Hi Experts!
I just purchased the Yamaha Rx-V995 and Infinity Overture3 for front speakers,
RS3 for rear, and CC3 for center channel.

When listen to the hi-fi tape, the rear speakers sound not loud enough like
the front speakers. I do not know what it supposed to be since this is a first
time I had the surround system. Can anyone give me an idea?

I checked the setup and all of them had been set to "large" at the Yamaha.

Thanks a lot.
-Kevin-

I bought mine today for $735.00 from a local retailer. It was not a demo model. I can't wait to hook it up to my Energy 28Ps.

I have been in limbo between the Yamaha RX-V995 and the Sony 50ES. Does anyone who owns either of these receivers have any recommendations. And also where I can get either one under $1000.

I compared this to the Sony and went with the 50ES. A major concern that no one has mentioned is the Yamaha does noy have 24bit 96khz. The Yamaha is still old fashioned 20 bit 48khz.

I bought this unit about two months ago. I had orginally been undecided between this unit and the Sone ES line of receivers. I had orginally been leaning towards the Sony ES line because of the "better integration" it would have with my Sony TV, DVD, and VCR. However, after auditioning both brands it became clear that the Yamaha was significantly better than the Sony ES in almost every aspect. The soundfields actually add to the listening experience and sound much more lifelike and vibrant than that of other models. They are also fully adjustable. The amp has plenty of power with very low distorition. Every video input includes S-Video inputs. There are plenty of digital inputs plus one digital output. The inclusion of 5.1 input jacks on the back was a nice added bonus considering the unit already has the DD and DTS decoding. The built in Dolby Digital Decoding is flawless. It is much better than the decoding done by the decoder chip built into my Sony DVP-S530 DVD player. There is a "problem", however, with its DTS decoding. I have researched this with both DTS technical support and Yamaha support and it seems that there is an incompatibility between the DTS software that is used to encode the bitstream and the Yamaha DTS hardware that decodes the bitstream. Yamaha has blamed DTS for this problem and DTS has blamed Yamaha but the bottom line is that DTS has now corrected their software to be compatible with the Yamaha Decoder so all future DTS releases should work flawlessly with the Yamaha. If you have a DTS DVD that does not work, please call Yamaha and they will send you a replacement disk. They are working very hard to keep customers happy which is more than I can say about Sony and their customer support. The only other minor complaint I have with the unit is the small learning capacity of the remote. Yamaha has also addressed this issue and will be replacing the remote comtroller with a new one with twice the memory in June. Current owners can get this "upgraded" remote in June for a small shipping/handling charge. All in all, the Yamaha 995 offers a tremenous amount of features and high quality at a relatively low price. Additionally, Yamaha's customer service and technical support was extremly helpful and well trained. I would highly recommend this unit.

SOMEONE, PLEASE HELP! I have big dilemma.I have decide to buy AV Receiver.Right now, I`m deceiding between the Yamaha RX-V795 and the Sony STR-DB925.
I can find them both for about the same amount of money.
I haven`t listened RX-V795 neither STR-DB925, but I read a lot.I think that
Sony`s advantages is:
-multichannel parametric equaliser
-parameters for the position and relative height of the speakers and other
useful settings to get the sound just right (wall type,....)
I don`t know how those AV Receivers sounds in stereo mode (Hi-Fi) without
center and rear speakers. This is also important because I want use AV
Receiver in this mode.I love SOFT and CLEAR sound.Who`s the best in this
field, Sony or Yamaha?

P.S.I think that Sony gives more than Yamaha.Which speakers are
better for me ,Jamo series "classic" or B&W series "600"?

Please e-mail me at krako69@hotmail.com

I need some info on the RX-V995 I need to know where online I can buy this reciever. The cheapest online store. I went to a few local dealers here and they all had them for a $1000. I see some of you people have bought it for a few dollars cheaper. Please email me with your suggestions. I am giving this 5 speakers because I love Yamaha to death!

I just picked up the Yamaha over the weekend. Considering the price, I don't believe you can find a better receiver. I did considerable research before selecting this particular model. I base my decision on three key areas: 1. Stereo performance for music.
2. Home Theater performance for movies.
3. Convinience of the package.

Music - After setting up the connections, I began playing various discs to test the fidelity of the receiver. I was very pleased. The sound was very clean and discrete. I picked up all the subtleties of the instruments in the background. Another very impressive feature was the power of the amp. Setting the dial on 3 surpassed what my old receiver can produce with the dial set to 5. My Energy Take 5 finally sounds as good as advertised. I was in music heaven. My cd collection never sounded better. All the DSP modes are fun to play with, but leave me with a pure signal and I'm more than happy.

Home Theater - Along with the receiver, I picked up a monster optical cable for my DVD player (didn't have a single digital connection on my last rig). Maybe because Dolby Digital is new to me, but when I saw the receiver auto switch between surround modes, I was totally impressed. I couldn't believe how much better the sound was when I watched a movie in DD. To all you non believers- BELIEVE IT!!! I'm sure I'll order a DTS movie shortly to test out the DTS decoder on this unit.

Convenience - This receiver has it all. Every video connector has a s-video connection. This is 1999 so anything with out this is considered obsolete to me. Did you say digital? The Yamaha allows you to connect till your hearts content -DVD, MD, LD, and CD. Even the camcorder connection has a s-video connector. All speaker post are high quality bind post. Very high quality.

Disappointment - The remote is a major disappointment. I knew this package couldn't be perfect. This is, by far, the worst remote I've ever used. I remember the legacy Sony remotes be hideous, but this takes the cake. The remote is only usable with two hands! Yamaha needs to fire the whole remote control staff and hire some new talent. Not only is it not fun to use, it's also not intuitive. I've been trying to have it "learn" for 2 days now without any luck. Big thumbs down from me on the remote.

In closing, I would like to sing the virtues of the receiver and re-enforce my hatred for the remote. My advice to my fellow Audio Enthusiast - buy this receiver and replace the remote the first chance you get. I'm already eyeing the Marantz MK2200. My verdict for the receiver: 5 The remote: 1 (That's only because it turn the receiver on and adjust the volume)

I did a lot of reasearch before purchasing this reciever. I have had it for 2 months. No problems, played DVD's, music and I have enjoyed this reciever. I do think the remote needs some work. One thing I would like to say, for the money this a great reciever to get into the Home theater arena. Dolby digital, DTS, and plenty of inputs make it a super deal. Is it the best out there, no, but in this price range, and everthing this reciever comes with, I highly recommend this unit.
