Just got my 995 from Uncle's Stereo. Jimmy was a pleasure to work with(for more on that, see www.excelsis.com under mail order). Had been eagerly anticipating this unit because I had tried the RX-V795 and loved the sound and features, but wasn't enough umphh in the amp section to push ny 4ohm Legacy Classics. So now I own the RX-V995 and I can still occasionally "clip" the unit off with a couple of tracks, but this occurs rarely enough that I still feel that it is worth my $$$. I listen with tone controls "flat" with no bass extension(or Loudness compensation). I can't seem to tell any difference between the ohm settings on the rear of the unit. The track that really gets it is "Chitlins Con Carne" from the Stevie Ray Vaughn cd THE SKY IS CRYING. Must be some pretty low bass. Have watched 2 dvd movies already, and love it for this purpose. Had to drop the rating to a 4 simply because the amp still isn't quite stout enough for my Legacy Classics. I bought this unit knowing that if I encountered the aforementioned problem, the line level "Main Outs" will allow me to get an external amp. Would highly recommend this one. Especially with 8ohm speakers

I upgraded to the rx-v995 from the rx-v795 and must say that you really get your moneys worth.EXCELLENT RECEIVER!!!
It has everything you really need for now and in the future.Who will ask for anything more.
QUESTION: Is this receiver "top-of-the-line"like the Yamaha
website considers it to be .
There are critics who say that the 2095 is, instead .
Isn't the 2095 a"FLAGSHIP" RECEIVER whatever that means?

I purchased this receiver last week, and think it should meet all my present and future needs. After reading the majority of the reviews on receivers from this site and on the Home Theater Magazine site, I decided on this receiver. The receivers strong points are the AC-3 and DTS decoders, all the inputs and outputs including S-Video that you'll ever need, and an additional input for a future 5.1 decoder, and plenty of power at 100 watts. My only complaint is with the remote control: it's to large and the directions are unclear and complicated for learning other remotes.
I purchased this unit from an Authorized Yamaha dealership (Myer Emco) for $899, the selling price was full retail, but I was able to negotiate the price down. It's worth it to me to pay a little more and know that I'm getting a unit that's brand new, and that the warranty is valid. To me this is the most complete receiver on the market. I'd give it 4 stars considering the remote, but for value, I have to give it 5.

Hey Guys, I know that all of my fellow RX-V995 owners are going to hate me for this but I picked up one of these beauties last night from the WIZ for a whopping $695.00. I know that sounds incredible, but through alot of haggling and the return of a RX-V795 which I only paid 535 dollars for, the difference that I gladly paid was only 160 bucks. Kudos to my sales person!!
Enough about that... The 995 seems to be a far supereior receiver in terms of flexibility and and power. I am now able to use several s-video inputs unlike the 795 with absolutely no hassle. Better connectors are used(Binding Posts) for the rear and center channels wrather than the cheap push-in clips on the 795. Trying to shove 12 gauge wire into those clips was like trying to push an elephant through a garden hose(for lack of better words).

The 100watt amp does an incredible job driving my Klipsch 10.5's and 1.1's rendering very clear and bright highs and warm/tight lows. Also, the Signal that is sent to my JBL DSW112 Subwoofer is very clean. The multiple sound fields are incredible and very useable. The remote looks like it's going to take a few study sessions to complteley figure out, and although it would have been nice for Yamaha to pre-Program some other maufactures codes into the remote, this remote seems to have more flexibility with it learning capabilities. I guess Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was the perfect remote. Tip: use the remote lables packed with receiver to remind you of which functions you programmmed into each button, at least until you are comfortable with the remote.

Well, happy would be an understatement to describe how I feel about the RX-V995, and until I become a BIG Willy like my older and wiser brother Vaughn who is the proud owner of one of Yamaha's best receivers to date, the flagship RX-V2095, my 995 will have to do... Enjoy Guys&Gals.......

I add my encouragement to call Yamaha and voice your complaint about the remote! [Phone number (714) 522-9105 and ask for support for receivers] The rep who answered the phone said that it was very unusual for Japan to ask for callers' name and phone number so it's clear they're getting the message and intend to make it right. BTW: does the remote remind anyone else of those plastic TV remotes of the late 50's?
Also, Good Guys is very reluctant to discount the Yamaha line so it was good that a few people posted the price they were able to get from them. I took that info to Good Guys in Hayward, CA and they lowered their price.

The 5th star is missing only because of the remote.

I just scored the Yamaha RX-V 995 after extensively reviewing the Denon AVR 3200, Sony 50 ES and Marantz 665, all in the $1000 range. The main reasons I purchsed the Yamaha over the Sony was the lack of 6 channel inputs. I actually thought the Sony sounded better though. The Marantz was solid but lacked some key features including 6 channel inputs. I liked the Denon however it lacked DTS, however with DTS on the ropes, I don't know if this will matter. Overall I am satisfied with the initial performance of this unit.

Just bought the Yamaha about 2 weeks ago from a local authorized dealer for $850. The Wiz was selling the unit for $1000. The sound is fantastic. I'm using Klipsch Quintets and a Velodyne CT100 subwoofer. The one con about the Yamaha is the remote which is very weird looking, but trust me...you'll like this unit. I'm waiting for the Toshiba sd3109 or sony DVP-s7700 dvd players, but I'm not sure which one I want to get and how much money to spend. Feel free to email me with any questions.

I picked up the RX-V995 from Uncle's Stereo for $799 delivered. Andrew Kent is a great person to work with - he seems like a legit guy that will tell it like it is and stand behind the sale if there are any problems. To me saving the tax, the low price, and the remote possibility of having to use the "in house" warranty are well worth the money that I saved. I received a factory sealed brand new unit. If your looking to save some money and get an incredible product this may be the way to go. I am going to run my unit with a complete speaker setup from Cambridge Soundworks, including The Towers, The Surround 5.1's, The Center Stage, and the Powered Subwoofer. I have some other Cambridge Soundworks Speaker products and am very very impressed with them. I haven't received the speakers yet but when I do I'll write another review. If anyone else has used Cambridge Soundworks speakers please let me know your opinion of them. I am also a curious to know if this unit has enough power to push these speakers well. As far as the RX-V995 I think everyone knows by know that its the best "bang for the buck". The remote could be better but overall its a definite five star product.

I sent Yamaha an e-mail about getting an RXV-995 from one of the "Discount" dealers via mail order, and also asked them about the poor reviews of the remote control. This is the reply from Yamaha:"The dealers that sell this unit (such as (deleted)) are not authorized, and they do not get their products from Yamaha USA. They could be selling overseas models not designed for US operation, or freight salvaged units. Who really knows??? We do not stock parts in this country for overseas models, and of course there is no Yamaha warranty with that product. As for the remote issue, there has been a slight reduction in the memory capacity. We are working with the factory to resolve this issue. You might wish to check back with us in about a month or so..."
