I recently purchased the Audioquest type 2 hyperlitz cable for my front channel B&W 202I speakers. The difference from Monster cable was significant. There was a noticable boost in bass frequencies, dynamics and detail. I was so pleased with the results that I bought another cable for my center channel B&W CC6. If you have the money, you can get much better varieties of Audioquest cable, but the Type 2 gets you in the door with noticeable improvements.

Just got these today, about 1.35 a foot plus tax. When I hooked them up, I felt the difference from my 65 cents a foot 16 guage wire. Bass and Midranges were enhanced. The bass was especially more lively. Right now I have my Paradigm Phantoms hooked up to the 2's, and my Titans hoocked up on my old 16 guages. Great wire, the Paradigm store here even uses them for the floor models

Strength:

clarity and control at dirt cheap prices. Paid a $1.30/ft from the good folks over at onecall.

Weakness:

Bass response. Not to be used to run a subwoofer!

Decided I needed some better speaker cable to run off my new Yamaha htr-5250 receiver. Was running cheap old recoton wire when I went out and purchased 75 ft of monster cable XP. Listening to DTS on my system, the vocals are relatively weak compared to the surrounding explosions and so on...The monster cable made this problem ten times worse! While acheiving better highs off the monster, the bass line was decent and the voices were crap. I ditched the monster cable after a day and ended up purchasing the audioquest type 2. Although A LOT of consideration was put into the Kimber 4PR's. The price was better on the audioq and was getting it from a great, respectable company like Onecall, I like the way they do buisness. The great clarity of type 2 really stood out immediately. The vocals on DTS did my system justice while still hearing all the bells and whistles. A great SPEAKER wire, not SUB wire.

Strength:

Great bang for the buck. Typical sweet AQ midrange and treble

Weakness:

Not the biggest bass, but for the money it is tight and articulated very well

I got this cable at a steal of a price from the cable company. Only .89 cents per foot and it is the newer Type 2+. I have two systems & while on the main system I splurged for a 40 foot set of MIT MH-750 to match the front speakers b/c I do some 5 channel stereo on occassion, I just could not see this expense for the "B" system in the basement. There I have a nice Carver amp and the MSB Link DAC modified by Dan Wright. The carver has A & B speakers so I run Purist Audio's Maximus to the A speakers which are close by. These go for around a thousand for an 8 foot run. The B speakers are at the other end of my basement gym and are some 40 feet away from the amp. I wanted good cable there but as I said the expense of REALLY good cable was hard to justify. I was using Radioshack 14 awg cable and the speakers sounded OK.I decided to get the Type 2 b/c I saw it on sale for $1 per foot. So I thought for less than $100 I could give them a try. I love AQ as I use some Midnights currently to biwire the fronts upstairs. I use it on the top posts b/c AQ has great upper clarity.
Anyway, when i called I was told it was only 89 cents per foot so I thought what the hell, lets shot gun it to the speakers? So for around $150 they sent me 180 feet of type 2+! that makes it a total of 14 awg per run now. I got it and ran it on my duo tech cable cooker for a week then to the speakers. While it is not night and day better than the RS stuff, it does have that really sweet AQ midrange and the highs are very close to the midnight's sound. The bass is not in the class of the midnight or colbalt II but those were $500 for a 10 foot run when new so what do you expect. Even though it got around 150 hours on the cable cooker I know it takes still another 100 hours for cables to really settle in once hooked up. So I expect the midrange to continue to bloom a little more.
This is good budget cable for very long runs to rear speakers. If you get it and run it shot gun like I did you can expect pretty decent bass & great midrange for the money. Does really well on vocals and accoustic guitar too. If you are looking for cable for you main speakers you are probably better off getting some used AQ Midnight or Cobalt II. I have picked them up before for $125 on the Midnight II Biwire @ 9 feet. Still, this is way better than theRS crap at nearly teh same price. Plus it is fun to terminate them yourself. Great price on good cable. Giving it 5 stars on both for theprice point and fact you get true shot gun for the same as most charge for regular runs! Always better this way!

Strength:

Cheaper than most anything else. GOOD speaker cable.

Weakness:

Not meant to be used for subs even when you run two cables to one input.

Bought it at OneCall for 1.30/ft. I have bought stuff from onecall before and just love the way they do buisness. The Type 2 was a real improvement over recently purchased Moster cable XP. Even though the monster was 16 awg, the Type 2 just killed it.

Strength:

cheap

Weakness:

color, as if it matters

I have been buying audio components for over 20 years now ,I have givin very little thought to high price cables. Thought it was more hype than science. That was untill I bought the type 2's. Was I Wrong.. Bass became alot more defined, there seemed to be more "air" around the instruments, vocals more prononced. And the soundstage, snapped into place. They need to be burned in , A couple of day's. With the tuner at low vol. will do. Cables are truly a component. and should be considered as such.
