Strength:

Great sound Excellent value

Weakness:

Remote Control Minor fan noise

Overall I am very satisfied with the Nakamichi RE-10. It replaced a Marantz SR5200 after a failed attempt at home theatre. My return to two channel was via this receiver which added a ton of clarity to music that was just missing with the Marantz. This surprised me because I chose the Marantz for its supposed stereo abilities. My biggest complaint is that I can''t seem to get my Sony V701 universal remote to work it. If anyone knows the code I would appreciate if you posted it here.

Strength:

Sound quality, style, design integrity.

Weakness:

For $210 (shipping incl.) from UBid.com I cannot cite any weaknesses. THE FAN IS NOT AN ISSUE !!!! Period. Be advised, however, the clearly written instruction manual was written in 1998. Consequently, I would infer that Nakamichi is liquidating their remaining supply through UBid.com. Much to my delight!!

First, and foremost, the knock against this Nakamichi receiver continues to be the fan. I DISAGREE 1000% !!!! THE FAN IS NOT A PROBLEM. PERIOD. That being said -- this is one fine two channel receiver for $210(shipping incl.) from UBid.com. The Nakamaichi RE-10 should earn a J.D. Power award for fit, finish, sound quality, and design integrity. It''''''''s a no nonsense (no frills)high quality audio component. If your looking for a 100 watts per channel (rated at 8 ohms)this receiver will sound good in your living room or den! Period. I''''''''m extremely pleased with my purchase. Period. Why so cheap? As the sophistication and refinement of surround sound receivers evolves like a N.A.S.A. space program, thedemand and price two channel audio receivers plummets. This is analogous to VCR''''''''s and DVD players. It''''''''s very possible to buy high quality VCR''''''''s for $100 or less, today. Consequently, with the ever increasing popularity of home theatre, introduction of Dolby Pro Logic II, innovative DSP modes, and SACD -- why buy a two channel stereo receiver? If you want good, clean, unadulterated sound, the Nakamichi RE-10 represents UNCOMMON VALUE!!!! Period.

Strength:

If you''re looking for a $200 receiver for a budget or second system, I think you would be hard pressed to find something better.

Weakness:

I can understand that the fan might be a problem if you have to sit near the receiver. However, I think that most typical playing levels will completely override this quite subtle sound. IMHO, it''s less of an issue than tweeter hiss in some quite expensive tube systems.

I''ve recently taken some components out of my bedroom system and moved them to my office. Needing a new receiver or integrated and seeing the ads at ubid, I bit, despite the fact that Nakamichi has filed for bankruptcy. (I figured that since so much Naki product was around, parts would likely be available for several years.) For $200, I give this receiver a very high rating. Bass control, mid range smoothness and overall definition are, IMHO, surprisingly good at this price level. Subjective power is good and seems to verify the 100w per channel rating. My three sons had a variety of inexpensive receivers when they were growing up and this clearly beats all of them. (admittedly, the MSRP is much higher that the others, but since it''s available for about $200.........) The fan is not a problem in my setup. The receiver sits in a far corner of the bedroom and I only hear a very faint, but not bothersome, sound when nothing is playing. When there is music playing, at any level, I don''t hear it.

Strength:

Sound quality, build quality, A/B speaker switching, sub-out

Weakness:

Cooling fan noise, bland remote

After being sadly disappointed by a NAD C730, I picked this up cheap at uBid, and it has filled the void nicely. There''s plenty of power for my PSB Image 4T''s, and A/B speaker switching and a sub-out connection are 2 welcome bonuses. I completely agree with the first reviewer in that the cooling fan is a big disappointment in a product that otherwise is for my tastes very solid (you do hear the fan during quiet listening). It seems to be solidly built, and for the price I think it''s as good as it gets for 2-channel stereo (sub-$200).

Strength:

Puissance, aucune distortion, basses profondes

Weakness:

Mmmh...

Strength:

Nakamichi name? Nice styling.

Weakness:

Nakamichi products are not as rugged and well made as they used to be.

I cannot endorse a product, especially a Nakamichi (which should be synonymous with great quality products), when it falls short in critical areas. In short, it just does not have enough dynamic swing or reserves to properly power my Magnepan MG12/QRs to acceptable levels without sounding anemic. Just as important, what WAS Nakamichi thinking when they installed a FAN in this thing? I can clearly hear this thing when listening to soft passages in my music, and any audiophile knows that equipment with fans is highly discouraged in an amplifier/receiver due to noise! What''''s the use of buying Nakamichi quality if they ''''undo'''' all the good with some bad in their design? What a joke. I cannot give this product more than 2 stars because of this.

Strength:

As many has stated (Clarity in extreme, Powerful, Low distortion). Has video in?, A+B speakers switching, sub out

Weakness:

Biggest dissapointment is lack of digi i/o (opt nor coax); Finishing (knob, fan)- made in Malaysia?; fan noise (not an issue); r/c uses AAA instead of AA and not universal/programable.

I am giving this baby a 5 stars for sound quality/value BUT I probably will not consider anymore Nakamichi product until they improve convenience/feature (eg. their DVD players don''t have Progressive Scan feature and this receiver which was made a year ago, yet does not have opt/coax i/o) With the exception of 1a1z, the RE10''s stereo mode blows away all my other a/v receiver.

Strength:

More power then you know what to do with! Will drive any speakers with ease.

Weakness:

The bass could be a little less

First, I would like to say I''m in LOVE! I wanted to buy this receiver about a year ago but the nearest Nakamichi dealer was 70+ miles away. Now, understand I wanted to purchase it because of the Nakamichi name but I never listened to the RE10. So I bought a NAD C370 intergrated amp ($599.00), then I purchased the NAD C270 amp ($499.00) as an addition (same power supply, perfect match). The NAD set up is very nice (300 WPC/Bridged Mode) but I''m mad as hell w/ myself for not getting the RE10 then. The NAD is a warmer receiver but not even close in terms of power, even w/ my dual set up. I noticed that the people here have purchased the RE10 at Ubid.com for under $250.00! I jumped to the site & bought not one but two for $174.00 a piece ($209.71 w/ S/H). This is a steal! Even with the heavy handed S/H thru Ubid.com It''s one of the greatest purchase of all time for me. If your reading this I can only hope everyone can get this receiver for themselves. I guess I one of the few people who likes the remote. It''s fine for me but I really only use it for volume adjustment & mute. I understand the "fan" is an issue with some people but I simply can''t hear it, not an issue. Maybe because I listen to my music too loud! The NAK RE10 is a very powerful WPC! I also like the looks of the receiver, very simple & clean looking. My only gripe is the RE10 pushes a little too much bass for my tastes. You''ll never need the loudness switch unless your 20 years old (or younger) & your into Heavy Metal. But that''s why we have tone controls or an EQ might have it''s place. In short, if your looking for a "stereo" receiver then look no further. If you put the RE10 up againist an Onkyo TX-8511 or Yamaha RX-777 the NAK RE10 with win your heart!

Strength:

Great sound, vast musical improvment over my old system.

Weakness:

Yikes, does this fan every shut off?

Great sounding music only system. I can easily hear musical improvments over my older Sony which this receiver has replaced. I have had this receiver for 2 days, and I seem to be having the same experience as a previous reviewer, in that the fan has never shut off. It is quite loud, and this is not an issue to me while music is playing...however, the fan is loud enough to be very bothersome with no music playing. I will have to see if I can live with this over the next few days. Another reviewer stated that the system includes a thermostat...I hope it kicks in soon!

Strength:

Has very good sound quality, and just enought hookups for all my equiptment... I did have to buy a phono preamp. Sound quality is great and has plenty of room fuling sound.

Weakness:

Hummmmm!!! lets see. Remote is not programable. Used another remote that was.

I bought an onyko reciever to replace an old denon. The onyko kept giving me an failure message so I sent it back for trade for the re-10. A far better reciever.
The re-10 has not given me any problems at all, has great sound, good loundness system, plenty of power, fan doesn't bother me at all. What can I say it's very good!!!!
