Strength:

Excellent sound clarity, fantastic dynamic range

Weakness:

has trouble tracking some discs

I bought this player as an upgrade from a Pioneer 6-disc changer, playing it thru a Rotel RTC950AX preamp, Rotel RB960BX amp, and Vandersteen 1B speakers.. What a difference in sound quality! The Marantz CD6000 OSE brought out nuances in the recordings that I had never heard with the Pioneer. Clarity and imaging are terrific. The only downside is that some discs (2 so far) skip intermittently (they play fine on the Pioneer).

Strength:

You will not find a better CD player at the price. Crisp with immmaculate audio detail, huge, gutsy sound but copes with any style of music easily. An exiting, thrilling sound that, bar Sony, mocks anything in it's price range. Buy with confidence

Weakness:

Nothing at the price. Hate it when audio reviewers say "Unforgiving with rough / poor recordings" - Of course it is - a bad recording is a bad recording!

A full blooded, up-front sound that will cope with all types of music, while balancing power, precision and detail with stunning success.

just wondering how the reviewer b4 me knows the "tight, powerful bass" is due to the HDAMs? seems like he's read the manual so it must be right...

Strength:

accurate non-boomy bass, sweety mids (non-aggressive vocals!), surpriseable crystal clear highs, no problems playing CD-RW, build like a tank

Weakness:

Troubles of playing some CD-R

I bought this superb CD player Marantz CD-6000 OSE in February 2000 and I won't regret. This CD player is an entry level to high-end for sure.

First I want to say that there is another CD player on the market - Marantz CD-6000, but this one is not OSE and I think that's the reason why this CD-player has sometimes not good ratings and I think these belongs to non OSE version. OSE version has HDAM module integrated into the CD player's path and has other features like better shielding, etc.

Bass is accurate without boomy sound and it sounds lightly (easily) but still with enough strength - this is great for my taste. I wonder how perfect mids and highs this player produce. The mids are very clear - vocals of Mary Black or 20-string harp-guitar of John Doan are incredible. Mids are little bit in 'foreground', but this is also perfect for my taste. For the price the highs are crystal clear.

When I listen to my favourite songs I hear music blowing through the room and it seems like the music is part of it. This player is very detailed and it shows differences in good and bad quality of source recordings. It has also many features as CD text, optical and coaxial digital output
(if you want to use better DACs).

I haven't problem tracking normal CD and CD-RW, however I had problems tracking some CD-R discs. Sometimes, when was trying to play some specific CD-R discs I noticed one problem with CD-R:
I pressed the number on remote control to play one track I wanted to listen. After pressing the number CD player tried to find the beginning of the track but it failed and showed ERROR on display (and it locked itself). Then I could only reopen the tray and close it again to be able to play music again. If I pressed the same track number on remote it started playing perfectly. I have tried to test this couple of times and sometimes it locked sometimes it started to play the track. I had the same problem with many CD-R discs (for eg. Kodak Gold, some specific TDK, but other types of TDK was perfect! - and both types of TDK was burned with the same burner, I noticed also that my old Sony CD-R with light blue layer was fine, other with darker blue layer had problems). Each CD-R disc has different reflective layer and different character (reflective layer of CD-R is worser than normal CD has), but I think new CD-R discs are not good as old ones (producers of CD-Rs should think about themself...).

I think that the problem described above is problem in logic of CD player, so if it has a problem finding the beginning of the track it locked itself too fast (maybe if there would be longer timeout for finding the beggining of the track it would not locked - who knows...). I also tried one test in the store i bought my player. I tried their piece of Marantz CD-6000 OSe and I noticed the same problem with CD-R discs. But good to know is that this happens only with CD-R, playing CD-RW discs (rewritable) is without troubles.

Equipment used:
Marantz CD-6000 OSE
Marantz PM-7000
Schneider 3-way speakers (German speakers, 10 years old)
Sennheiser HD-590 Prestige headphones

Summary:
Very good CD player with many features, perfect sound and solid build. You will be satisfied playing all sorts of music, but the best - the sort of music I like - clasical, instrumental, folk and rock.
I recommend this player to you. Maybe there are similar players on market, but I am sure there is not better player for this price on market and if there is one, tell me which one is it (I don't think you will find it).

I would give this player 4 stars, because of CD-R problems (nothing is perfect), but I'll give him 5 stars for its price/sound performance.

Good luck.
Highly recommended.

Boris

Strength:

Clarity of sound, CD text,optical/coaxial digital output, solid mask

Weakness:

Problems with CDR's (especially the ones that have dark blue layer)

The detail of the sound is too much some times. Punchy bass. Will do with all sorts of music tastes. Vey good value for money.

Strength:

clear and clean

Weakness:

Wild swings of dynamics for no reason

While the 6000 CD player seems to impress upon first hearing it begins to wear thin after a more intense listening session. Most instruments seem to sound the same, i.e. is this a violin or a viola that is playing. I had mine for three weeks and got rid of it. (Bought it without listening to it on the recommendation of a salesperson)While it seems to sound good, it definitely is not a MUSICAL player. For 500 bucks what do you expect.

Strength:

Full sound, coax output

Weakness:

None

Was looking for single disc transport with coax output (not Toslink) for connection to MSB Link (get one!!). Few choices available in budget category. Blown away by improvement of sound, depth of imaging. Transport absolutely stable, built like a rock. Programming features a nice bonus. Have had no problem with CD-R's, etc. CD Text sounds nice, but who has it? I've only seen it on my wife's Billy Joel box set.

Strength:

midrange, separation, timing, smooth yet detailed treble

Weakness:

revealing of poor recordings (if that's a weakness!)

This is actually a review for the CD6000 KI Signature! It's been a while since this player was launched and I'm surprised that no one has ventured an opinion on this one yet...

Partnered with:

Tag McLaren PA10 Pre-Amp
Rotel RB991 Power-Amp
JBL XTi 80 (3 way floorstanders - 2 x bass, 1 x mid, 1 x titanium tweeter)
Van Den Hul interconnects
QED Silver Anniversary Bi-Wire

(I listen to everything from Elgar to Steely Dan to Kruder and Dorfmeister)

I just have to say that the CD 6000 KI is the most musical CD player that I've heard at the price. It's powers of resolving detail are outstanding! It's ability to provide realistic sound-stage images are compelling, making me want to listen to my CD's for hours. Since I bought this player I've revisited older CD's from my collection - so much detail that was once absent is now portrayed in abundance.

The CD6000 KI easily out-performs price-comparable players and sounded better than players costing twice as much!

My only complaint is that the bass isn't that fast although that may have something to do with the QED speaker cable which has been critised for it's 'softening' of bass.

The CD6000 KI Signature is a bargain then. It is inherently musical and it makes you want to sit there and listen to your music for hours...

Strength:

Aesthetics, Sound reproduction, Functionality, Easy to operate, great high and and low freq., clean and open, relatively cheap, a good introduction cd player for the high end market.

Weakness:

Ridiculously long run-in period. Has to be coupled with the "right" amp and speakers

Ive only had the product for 4 days, but am already seeing a change in the sound from when I opened it from the packing.
This CD player brings out sounds that I thought were none existant in the CDs I listen to. In my opinion it comes into its own playing genres such as indie and alt. rock. Listening to Colplay - Parachutes is a totally new experiance! however alternative CD players should be considered if you want that edge listening to Classical strings. I beleieve it sufficiently copes with the guitars in albums such as "The Bends" by Radiohead. Tracks such as "My iron lung", "Fake plastic trees" and "Just" are reproduced in your living room, revealing nuances that I never knew existed!
Obviously purchasing the CD player at £150 deserves it a 5 star rating however if I were to purchase the product at £300 maybee I would give it 4 stars due to the controlled nature of the product in comparison to the Arcam Alpha 7se which I have read to having a higher top end.

The 6000ose redefines the term open and allows the listener to fall in love with his/her music collection all over again

Weakness:

Get errors playing certain CDRs

The Marantz Cd-6000ose Cd player that I ordered was billed as CDR friendly. It wouldn't play many of my CDRs when my old Onkyo cd player and my Kenwood car stereo cd changer had no problem playing these CDRs.
