For the money.....the RX-V995 is the best receiver I have heard. I first bought the Harmon Kardon AVR 65 ($1,650.00 Can.) and wasn't really happy with the sound . To me it sounded OK, but I was expecting more. After doing some research on the web and reading the reviews on this site I decided to try the Yamaha RX-V995 ($1,200.00 Can.). It blew away the HK AVR 65. The sound has so much more life to it and it fills the room with sound, including the rear channels with movies, which I found lacking with the AVR65. I listened to Onkyo, Dennon and Marrantz before buying the Yamaha, and I would recommend Yamaha to anyone who wants good value for the money. This unit has so much power and kick to it, I'm thinking that I could have gone with the RX-V795 with 80 watts per channel and that would have been plenty of power for me. The RX-V995 is rated at 100 watts per channel, but I think its under rated. But if you like to listen to movies at full thottle speakers blasting, with clean sound, this is the unit for you.

I just upgraded my Stereo over the last two months and I would honestly say it was not an audio system till I got this reciever. I bought it at Unclestereo.com. They were great I would highly recommend them. I got it in prefect working order in 5 days :). The sound from my Infinity 225s and 115's for rears is amazing . Just watch Matrix on DVD and you will understand. Highly recommended. Yamaha is the best.

Strength:

Price for a DD/DTS reciever

Weakness:

Amp has difficulty with inefficient speakers. Remote

I chose the Yamaha because it was the least expensive reciever that I ran across that contained both DD/DTS. In general, the reciever does everything as advertised. For movies I have no complaints at all. I am not as critical with "audio for video" as I am for straight music. I own a rather large set of speakers with a complex 6 ohm load. The 100W amplifiers have a difficult time with this load. I will probally buy a new set of speakers and use the Yamaha in my home theater set-up, then use my current speakers in a different room for a dedicated 2ch music system. Also, the remote is unneccessarily complicated. There was a time in my life when I would sit down and spend hours programing and learning a remote, but not anymore. All I use it for is on/off, changing inputs, and volume. This huge 2 pound remote with about about 50 buttons and switches is certainly overkill for me.

This Yamaha receiver provides virtually all of the functionality of the V2095 receiver at a much better price point. It provides ample power (100 watts/ch), Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, five channel input for future support and many other features. It is a solid receiver and has very good reproduction. You really need to listen to this in action to see what it can do.

The things that I would like improved on this unit is the remote and the multi-room functionality. The universal remote is kind of klunky and is in need of a better design. The multi-room functionality appears to have been added just to say that it is included, but can not be used very effectively. There isn't a separate remote to operate from the second room and input selection cannot be changed via the remote. However, I think these are minor issues and not what I bought the receiver for.

Strength:

Excellent Music Sound and Home Theater quality .The FM is also clear and the reception is good .The built and looks is good .There is also a lot DSPs which i find quite fun and it also adds enjoyment to mine listening pleasure . The setup was also quite easy .

Weakness:

The remote looks a bit bulky , even mine girlfriend Si said so .There is no light on the remote and it can be quite fustrating at night if you wanted to change the fuction or the settings .

I have just bought the receiver for a couple of weeks ago .I find this receiver sound great and can handled any CDs and DVDs with ease . There is also a lot of DSPs which I can use. However I was a bit confuse as I am not quite familiar with the settings and the DSPs .Could someone enlighten me about how to do with the settings and the DSPs which will produce the best possible sounds. Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great sound. Lots of inputs. The remote is hard to use, and the memory is very limited.

Compare this one with Denon and Sony. I picked Yamaha because I think it sounds better and has more features.

Strength:

sound is very clean, low noise, powerful, great DSPs

Weakness:

remote sucks, but who cares

I really like the sound from this receiver. Some people think Yahama is too bright. But I like it this way. I am actually using it with the also supposedly bright Energy speakers(E:XL26)

Strength:

Clear powerfull amps, Great Dependability Record,Some usefull DSP modes.

Weakness:

Remote can be hard to use.

I have owned this unit for 8 months. Compared to my previous H/K units the Yamaha offered a clearer dialog from movie soundtracks. I noticed this right away. DD steering was also smoother. The amp is quieter than I thought was possible for such a low price. As you can see I used to be a H/K fan, but after having problems with the Avr65 I reluctantly tried a Yamaha based on dealer recomendations. Im very happy with my purchase and would recomend this unit.
