I agree on the previous posted reviews on the " BL-1 Series II " , except that they can be a bit tinny / harsh at times , probably due to certain recordings . I also would like to introduce you to the " SILVER PINK " interconnet , which is made by " SONIC LINK " in ENGLAND . I feel these are even a better cable than the DH LABS . They are imported by " REGA " and usually can be found at a " REGA " dealer . If not in stock , ask the " REGA " dealer if they can be ordered . The " BL-1 Series II " cost me around $ 90 for a 1/2 meter pair , while the " SONIC LINK - Silver Pink " cost around $ 90 for a 1 meter pair . So try out a pair of the " Silver Pink " , I'm sure you'll be impressed by them . The " Silver Pink " need a good break in period much like the BL-1's , so don't be to quick to judge .
1) DH LABS - BL-1 SERIES II : 4 stars 2) SONIC LINK - Silver Pink : 4.9 stars ( nothings perfect )

Strength:

Transparent, detailed sound without any coloration. Great sound image. Makes the music sound much more real and live. Incredible price.

Weakness:

None.

If you want to improve your system's sound in the most cost effective way, BL-1 is the answer, I think. BL-1 really improved my budget system's sound. BL-1 was clearly better than all the cables I have tried. Maybe the Superconductor didn't work with my system because my system is not expensive enough. BL-1 definitely makes music much more enjoyable. I have Technics CD player, NAD integrated amp and Tannoy speakers.

Strength:

Liquid midrange. bigger, tighter bass, more focus musical presentation.

This cable rocks! Unbelievable price at under $100 per pair. The BL1 runs from my DAC to Bryston Integrated. The midrange vocal presentation was the first improvement that I noticed. I compared the BL1 with the cables above and it is quite evident that the DH Labs provides a more liquid and focused presentation. Rebecca Pidgeon's voice in her song "Spanish Harlem" and "Her Man Leaves Town" is so well defined. The bass is big and tight. Combine it with the T-14 and the music becomes addicting.

I can go on and on and it is clear that the DH Labs reputation is pretty much established already. Give this cable an audition. For under $100, it's a bargain. And it will surely sound as good as cables costing twice as much.

My system consists of the following:

Bryston B-60 integrated Amp (the stock jumpers replaced with pure silver cable from homegrownaudio.com)
B&W 602 Series 2 Speakers
Rotel RCD 971 filled with refined sands (in a ziplock) on top
MSB Link DAC III
Monster Data Link 100
DH Labs T-14 Speaker cable
DH Labs BL1 SII
All components sits on DIY MDF Shelf (2 5/8" pasted together for reduced resonance)
Custom made sand filled speaker stands
All components plugged in a dedicated circuit
Speaker cables lifted from the floor using DIY glass tube

Strength:

very good sound on all frekvencies, esp. bass!

Weakness:

i this price ...nothing

Great construction, five nines silver and Teflon dielectric, fully symetrical.
I have been using the BL-1 for four weeks in a budget system. Yamaha AX-590 integr. amplifier, Kenwood DP- 4090 / CD /. For comparisons I was using either the Belden / 89259 / and
the Van den Hul D-102 Mk3 Hybrid interconnects. I was using the IXOS-603 speaker cables in the bi-wire mode. To monitor the sound I was using the floorstanders AUDAX HCM-1300 / kit / and the standmounts ENERGY Connoisseur C-2. The listening room had 16 square meters and was rather attenuated. In order to eliminate excessive peaks of voltage and other various interferenc /RIF, EMI / I have had the OK FP10-SF power stabilization filter / Czech Made / permanently engaged.
I am always quite cautious when testing and reviewing interconnects, because often there are only
tiny differences and often You can not here the difference at all. I am infuriated by the enomously high pricing of some brands. Good, all equipments are ready!!!
I soon got a feeling the DH Labs interconnects were a better match then its two competitors.
Bass: The higher bass seemed a bit isolated. The lower region as such was simply more diverse and motley. That was where the Belden a bit lagged behind. The Van den Hul came really close, but the body of double-bass was not so well projected. But It was better with the electric bass guitar, where I prefered its higher control of the lowest region.
Highs and mids: The cymbals gained a bit more metal and natural character, the woman´s vocal sounded naturally too. So did the piano and brass.
The overall atmosphere of the recordings was a touch more airy in comparison to its contenders.
The space and imaging was not affected.
For the second part of my review I used a more refined system consisting of: Musical Fidelity A-2 integrated amplifier, Tannoy R-2 floorstanders and Musical Fidelity E-624 /24 bit / CD player. Speaker cables from AudioQuest, model P2. With this setup I registered more pronounced enhancements of everything already mentioned. The test confirmed that even at a modest prize of approximately $100
per 1 meter set, You may find a good interconnect. This cable represents a very high value for money and that it wiil stands its way even in the most demanding application. The best price I found in the AudioNut Virtual internet shop. HOWGH!

Strength:

Wide open soundstage, brings the music alive, great bass.

Weakness:

None when used on a digital source. Don't use for analog.

Originally purchased these to use as the interconnect for my Nakamichi tape deck. They sounded thin and unimpressive. I then switched them to the CD player. WOW! WHAT a difference! The whole system opened up. Bass was amazingly tight and full. Interestingly enough, the Transparent Link 200 that was switched from the CD to the tape deck sounds great with the analog source.

Bought the BL-1s from Jeff at Value Audio. Great customer service. You can't go wrong with these IF you use them for a digital source.

As an addendum to my review below, I didn't find the BL-1s to need as much burn-in as others have stated. They only had about 3 hours of playing time with the cassette deck before they were switched to the CD. They sounded great, virtually out of the box, when hooked up to the CD. In addition to great bass, the highs and midranges really come to life and envelop the listener.

I'm seriously considering getting another pair for the connection between amp and pre-amp, although I'm not certain there will be as much of a sonic difference as with the source component. These are really a great pair of interconnects (for digital sources only) and are highly recommended. BTW, my set up is as follows:

Rotel RB-1080 power amp
Rotel RCD-961 (CD player)
Nakamichi DR-8 (cassette deck)
Rotel RX-975 (used as pre-amp/tuner)
Rotel RLC-900 (AC line conditioner)
B&W N804s (bi-wired)
DH Labs Q-10 speaker cable (bi-wire)
DH Labs BL-1 interconnects
Transparent The Link 200 interconnects

Follow up to older review. These cables get better the older they get. You definately need to break them in.
I have since purchased a pair of pure silver interconnects from Silver Audio (www.silveraudio.com) because of the reviews here, and they were having a sell of older stock. These are even better than DH labs. Actually for $225 a meter ($175 1/2) for the SIlver Bullet 4.0's they are better than the Kimber KCAG ($430) that I tried a month ago. They, along with DH labs are one of only 4 cables in the Audioreview hall of fame. By far the best cables I have ever heard. I still Have DH Labs T-14 speaker cable, as I cannot afford the pure silver speaker cables (yet).

I still think that the DH labs is the best buy for budget minded people. But when you get a wild hair, buy the Silver Audio interconnects. Ask Max or Kim if they have any B-stock (around 20% off because some one has traded up)they also have a 30 day moneyback guarantee and shipping is free.

Good Listening,

Frank

Donald at www.wenterprisesnw.com sells the DH Labs stuff cheaper than anyone I have found.

I've had these pups in place for a little over two weeks and I .... can .... not .... believe how much difference thay make on my system. I use them primarily for music but I'll switch them to the DVD player (Tosh.3109) to watch a movie or for HDCD. Took a bit of time to break-in but once they did....WOW!
5 stars across the board. And having the DH T-14 speaker cable hooked up to the DefTech BP8s probably isn't hurting matters either - But that's another review.
Get 'em if you can!
