Strength:

Value for money man, very hard to beat. Very accurate reproduction. Awesome power. Looks tough.

Weakness:

Very few, compared to more expensive products a bit thin in the upper mids, but this can be partially attributed to colouration of other amps.

When looking for a new amplifier to replace my dated and underpowered NAD 3020i intergrated amp, I listened to every thing available under $2000 ($900 US, this price also had to include a preamp)at the 2 closest HIFI stores to my town. Brands included were Cambridge, Rotel, other NAD prodcts, BOSE(laugh) and the list goes on. I even listened to some used equipment with very good reputations. All comparisons were done with my own system right down to interconnects and speaker cable. Listening to the NAD 216 through my Paradygm monitor series speaker I found it to be easily the best performer across the sound spectrum and with power to burn. Reproduction is very accurate and with no colouration as experienced with some other brands. The Nad also performs very well at all power settings unlike others that require to be cranked to insane levels to really start sounding good. I have also compared this product to my fathers QUAD 405 an extremely highly acclaimed product in its day and still well respected. Suprisingly it stacked up quite nicely, noticably not as full through his much more expensive Proac speakers but actually better through my paradygms. Not much in it at all. All in all I am rapt with my purchase. I have no doubt there may be better a few better products (very few) in the price range depending on your application but to one reviewer who said there were many better, wind your head in pal, that's just ignorance, arrogance or stupidity. The years of experience of those who have written good reviews far outway those of the bad and we're not all idiots. In short I think you cant really go wrong with this product or it's big brother the 218THX.

Strength:

Good subwoofer handling ability. Price/quality value is superb.

Weakness:

None

I was looking for a subwooferamp and I was sure that the NAD 216THX should do the job better than any other manufacturers amp at this price range. The woofer has two Cerwin Vega Line 12" woofers and they are coupled to 8 ohms. The bass is accurate, well controlled and wery punchy. I haven't tried it with spekers yet, but i'm going to use it with Dali Evidence 870 speakers in the future and i'll write a new review then.

Strength:

A lot of power for the money (350$ in Norway retail)
Build quality is acceptable

Weakness:

Sound quality is worse than one could expect

I bought the NAD for my first hi-fi application, and i was quite happy with it until i tried the Rotel RB985thx. This is a 5*100w amp, and the sound is much, much better than the sound of the NAD. The Norwegian importers/retailers (HiFiKlubben) agree that this is probably the worst product soundwise NAD have ever made! Still, a surprising number of people buy it because thay havent heard Rotel, they need cheap power for their Cerwin Vegas, or something like that. The 6*70w from Rotel at the same price is better! (Because the bass is a little bit better and it gives 4 more channels!) I give it a flattering 3 for value because it can drive Vegas for a cheap price. Dont buy it if youre looking for sound that wont tire your ears!

The NAD 216 is a great amp for the money: plenty of power, a natural sounding midrange, and great bass response, but get this: I think the NAD 214 is a better sounding amp in all respects, and costs $250.00 less. Take my word for it. : )

There sure IS something funny going on here,I cannot imagine a THX certified amp pushing out 125 wpc and selling at such a reasonable price getting so many one star reviews.
For the 340 dollars I have paid brand new, I can only give 5 stars for value and 4.5 stars for performance.

Strength:

Warm sound, strong curret output. Will drive any speaker.

Weakness:

Slightly colored sound, but I like it.

This dead end of audioreview is totally screwed up. This IS a good product, but it seems like there is a war going on here between pro-NAD´s and con-NAD´s. It cannot be awarded a one or two star rating in any case, it´s a lot better than that. I can accept a three star rating if you really cannot cope with the sound character, or if you´re really picky. Five stars seems also akward, there are better power amplifiers around, even though I strongly doubt that you will find one with a better relation power/Sound quality/price.

Strength:

Powerful....
Crystal clear vocals and high
Sweet mid with a touch of warm
Bridgable, endless power
I actually took out the casing and inspected the capacitor. I can tell you, the transfomer itself is hugh with lots of reserve power to kick ass. Well layed out with fine workmanship. Nad had gone a long way and seeing much higher quality production rolling out of its China plant.

Weakness:

Heavy beast at 32lbs
1 set of speaker o/p.
Out of Production
Need long run in time, mine took 2 weeks, thereafter, is a undoubtly superb sounding machine.

Audition for almost 6 months before I came across the Nad 216 THX and it’s bigger brother Nad 218 THX. Prior to that, had heard many set up from various dealers, fellow hifi craze and hifi exhibition. Wasn’t really impressed by its looks until I put in my favorite CD. It was astonishing to find the amp hitting the right note all the time. Vocals was surprisingly crystal clear with the genuine feminine touch that glides smoothly and sexy too. Bass was well extended, tight as expected and makes drum sounded so real, so clean and vibrant. I discover the amp to be slightly harsh when purchased new compared to the showroom piece, perhaps had gone through thousands of hours. However, after putting it to use and left on for days, almost 2 weeks to be exact. This baby is ready to sing. Harshness that was previously noted was no where to be heard again. I wasn’t convinced, tested several CDs and my favorite radio station that I found the harshest of all initially. Also, is not a fussy amp. Matching of other components is easy and works very well. I was sold. Really gone and is so smooth and coherent that I bought another 216 to bridge !!! One of the best combos at this price. The 218THX is great too but at double the price, might as well get another 216 to drive you mad. Of course, better are found but surely not at this price. Heard set up ranging from US$2000-10000 and this baby is as close as those great set up but at a fraction of the price. Great buy used as new is no longer available.

Strength:

plenty of power, good cooling capability

Weakness:

a little harsh @ extreme volumes,(but is it the amps fault?)

I feel that this is a decent amp for the money-by no means the best, but quite decent. I've had the amp for almost a year now with zero problems, and I probably use it an average of 10 hours a week. when I first hooked it up to my existing system,(an nad cd player and an nad receiver using the pre out jacks), I was not all that impressed with the sound quality. So, to give it a chance, I purchaced a new pre-amp, (cambridge audio c-500). Huge differance over my tired 12 year old nad. But all was still not well. Then I got a new cd player, (cambridge audio d-500), and everything came together. The vocals moved two feet behind the speakers, the base vibrates your internal organs and the highs can almost shatter glass. So if your really negative about this amp I think the rest of your gear needs serious consideration before you drop the ax.
