Strength:

Great bass, build quality, clear mids and highs

Weakness:

Solid core wire a little hard to work with

I followed a previous reviewer's advice and used two cables per speaker which brings the guage down to 14 or so. Works great! I was using Monster M.75 speaker cable which sounded fine, but this is a definite improvement. More powerful bass and clearer mids and highs. Good build quality. A little stiff because of the sold core wire.

Strength:

Good Value, Great Performance, easy to cut and strip.

Weakness:

Not Really

Type 2 is pretty good but it's too small for me (17 AWG cable). So I used it in a double run (similar to biwire). That is, I used the whole cable for one positive and another cable for one negative. This makes about 14 AWG cable, which is bigger and better than Type 4 for the same price. The result is a much better cable with a performance that is among the best for this price ($2.50/foot). I love it.

I have read so many subjective reviews on cables and since
physics made sense to me (Copper is Copper), I was not a believer. I went to my local audio shop and he was discounting the Type 2 at almost zip cord prices. I ended up buying some.

I bi-wired my Cerwin Vega CVT-10's and did some listening.
There was a noticable improvement in imaging and the
highs became clearer. I am not saying that the improvement
was as noticable as dropping bricks off of a tall building
onto a BMW but was definately noticable.

I was using some high quality 12 ga. stranded wire before
and noticed that the highs were fuzzy or grainy and the image just was not there.

I still can't justify spending $1000 on speaker wire
but at reasonable cost, this cable did make a difference.

Strength:

crisp highs, better bass response

Weakness:

none

Great set of cables. I purchased them at 1.00/foot PLUS free shipping from onecall.com. Speaker cables should be the last improvement for a system, but they really DO make a difference. After breaking them in, the highs on vocals were more crisp and the bass range increased also. The construction is also very durable. Give these babies some time for break-in and you'll notice the difference!

Strength:

Clear highs, smooth midrange

Weakness:

A little bass shy unless using double run

This review is for the new Type 2+.

A best buy consider the price that you have to pay. Its strong point is a sweet sweet midrange. A clear high not not overly bright. Its weakness is the inability to deliver deep bass. Considering the size of its conductor, it is not a supprise. The good news is that it is cheap enough to make a double run. This will bring the bass up to the level for usage with full range speakers.

Clean highs and mids

Weakness:

A little "light"

I had been running my Wireworld Oasis for several years full-range to my KEF C95's. I picked up some Audioquest literature at a local audio show, and was intrigued by their claims. Also, I wanted to bi-wire my C95's to see if they would sound better. Although the cables are from different manufacturers, I bi-wired the Oasis on the bass, and the Type-2 on the midrange, tweeter. The cables are very similar in construction and work very well together. I immediately noticed an increase in the soundstage. The mid and highs were much more defined and clearer. Now that the Oasis was only running the bass, it too was stronger and punchier. Although both Audioquest and Wireworld did not recommend mixing their cables together in a bi-wire situation (I think this suggestion was more ego than than true practicality), I have truly improved the sound I hear from my speakers.

Strength:

good bass definition, sound is warm and detailed; good value

Weakness:

it's an entry-level cable so you could probably do much better

These were biwired for me by Omer at ozenterprises.net who provided great service and valuable advice.

These cables are competent performers for their price, bass definition was good and the sound was warm and detailed. You will not be disappointed, but if you are critial listener, you will probably turn elsewhere for musical satisfaction (and the requisite higher price tags).

Solid copper cables are hard to work with

I recently purchased a set of Acoustic Energy Aegis One speakers after an amazing demo (see that review separately). As I was on an extremely tight budget, I decided against buying new speaker wire at the time. (Also due to the fact that the store I purchased the speakers at carried no speaker cable for under $100) I set the speakers up at home, fiddled with positioning for hours, and got to a point where I was happy, but they still sounded nothing like they had at the dealer. I kind of decided to chalk it up to their special listening room, the fact that the stereo I heard them on was much more expensive etc. etc. Then I was at a local mid-fi audio shop, and saw these cables for $1.50/ft. I decided that for $25 I might as well get some, and see if cables made any difference. So I went home and set them up, replacing the cheap 16 gauge stranded wire I had been using. Set-up was kind of a pain, not having good cable strippers. I used gold plated spades for cable termination. Once set up, I put in Massive Attack's Angel, the song that had most impressed me at the dealer, and WOW, I was blown away. Suddenly the soundstage centered, the highs were crisper, the lows more solid. I couldn't believe it, suddenly the speakers sounded just like I wanted them to! It sounded like I had a center channel and a subwoofer attached! And these are still relatively inexpensive cables! All I can say is, this has got to be the best $25 you could spend for your system. Get rid of that stranded wire, and get these if your budget is tight, or better if $$$ allow. I can't even believe I'm writing this review for speaker cables, but it really made so much of a difference that I just have to tell people! My ratings reflect this cable at this price range, of course I realize that true audiophiles will want much better than this.

Strength:

Great bang for the buck whenran double biwire

Weakness:

at this price NONE

Update to my previous post. The good folks at AQ told me running these cables pure shot gun was WRONG! I'm talking one entire cable for positive amp to speaker and one whole cable for ground. Capacitence is WAY better if you run it as double biwire instead!!!! So take both red wires from two Type 2's (4 total now)into the positive and the same for ground. Now you still have two seperate cables running to each speaker but w/in each cable you have both hot and ground running and then you just connect all 4 hot wires from both cables into the single red terminal on speaker binding post.I then use nice Transparent Premium Jumpers to go to the top binding posts instead of trying to biwire the speaker w/ this thinner cable! Would cause another capacitence issue!
As I said, running both hot and ground w/in each of the 4 seperate cables greatly reduces the capacitence!!! Where as b/4 the type 2 as shot gun was a little better than the RS stuff now it is NIGHT & DAY BETTER! Bass got really big, tight and fast. Midrange opened up. I was not aware of this b/c on my high dollar shot gun cables they factored in the capacitence issue when building them but AQ designed these to carry both hot and ground so you MUST use it that way to get the true sound they can deliver. Hope this helps.

I recently purchased these AQ Type2 cables for my main speakers. (I'm driving Paradigm Atoms from an NAD 304 integrated amp). I had previously been using generic speaker cables and difference in sound was tremendous. Acoustic guitar melodies were crisper. There was more presence in the bass. It was the best $24 investment ($1.50/ft) I have made for my stereo system.
