two days ago. Hooked it up played a couple of CD's. Last night, put about 50 or so CD's in, did an all Disc shuffle, went great for about an hour, then it jammed. After looking inside the player, it appeared as though the disc got pulled from the carousel on its way to the player and didn't quite make into the right spot. The disc ended up jammed in the drive mechanism, wrecking the disc, and rendering the player useless, even after removal of the disc. It is a great idea, and I sure hope that Sony can get this technology right. Don't waste your time unless you have discs that you are wanting to get rid of/replace real soon.

Strength:

Easy to operate, price

Weakness:

Slow/noisy disc changing

I have been using the CDP-CX235 for around 6 months and have not experienced a problem yet. It is a little slow and noisy, but for the price I believe it is a great buy. If youre not looking to invest a great deal on a changer, I would highly recommend this one.

This CD player is junk. It drops CDs in the back of the player and then breaks them and you can't get them out without unloading all the CDs. And it's noisy.
