After operating the Yamaha 2095 for six month I decided to upgrade to the DSP-A1. What an incredible difference. I thought I already had a winner in the 2095. For it's money it did me a great service. But this baby (A1) makes my day in more aspects I could even imagine. Pure stereo = pure joy. The DSP modes properly applied are phenomenal. My DSP-A1 is powering and bringing to life a complete complement of NHT speakers (VT-2s, VS-2as, Audio Center 2, SUB 2, and 2 Rock Solids for front effects. I know I am blessed with great acustics (pure luck) but the performance of my system is STELLAR. The blending of all channels, detail and clarity in Digital Sorround and/or DTS is total magic. Technology at it's best. And please, Mozart, Bethoven et al "really" need THX certification. How did the old Masters get along without THX (ultra, standard, ridiculous or sublime)? I am sure glad the technological innovations and quality were not exchanged for Royalty Checks and Labels! Thanks Yamaha (+NHT).

Great sound, the most versatile Receiver out there, the smartest remote 140 watts at 8 ohms and 186 at 4 ohms.
What else you want?

This is the best.

P.S. I'm sorry Kev but the 5700 has the same wattage in al channels.
Dennon 5 speakers, Yamaha 1 speaker.

I think the DSP A1 is a good receiver, sounds good, but I would not say has an excallent sound like the B&K 202 or DENON 5700.
I think that if you want to spend $2300 on it get $300 more and get a better receiver.

I have owned this unit for over one month. I believe I did extensive research before purchasing this product, comparing it to the B&K, and the Sunfire Cinema Grand w/ Sony 9000 es preamp. Of course, a dealers showroom is completely irrelevant, I don't know anyone who lives in one. At the risk of sounding too excited, I truly adore this unit. I paid $1635.00 from Uncles Stereo, and for the money, there is NO WAY I could be happier. Having equal power to the surrounds has been like going to the movies for the first time again! In addition, this thing is QUIET! I don't hear any extra noise whatsoever. The A1 replaced a Sony 800gx es receiver. I don't have high dollar speakers, but it really does seem like everything is new, and sounding great.
The DTS mode is unbelievable. I have taken that rocket ride on Apollo 13 many times now, each time I am amazed. I also go to that Eagles concert everyday. Some people don't like the Dsp modes, but if your'e into it, I don't think anybody else does it like Yamaha. The additional front effect speakers really do make a difference. I will never go to the theaters again!
Music listening is also fantastic. Even my 10 year old sony cd player has been reborn. I am one of those people who like to play with the 42 different modes for each song. If I ever decide I want more power, (which is not even a desire with this thing), I can always add an amp or two. The versatility of this unit was one of the most attractive features for me.
As I said, I don't have high dollar equipment, and I honestly don't care, I am in audio heaven now! My setup is the following: DCM TF600's for L/R- DCM CX007 (front effects) - HTD 61/2 inwall surrounds (Home Theater Direct)- Paradigm CC300 Center channel - Velodyne F1200 sub- RCA 5220 DVD ( cheapest I could find w/DTS, no regrets)- Sony cp350 cd player - teac tapedeck - Mitsubishi VCR - 45" Mitsubishi tv
My HT room is approx - 20'x 18' w/ vaulted ceilings
If this is your price range, buy Yamaha - my experience w/ Uncles Stereo was very positive

The best money can buy up to date. There's NO WAY that one can go wrong with this AMP. I have mine for over a year now and I'm so in love with it that I stay home most of the time now. I don't wanna mention about this YAMAHA Specs & features since enough's being said about this great unit. Own one and I bet your wife/Mom will be glad to see her husband/son home most of the time. I also listen to the 5700. It's a good unit, but for the sound, built quality and price, I prefer the A1. Especially it can be had for $1699. I paid over $2000 for it when it first came out and don't even regret. Believe me, this is an excellent unit that can be enjoyed for a long time. YAMAHA, YOU COMPLETE ME!!!

I have tested both the DSP-A1 and Denon 5700 and have to say that both make me wonder why i spent more than double on separates. Although the denon seems to be much quieter with stereo sound, Im unable to say that the 5700 can match the yamaha with DTS/DD sound. 7.1 does make a difference and i enjoyed the movie experience more with yamaha's dsp.
5 stars to both amps

I've got this A1 for about a year now and I love it:) It has a very good sound and features. I've used DSP mode for my listening and movie at 95%. One other thing I like to mention is the ability to match center channel with the main speakers. This is good when you have mixed brand speakers like I do. I give this five stars for sound, quality and features.
Enjoy your music!

I agree totally with Robert G. If people want a Denon 5700, B&K or Proceed etc. then buy these products and save your reviews for them. To give the Dsp-A1 1 star because you choose another item is crazy (example, I bought a BMW so Mercedes gets 1 star). Rate the components on merit. I think its great that people have different preferences toward music and the equipment that recreates it, but DAMN, USE SOME COMMON SENSE ON YOUR REVIEWS! I have listened to the Denon 5700 and the Marantz SR-18 but I got the Yamaha. I've mine for one month and I am very happy with its preformance, dsp modes and sound levels.I mainly use it for home theater but I think 2 channel music sounds great also. The unit is very flexible and fun to play with. I have Klipsch Quintet speakers with KSW 10 sub. I am thinking of going to an Atlantic Technology system (270 or 450thx) because I've heard such good things about them concerning thier preformance. I wish someone would relate some experiences with these combonations. I am very happy with the Klipsch, but I would like some bigger speakers (the Klipsch get 5 stars for any small room application and they will play loud and clear). I would rate the Denon and Marantz 5 stars but the preformance and price of the Yamaha sold me

After a year of extensive research, both in audio booths and through internet reviews/product info, I have purchased the DSP-A1. I have to admit that I love it. Yes, I compared the Denon 5700... to be quite honest, I had almost considered the Denon on THX alone. It just doesn't compare. There is less distortion on the Yamaha, deeper bass tones (especially for movies), and as much as I hate to use the words... cleaner power. The Yamaha has garbage also, but it is in the non-essentials. I despise 42 DSP's, I wouldn't scar my walls with eyesore front effects speakers, and the remote... don't get me started. I too purchased the A1 for only $1700, and only a fool would complain about that. If the tables were balanced, I have to say that I would go with the Yamaha (even though it's easier to say in retrospect). I truly do think that the A1 is a better piece of equipment. By the way, I know some of you who want to know the equipment, so here it is... Pioneer Elite DVL-91, Mitsubishi 31" dual tuner, RCA S-video VCR (hey, it was cheap), Playstation & N64 S-video, Sony AD3 DSS, Definitive BP2002, Definitive C1B, and Definitive BP1X. Everything looks and sounds beautiful. Someone please find a use for those DSP's though.
