Supra Ply 3.4 Speaker Cables

Supra Ply 3.4 Speaker Cables

DESCRIPTION

Simplistic fat conductors’ rising impedance (due to L) of +6dB/octave is further raised by internal eddy currents causing ’Skin effect’, like ’the square root of inductance’, adding. +3dB/oct, to the L-reactance slope. For typical cable runs, nett inductivity is such that performance in heavy plain conductors is measurably affected with steady signals just above 1kHz.

Strength:

Cheap!

Weakness:

None at the price.

At the price you cant complain about anything.

Its neutral, but it lacks in control and quietness compared to more expensive cables. Details are very, very good at the price.

Weakness:

A very stiff cable since shielding and both wires are packed
in a baby blue, fingerthick, squarish plastic coverage.

During the fall of 1999 I purchased a new stereo.
A Marantz PM66SE amp, a CD67 SE cd-player, a Denon 1500 DVD
and a Marantz 4000 tuner and a pair of Canton 630 Fonum.
Price for amp and cd ~ 600 $ totally. Speakers $ 600.
A cheap but good value kit. 10 meters of standard cable for 14 $ seemed suitable match. Then I read some articles about cables. More or less audiophile blah, blah, I thought.
But the only upgrade i could afford at the time were new cables. And the Supra 3,4 looked massive at 9 $ á meter.
Also seemed like a fun with a cable that needed some soldering connecting a grounded wire to it´s shielding metal layer. Never connected my old wires after that to do a comparing test. No need to. It sounds good enough to make
a comparisson to an overkill. Flutes sounds airy, hi hat sounds distinct but don´t wears your ears out and Charles Mingus accoustic Jazzbass sounds alive and vibrating in a way that makes you sit up all night going through your records with a big smile and at 6 o´clock in the morning
waking up the neighbourhood with the reference shootout scene in the Matrix ( the lobby shoot-out )hearing the tingling sounds of gunshells falling on the marble floor.

Strength:

clarity, ease of presentation, tightened base

Weakness:

none that I can see

I'm not into spending on $100/foot cable so its a budget level review.

With tube pre and power, and somewhat analytical PS Audio DAC and SD Acoustics speakers, this cable works very well.

I've used all of the above with this system and the 3.4S is the only cable that gave satisfactory performance. It presented a far more open and easy presentation. At the price, it was a bargain and certainly the best investment I've made.

Finding it in the US can be a challenge.

4 overall as I don't know enough.
