Strength:

smooth, detail, quality made and a soundstage that beats most dacs

Weakness:

none

I have tried many different cables thru the years and none have done what these pro-9 plus cables have done. My MIT's were good cables and I enjoyed them greatly until I made the mistake of changing my processor(upgrade) to a Proceed AVP and loss the use of my Dodson DAC and of course, then my soundstage. Do not get me wrong I like the Proceed overall better than the B & K ref. 30, but the ref. 30 had a pass thru circuit. However, when I get the Proceed upgraded to a AVP2 it will too. Like I said, I tried a few different cable companies all claiming this and that but not until I tried the pro-9 plus, did I get a lot of my soundstage back. I have Legacy Focus 20/20 speakers, which can be bright if not cabled right, sounded GREAT. For a speaker cable to do that much is simiply amazing. If you own these speakers you owe it to yourself to tried these or the magic line, which is suppose to be even better.

Strength:

Allowing the intended signal through to the speakers without loosing any information along the way or adding anything to it...'nough said.

Weakness:

None

This cable is very neutral without a hint of adding anythign in the signal path to the speakers. Beautiful, accurate sound with no rolled off highs or piercing mids. I used the old (1996) MIT Terminator 4's before this....man...I was missing a world of detail, internote silence, and depth. I love these speakers and would easily recommend them to anyone...these are not system dependant in any way.

Strength:

Allows everything through. No changes.

Weakness:

compulsive cable shoppers will have to stop shopping.

I will keep this simple. With these cables, I hear NO addition nor subtration to my front end. Since I purchased these cables (audionut beat everyone''s price) I have spent countless hours cleaning my front end signal path. Every change is very noticeable in terms of precise imaging, soundstage dimensions, frequency response, and response time. I see no need to shop again. Paging through the 27 reviews of the Harmonic Technology Pro-9 speaker cable, I was amazed to find that 21 listeners had scored it 5, while 6 had rated it 1, maximum 2 stars. What does this mean? Could it be that a few golden ears, who have tried the lot and really know what cables are all about, find that HT is barely average, while the majority are just regular Joes who've heard reasonably good cable for the first time and jump to a 5 star rating? Possible. Unlikely, but possible. But perhaps there's something more to it?

About 9 months ago, a friend and I auditioned several systems before finding something that we both agreed was so outstanding, we placed our orders. Having run it all in, we set about finding THE cable set to connect everything up. At the time, my friend was using top-of-the-line Aural Symphonics, while I had a collection of Magnan Reference and Vi. We hauled together some JPS, Harmonic Technology and Nordost SPM and Quatro-Fil and round at his place set about finding the absolute best for our systems.
When the dust settled, Harmonic Technology's Pro-9 and Pro-Silway II were the cables we chose. They did not best the others by far, but they consistently won every category we evaluated by a small margin.

We placed our orders and waited in anticipation. When mine arrived I installed everything and left it cook for a couple of hundred hours. So how did it sound? Not great! Bass was boomy, a little phasey in the upper mids, tops irritating and lacking sparkle. Overall the system lacked energy. It sounded as though my room had developed bass nodes and too many reflections. In fact I added a few treatments to calm things down but to no avail. I fooled around with the cables, tightened the plugs and things improved a little. In desperation, I started substituting. First I tried power cables but that didn't help. Then I threw in some old Litz speaker cable I had left over from some old Tannoys. Holy Moses! A massive improvement! Bass nodes gone and the treble all sweetness and light! Switching back to the Pro-9 was a disaster.
I called Harmonic Technology and told them I thought the cable may somehow be faulty. Jim Wang was most concerned and began arranging immediate replacement. The next night I set about removing the just run-in cable but before I did I checked a few other things. Power polarity OK? Uh-huh. Air in the pneumatic amp stands? Yep. The tube amp was switched on but no music was playing. For some reason I rapped on the top surface of the stand and was greeted by substantial feedback from the speakers. Tapping the amp itself elicited no response but the air suspension amp table was decidely causing feedback. Wierd. This was exactly what it was supposed to prevent!

I hastily removed the amp from its stand and reinstalled everything. The system sounded great. A little dark but all the anomalies were gone. On re-installing the Pro-9, the system opened up and the walls dissappeared. Treble sparkled and bass was solid, round, warm and melodic. The midrange simply glorious and the system's energy was awesome. Awesome!

Re-installing the Pro-9 released a new spectrum of sound and energy in my system. Compromised as it was with feedback problems, the result was catastophic. It sounded far worse. If this system allowed less than 1 star, that's where it was.

But with the problem resolved, I would judge Pro-9 to be one of the finest cables available, regardless of price. Every other cable we tried had its strong points but non were as consistently good as the HT.

In hi-fi, there's a golden rule. No matter what the component, it can never sound better than it is, but it can certainly sound a whole lot worse. Perhaps that explains those 6 lone stars?

Strength:

One of the best
One of the best cables out there. At this price, it's a steal!

Weakness:

None.

One hour! I've been using the Pro9+ for one hour only and I'm totally blown up!

When I learned about Harmonic Technologies, I was convinced that cables didn't make no noticeable differences in a good system, except in case of incompatibility. For me, there were cables that worked, and cables that didn't work. Nevertheless, I decided to try the Pro9 +, since all the reviewers seemed enthusiastic about it. And then, magic happened...

Man, this cable is the best thing that happened to my system since I changed my integrated amplifier for Brinkmann (a german manufacturer) monoblocks. The difference is as obvious. Everything is better: bass, soundstage, transparency, even is I listened to the cable straight out of the box. I won't even listen to my old one again, the improvement being incredibly obvious.
I read in some reviews below that using the Pro9 was like changing a piece of your system. Well, I couldn't say better. This cable will give you the best of what you hook it to.
I always thought a little agressivity was the bane of all high-end system, but the Pro9 made me revise my jugement. My Mani2 sound sweeter, and yet, they also gained in energy, presence, bass extension. I wouldn't trade them for BW801!

Many thanks to Jim Wang and his team for bringing outsuch a huge product, at this price. This is the cable from (and for) someone who really loves music and is curious enough to give it a try. Some esoteric cables manufacturers probably don't sleep any more since the Pro9 + is on the market!

Before changing anything in your system, try it! This is truly a reference cable. I dare not imagine what will happen when it is totally burnt in.

10 stars for both value rating and overall rating.

There's definitely something wrong either with your
set-up Dave or the cable distributor's burn-in machine !

I actually had to replace my Pro-9 with a Pro-11 on my
Hales Rev.2's due to the Pro-9's overkill performance
with the Hales !

The Pro-9 benefits tremendously with bigger speakers
so as to fully realize its awsome performance.

Also, FYI, this cables takes a very long time to break-in.
I am not sure about doing this with a machine. I broke
mine in with the XLO Test & Burn-In CD, for about 400 Hours.

Regards, Sherif

Strength:

clear and detailed cable with a good sound stage not aggressive at all, more honest.

Weakness:

lets hear the weak points in your system.

I've heard several cables as you can read because i work in a hifi-store who is specialized in cables i'm also a member of an audio club for several years.
The cables above are from very good qaulity and there is no reason to say that they are no good stuff, its very inmportant that the cables are treated well in this way:
if the cables are new, give them a good burn in time.
does the cable fit with your system(capacity).
take time to tune your system with all kind of cables if you have the change and try several at the same time(ls-speaker cable and interconnect between amp and cd)

I will preface this review by saying that after many cable auditions (thanks to BoB @ The Cable Company which is the ONLY way to do this) this is what worked in my system.

It consist of a Mcintosh 7270 solid state (yes there is some give and take here, but I love my Mac!)a Wadia 830 CDP and Magneplaner 3.5R's. Thats it! I like simple.

I already had the AQ midnight when I bought the Maggies about 4 years ago. I didn't think I needed to change cables, but at the same time I was wondering how or if my system could improve without changing the equipment. I started to audition speaker cables and immediately realized that changes to a quality speaker cable can make a HUGE difference.

This was pretty much true with any of the speaker cables I tried. Now I could start listening to the differences in the cables and see which one worked best in my system. That is why I won't comment on any of the other cables tried because it wouldn't be fair as they might win out in another system.

I will however comment why the Harmonic Pro -9's sounded fantastic in mine. The first reason: I wondered - if a speaker cable had made that big of a difference, how much better would an interconnect change make things. When I auditioned interconnects, the Harmonic Pro-9 delivered every different sonic signiture of every different interconnect I tried.

They just seemed to be "an open highway". That I guess is just the point. They don't sound good, they let everything else that sounds good get through to the speakers. If there is clean deep bass in the recording, it all comes through. If there are silky highs, or a deep and wide mezmerising soundstage, it all comes through. These cables will tease you to feed them the best equipment and the best interconnects possible.

The interconnect that made my system soar to new unimaginable heights was the JPS superconductor 2. (Look for a future review).

And as far as value, I didn't listen to any $2,000 speaker cables, but I can tell you, I can't imagine why I would need to spend that much. The combination IN MY SYSTEM of the Harmonic Pro -9 and JPS sounds just about as close to a live performance as I think I could get!

Weakness:

weak bass, colorations, awkward

In my system, this HT cable sounded comparable to ordinary Radio Shack wire. Bass was noticably weaker than with the Alpha Core and Cardas cables I tested, and it introduced a brightness coloration that killed the sound of a lot of instruments.

This cable was broken in by the distributor on a machine, and I confirmed with him that it was actually performed properly.

This goes against all the other 5-star reviews, but I'm just reporting what I heard. My system: Wadia 850 CD -> Atma Sphere S30 -> Silverline Sonatas.
