I like to know where you guys get your prices from? I purchased the DSP-A1 a couple of months ago for $2199.99 brand new, not 2600 not even in gold for that much. Let me start off saying the best amps out now are Denon, Yamaha's, And B&K's, simple, for the price you pay. Notice I said for the price you pay. B&K is the most expensive though, and you don't get what you pay for from B&K like from Denon and Yamaha. So here it is, Yamaha DSP-A1 vs Denon 5700(best two pieces out for price range, no exceptions, this is how it is. Anybody who thinks not for the price and what you get, sorry your wrong. I was a proud owner of a Denon now I have a Yamaha DSP-A1. This is why I bought the Yamaha. Yamaha has enchancements in DD and DTS during movies. Yamahas rears lite up more then the Denons. Since 5.1 is suppose to be equal wattage all around, the Yamaha makes this happen with ease. You here all the speakers working, this is what an amp is suppose to do. Only thing I don't like about Yamaha pieces is they have a brightness sound then most pieces I've heard. I totally adjusted to it though. Now the Denon is a Beast. I'm talking the best balanced pieces out today. Way more balanced then the Yamahas. Denons are tight balanced sound. So if your into movies and want all your speakers to explode, buy the Yamaha. If you want super clean, tight balance sound for music buy the Denon(Five channel rules). The Denon has no brightness, it is flawless except for the rears in movies. You pick from the two. I would like both,Denon for music Yamaha for movies, U LIKE DAT!

For the PRICE it is the best amplifier that you can buy...There is nothing that even comes close. However, word has it that Yamaha will be coming out with A1 replacement sometime in early 2000...

I own both a Yamaha DSP-A1 and a newer Denon 5700. The two units are used in separte home theatres with different BMW Matrix series speakers. Both are outstanding units with somewhat different strengths. I am writng in responce to the number of poor ratings submited by some reviewers. It must be assummed that they have another agendas other than fair comments on equipment. How anyone can give this unit a one or two star rating is unbelievabel. For the money the DSP-A1 is a outstanding unit with the best sound field array in the business.

Jeff,
Saw your post on audioreview. I've got a Yamaha 2095 paired with a set of Klipsch speakers (sw10, 4 KG 5, 1 KV1). I've just purchased a pair of Energy Veritus to use as mains. I "auditioned" both powered and un-powered towers from Klipsch and Definitive and Martin Logan towers.

To me the Klipsch's has a bit of an overdone sound in the high frequencies. The Definitive's sounded somewhat muffled and the Martin Logan's were so clear they did not seem natural. This last comment may seem odd but compared to the Veritus the M-L seemed cold. The sound from the Veritus was warm and clear with a great sound stage.

I'm now looking at picking up a more powerful amp and will probably get the outlawaudio 750 (www.outlawaudio.com) . I'm also planning on getting a Klipsch sw15 sub for home theater. Not quite sure if I should continue to use the Klipsch Center or get an Energy center or maybe a really good B&K. For now I'm planning on continuing to use the Klipsch's for front and back effects.

As for the DSP1, if I had got that unit when I bought the 2095 I would not need to be upgrading my amp now. I'm versy satisfied with the two Yamahas that I have now and think that the DSP 1 is great.

Strength:

# of sound fields and customization

Weakness:

rear speaker volume control

Seems to be a well built unit, must weigh around 60 - 70 lbs. I like having so many different sound fields, even if many of them sound bad to me. My prior receiver is just Pro-logic, so this is a big step up. I couldn't hear a difference between this and similar units from Sony or Denon, and the local store was closing this out (in black) for 1700, so what the heck. Other than not being able to change the volume on the rear speakers independently, this strikes me as quite a nice receiver.

Other components:
Sony dvp7700 dvd
Pioneer m810 cd
Monitor Audio Silver 9 front speakers- Silvers throughout for center/surrounds.

This unit still stands out in the market as the best all in one box home theater solution. What makes it even sweeter is the most recent price drop. It can now be had for only $1849 with a 2 year warranty !!!Awesome build quality, reliability, sound, features and price !!!

I have been looking at the DSP-A1 for about 6 months now before I bought it, and I have tosay it is awesome!! I like many others people on this site don't usually like DSP's when it
comes to music or movies but this unit takes DSP's to another level. With this unit you get
more control of how the sound fields sound in you room and not just delay time. I did not
like the DSP's for normal CD’s very much. I found three out of the 18 DSP's used for music
that I enjoyed using when playing a normal CD. DTS CD’s are what really make the DSP's
shine after playing with the effects and delay controls for everyone I can enjoy a DTS CD’s
in any of the 18 sound modes for music. The 70mm adventure mode is my favorite to use
when playing dvd’s or video tapes. The front effect channel really makes a difference for dvd
movies it adds so much more ambiance to the front sound stage. I also bought a Yamaha
MX-2 amp to boost the front effects to 150watts of power the DSP-A1 only supplies 35watts
to them which is ok but it sound so much better with more power to them. The power on the
amp is incredibly clean and strong I have a pair of definitive BP3000 towers in front with a
definitive center to match and a pair of BP 2002 for my rear channel. My front effects are a
pair of BI-polar BP1x . I have never enjoyed a surround/power amp as much as this unit. I
bought it in the gold finish which is just to classy the build quality is nice and clean the
controls what little there is most of the controls are hidden behind a metal door that drops
slowly when you touch the bottom of it. Before I bought I compared it to a B&K AVR202
which cost just as much but, I did not like it very much I really did not like the remote but I
really did not like the Yamaha remote so I bought a Phillips pronto but, anyway the volume
knob is spring loaded so you have to hold it to the left or to the right to make the sound
change and it is not very fast at doing that. It also has all of the buttons on the unit itself
seated back into the face plate of the unit which makes a little bit harder to use. I was told by
a salesman at Audio Video Systems in charlotte NC, where I saw this unit that it sounds
more powerful than the DSP-A1 which they also sell but I did not hear a difference at all if
anything it made me like the A1 more because it sound a lot cleaner and more open. The
only real advantage that the B&K had over the A1 was the multi-zone capability but I didn’t
need that for that option. Plus I have read at this site to many problems with that amp such as
fan noise, loud buzzing, and gets to hot. I still gave it a look and I saw many reason why
people would buy this unit but, I really think that the A1 is a better unit in comparison
which if you are considering either of these unit make sure that you look and play with them
a lot before you buy. I will stick with my Yamaha DSP-A1

I just received my DSP-A1 black yesterday. I have been frothing at the mouth for 2 months about this unit as I read all the reviews from here and from major HIFI magazines. IT IS AWESOME!!!!
The only negative is the damn remote. I can't seem to run my DENON CD player with it. However for the price I paid for this -- I won't complain.

After 2-day FEDEX charges I paid a TOTAL of $1,699 for this!!!!!!!!!!!

DON'T waste your money at the local HIFI anal outpost. This is laize faire commerce-- BABY!!!! Go to (http://is3.hk.super.net/~indoftco/dspa1.htm) to get the best deal I have seen!!!!!

The only thing to know is:

1. The warranty is not valid in the US (what warranty is worth $600??)

2. You have to take a flat-head screw driver and change the voltage on the back to 120V for the US. (Oh my-- can I handle this??)

The person I dealt with in HK was VERY helpful and very quick. Believe me I did my research before I bought- I even contacted others to see if they truly got what they thought they were buying- and they were all TOTALLY satisfied.

If you buy there, tell them that Mark (from Redford) sent you. Who knows- maybe I'll get even a better deal on somthing else!

OK- time for me to take another day off work to go listen to this amp. I'll leave the technical aspects of this amp to others. I just wanted you all to know what a great deal I got-- I AM VERY VERY VERY HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
