I recently purchased this product after reading the reviews in various magazines. I also had a strong fear that my current surge protectors were not sufficient in protecting my growing investment. I purchased this product from Stereo Advantage for $99, 50 dollars off the MSRP. The only difference between this and the HTS 2000, is the the 2000 has 12 outlets and the 1000 has 8 outlets. The strip has 4 switched (1500 watt max) and 4 unswitched (500 watt max)outlets, coax connections, and telephone connections. It protects up to a 1300 joule spike and covers equipment connected up to $100,000. I have noticed a distinct difference in sound and video reproduction since adding this product. The build quality is very good and the results are even better.

I had been using a generic surge protector until now, I didn't feel the need to spend $300-$700 for one of the high end power conditioners on the market. I bought the HTS1000 with the notion that I probably would not hear any noticable difference, and would end up returning it. The review in TAS sounded good but......would I hear a difference? Well I sure did, from bass to treble the sound improved. For $150 this is a considerable improvement and well worth the price. The performance for price factor gives 5 stars without a doubt.

I agree with the person below. I noticed a marked improvement with my home theater system. I bought this primarily to filter out interference with reception with several local TV stations I was experiencing. Not only did it filter out the interference so that I can have a clear picture again, but also had the added bonus of the clearer sound from my home theater system. By the way, the interference with my reception was coming from my DVD player.

Very good product, especially consider the price for a high-end power conditioner / surge protector with eight outlets. Designed by famous Richard Marsh, designer of MIT Z-System - the most comprehensive power-treatment products available today, the difference of sound (and picture!) after using is absolutely noticeable. If you need more outlets, try HTS2000. But others are the same. The only thing I can complain about is that I hope the outlets can be spaced for transformer use.

Strength:

Removed a slight hum I was experiencing through my receiver. Removed some interference I was seeing on my tv screen when the AC runs, which is almost all the time down here.

Weakness:

I wish it had more outlets, but I can't complain for the price.

Well worth the purchase price, $79.99 from a local audio-video dealer. After purchasing a new Mitsubishi 60" big screen and Sony DVD player I wanted some cheap insurance against power surges but I also wanted the power conditioning benefits. This was the cheapest Monster power strip which has the line conditioning feature. Well worth the investment.

Hard to lose at this price, so I bought one to protect my tube gear and to filter out the fridge, computer, lights, etc. System sounds darn good without the filtering, but the quiets seem a little quieter than without. Good on Monster for this product.
If I had the $$ I would go for the PS Audio P300. Performance 4, value 5

Strength:

Relatively inexpensive

Weakness:

None so far.

I was skeptical, thinking that the Monster could not make a significant difference in sound, but serve primarly as a surge protector. But, do my ears deceive me??? The sound on my audio system does sound more pure, smooth, and even more dynamic! Thinking that I would have to shell out over $300.00 for a good line conditioner, I am thankful that I have found one, by a reputable brand, for half the cost.

Strength:

value; it works, as advertised

Weakness:

confusing labels; not always clear about which sockets to use, especially for audio only

On the strenth of the TAS review of the HTS 2000 and comments here, I bought this for just of $100.00. It clearly, and undisputably works. I live in high RFI neighborhood; 3 TV transmitters within a 2 mile radius. The subwoofer was picking up an RFI buzz that was clearly audibile. Ferrite beads on the power cord had no effect; the Monster killed the buzz. The effects on audio (CD Player and Krell integrated amp) were more subtle. A little more top-end detail. The more expensive HTS-2000 has more outlets, including 2 outlets that are labelled "high current," which the 1000 lacks. I plugged the subwoofer (150w) and the integrated amp (300w total) into the "audio" side of the 1000, and could not hear adverse effects on bass or dynamics in a a limited audition at the loudest levels. I have a phono preamp with severe RFI problems; we'll see what the Monster does for that . . .

After I upgraded my home theater setup it seemed prudent to buff up the surge protection. I was eyeballing line conditioners on eBay and went to the Good Guys and noticed the Monster Power conditioners. They had impressive claims and specs, but at $149 I figured I was looking at an MSRP impulse 'buy it along with the $3000 system' price. So I went back to eBay and got one for $99 delivered. I didn't expect much really, just piece of mind. I was surprised though, to see how much cleaner my cable and satellite displays looked, especially cable, which went from a crappy/OK rating to a solid Very Good rating. Sound is doubtful because I haven't had the mains long enough to have a good reference. It sure didn't hurt sound.

This is a very nice way to improve your system subtly. The noise floor drops significantly and you really do hear the difference. At $150 this is a really easy way to both protect and enhance your system. But at $100 its even better- I got mine from www.audio-direct.com for $107 shipping included. I highly recommend it for the price.
