This nice amplifier gives you very clear sound in mid range, the base is really deep and sexy. It's pretty expensive here in europe but it was worth it. I use it with infinity reference 51mk2 's and nakamichi mb4s... best in the price range. if too cheap go for the 2000r which is really really good.

Strength:

Value, MM/MC phono stage

Weakness:

Bit of mosfet mist on top, pitch definition in bass

Not a bad little intergrated for the money. Phono stage is very good given the price range. Above comments should be taken in context with current speakers in the system (Maggie SMGa's - very old and dynamically limited by excellent otherwise). Midrange performance of amp is good thought and that's the most important thing for me. Bass falls apart rather quickly with only 70w through the maggies but listenable up to that point. does not clip hard. soundstage depth somewhat lacking. mosfet mist is apparent to my ears up top, but rather benign and not a reason to pass up the amp. Needs a good 1-2 months to break in, maybe more. Have used mine for 6+ months now and still hear improvements. Recommended for most speakers, especially any you can by in the BIG CHAIN electronics retailers. Shouldn't have a problem unless very difficult impedence/phase angles (ie: Thiels). Don't think the mosfet output stage can throw as much current as a competently designed bi-polar can. Very very good build quality - especially like the twin transformer design and wonder if this contributes to the good soundstage width. Bypassable Bass and Treble (useful for analog playback)

Rest of system:
ProJect 6.1 turntable with Project Cartridge(yeah..pretty mediocre)
Denon 635 CD player (only because the 1500's remote runs it)
Next to El-Cheapo level Tara throughout.

Overall 3 stars only when comparing to amps like Bryston. Probably top 3 in it's price range though.

Cheers...

Strength:

Easy to use. Good combination with my B&W DM 14 Improved. Nice sound.

Weakness:

I used the amplifier only for wone day, so I found no.

I fell for the rig. It is a very easy to use amplifier, also for my girlfriend. She likes also the no nonsence concept of the amp. The sound is very good.

Strength:

Endless warmth! Clear, clean, musical, near to tube amps sound.

Weakness:

Lacks A/B speakers option; Poor remote!

Go and buy! One of the best purchases for reasonable price. I have tested it combined with Bose 301 IV, KEF Coda 10 and B&W DM604. The result was very similar. I consider this amp as one of the best solutions for B&W 604 sharp highs. Other equipment - Philips, Onkyo, Sony CD-s, Jamo and Audioquest P 4 speaker cabels, Audioquest Ruby interconnect cabel. After all,I am curious is there any gain into the bigger brother PMA 2000? I am amazed by it's building. What a can!!! Nightmare for other manufacturer's design teams! Should I swap my 1500 for 2000? Or go back to Rotels (my previous favorites)? What do my HI FI brotherhood think about?

I've listened to it with a couple of B&W DM602 speakers and it sounded really good, but would like to know other's opinion.
One thing that has surprised me is Denon doesn't include the Damping Factor in none of its amplifiers specs...

BTW anyone has opinions about the Yamaha AX-592?

I listened to various amps at this price range. but no amp came even near the PMA1500R. It has very clear and narural sound. It's and amp you can use for all kinds of music and it handles my B&W DM604's good. It's 70 watt's per channel (8 ohm), dual mono setup and UHC Mosfet this is an amp with specifications you would normally expect in the higher price-ranges. Absolutely the best value for money and superb sound.

Strength:

Big, warm soundstage, powerfull bass, great build and design

Weakness:

You can´t change the inputs on the remote. Denon find random and repeat buttoms more important than search buttoms (CD) on the remote.

I´ve been looking for a 1500R for a long time and finally i´ve got one second hand for only 300$. It replaced my old Audiolab 8000S amp, which i found harsh in the treble and generelly has a clinical sound. The Denon has an uncomplicated sound with no remarkable poor sides and it´s easy to live with. Together with my Denon DCD-3000 cdplayer and Kimber PBJ interconnects it´s a good combination. Only four stars because of the hobeless remote.

Strength:

Solid, clear sound. Sounds great with all kinds of music, rock to classical - but excels at that nice airy jazz-club feel (ie George Michael's Older CD) Looks cool in gold!!!

Weakness:

No main-in (therefore discounting HT use?). Remote has tape/tuner/cd controls, but only works with Denon stuff...

Well, needed new amp solution to go with Klipsh RF-3's and Yamaha 15inch sub. Listened to Sony, Yamaha, NAD's...

Was using HT receiver as amp - UNLESS YOUR RECEIVER IS WORTH 000's, THIS IS ABOLUTELY STUPIED!!! There is no comparision with the sound you get from a dedicated AMP vs. a receiver - full stop. Since I listen to more music than movies, I've shelved my HT asparations in exchange for better sounding music now. And boy, have I made the right choice!!!

The sound? Full and Solid. Has great depth - seems to warm up my speakers, which can get a little bright from time to time. The amp itself doesn't get too hot. Is damn heavy though (14kg I think...), but you only have to carry it once ;)

Was going to buy AVR1800/2800 - but just sound awful for music. This amp however makes my RF-3's come alive. And is VERY loud... This amp has a loud switch, which sounds great at low volumes, but blurs after the first third of the dial. Don't know why they didn't make this switch roll-back sooner (maybe my speakers are too sensitive @98), but this means I'm using this switch a lot, which is a bit annoying. Theres a direct switch also, which bi-passes the treble/bass controls - but doesn't seem to make much difference to music quality.

Bi-Wiring is what this amp was built for - theres two sets of connectors (big & chunky with plenty of room), but no A/B switch, which is fine as long as you don't have 2 sets of speakers!

Gold finish is very classey IMO - but a bit more distiction of the volume line would have been nice (theres just a groove in the nob...) - using the remote on volume jumps a fraction, which can make getting the perfect volume hard late at night, but once again, that might just be with my speakers.

When the time comes to buy AVR2800 for HT down the track, I'll have the best of both worlds! As mentioned above, theres no main-in, so I think my music/HT systems may have be seperate, which is OK, given the huge benefit in music quality.

Overall, sounds and looks better than the competition in my current price range. NAD was closest, but a bit too boomey IMO. (looks homemade too!). The Denon does what it's designed to do, and does it best - but does nothing else. But thats why I brought it!

Strength:

Knows how to put out a 3D soundstage really deep in all frequenties. Can go very loud with differt types of speakers. Build to go on forever.

Weakness:

The rest of your system must of a good quality or even better quality before it show it's true colors.

This Denon amplifier is not the most detailed amplifier around also depending on the rest of your hifisystem but at this price range it's surely the one who can set up a solid soundstage in your room with ease and with every type of music, if it is jazz, funk or even classical music the Denon does the job. It will never sound edgy or fragile like some more detailed amplifiers do. It's bass and midrang is powerfull, very deep and very clean but never to strong. So if you like differd types of music this amplifier is the one you need. Try it with a Sonic Link "Silver Pink" interconnect, this can really open up the sound.
