Great sound,preouts

Weakness:

At this price Please........

I give this product a five star rating because you get a lot for your money the bang for the buck. The asking price for this receiver is 499 and it's a great deal at that price. You get 75 wpc, prologic II, 6channel stero, 6.1 surround, dts es, 6 channel imput for dvd audio or super audio, dolby digital ex, preouts for external power and Yamaha's Top Art Design which is yamaha's best internal circuit parts for handling lots of power normally found on the high end yamaha units. This unit also comes with the processor as the higher end units. The preouts the was the icying on the cake for me becuse I already have a Rotel power amp rated at a 150 wpc to pump this bad boy. Bottom line you get a hell of a preamp for 499 dollars.

Strength:

SOUND QUALITY SOUND QUALITY SOUND QUALITY PRICE Remote Easy of operation Number of inputs Banana plug speaker outputs.

Weakness:

The unit just has 1 Digital Coaxial input. I have 2 components with just Digital Coaxial and analog outputs. Display could be brighter Should have the bass boost feature the previous Yamaha line had.

I have had Yamaha and Denon receivers in the past and they were my favorites. I alway liked the mid/high end of a Yamaha but my last unit in the 80's was a little harsh. My wife LOVES Denon receivers, so when I bought this home she was disappointed until I played it. This receiver is SUPER EXCELLENT! I had a Denon AVR 3000 Dolby ProLogic which was top of the line $1000+ 1995 receiver with astounding sound. Loved it so much I resisted getting a replacement for it until last week when a work mate convinced me to experience the sonic difference of Dolby Digital. What a wonderful deceision. I A/B'd it with the Denon and found that the Yamaha was significantly clearer in the mid/high range (without any harshness)and matched the Denon's bass response. MY WIFE LOVED IT!! The Jazz mode is simply amazing for the richness it adds to the sound (I reduced the delay of this mode from 30ms to 13-15ms). A real pleasure to listen to this unit. The FM reception is better than ever before. MP3 sound excellent. Everything is just CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN. Any hiss is virtually non existent. The Dolby Digital is excellent also. I actually found the remote more user friendly than most, thanks to the positioning and size of the Volume Control. Also when you select an input (cd,vcr, etc) it changes the remote to operate that component (if programmed to do so). YAMAHA RULES!!!

Strength:

Sound and value for money.

Weakness:

remote keys are too small and close. Also my toshiba DVD doesnot operate well as well as my RCA tv with this remote.

After doing lot of research I bought 5560 for mere 329$. We have a old sony prologic receiver with bose speakers. I bought Jensen ccs center channel and home theater package for Htr5560 and to the surprise it beats hell out of sony and bose combination. Overall this is the best receiver for it's price and features.

Strength:

Outstanding detail sound from dvd's. 6 channel stero, prologic ll and 2 channel are great sounding with music considering multi channel amps are not that great with music. Bang for the buccccc.

Weakness:

You can not find any at this price

For 350 bucs you can't beat this reciever. at most stores it cost 500, but if you have the gift to gab you'll get the price down like I did ,but dont't feel bad if you paid 500 , because it's worth it. I had the RX-V 596 that sounded great with movies but terrible with cd's the worst sounding thing I've heard with music. The 5560 is great with both music and movies plus it has DTS-ES, DD-EX , Prologic ll and 6 channel stero. The Yamaha RX-V 596 had none of these features and sold for the same price. HK , Onkyo, denon and Marantz offer the same features at a much higher price 2 or 3 hundred more at 50 to 60 WPC High current, But at 75 WPC with Yamaha you get the bang for the buc no doubt plus you get preouts for five channels. I use a Rotel RMB 1075 Ultra THX five channel power amp 120 WPC , but rated at 140 or 150 high current and the Yamaha is a awsom pre-amp for the going price 500 dollars. I connect my rear center speaker directly to my Yamaha since I only have a 5 channel power amp which is more than enough power for just a center channel.

Strength:

Many inputs and outputs. I could finally hook my soundcard by using optical in of the receiver. Awesomely clear sound on my Infinity CC-3 center speaker. More than enough power to fill the room of 26 by 80 feet church social hall. DTS-ES 6.1 and of course the Dolby Pro Logic II! So buy it, if the price of this equipment is less than 350 USD!

Weakness:

None. It's perfect for my use! I use it for home theater, PC games and Music!

I bought this receiver about 3 to 4 months ago. I have no complains, and I don't have much time to write a receiver, but I do have a question. Is this receiver Dolby Digital 6.1 and Dolby Digital 6.1 EX ready? I know DTS-ES 6.1 ready. The sound of watching Gladiator and Ultimate Edition Terminator 2 on DTS-ES 6.1 mode really made me love the sound format of DTS! Please e-mail me if anyone know the answer or just post it here! Thanks!

Strength:

Sound Quality. Digital Audio auto detect when using a DVD with it. Power to each speaker is plenty enough to get the room filled.

Weakness:

The manual could be a little better on connecting components for the average user. They need to give more examples on connecting all your neat devices to it.

The Yahama 5560 replaced an outdated Sony, which was the first Sony to have Pro Logic in it. The sound reproduction is 1st quality, as is all Yahama equip. The DTS-ES mode (6.1) on movies like Gladiator is just like being in the scene. I am more than satisfied my this receiver. Setup: *Yamaha 5560 *JBL Northridge II Surrounds with Added Center for rear center *Klipsch KSW12 Sub *Sony T65 DBS Satellite Receiver *Sony DVD 5 disc carousel *Yamaha EQ-50 Equalizer

Strength:

The remote is nice looking and easy to use. It is also a universal remote so it should work with your DVD player and Cd player. It is a true 80-watt reciever which means it is better than those other recievers that say they put out 100 watts or more. For the most part, those other recievers will onlt put out short peaks of 100 watts. On the other hand, this Yamaha has a 60 piece amplifier and is a true 80 reciever, which is more power than you actually need. The amplifier and equilizer are great sounding and offer crystal clear sound reproduction.

Weakness:

No weaknesses at all. Some people may say that it only puts out 80 watts, but if you do your research on Yamaha recievers, you will find out that is sufficient.

This is by far the best reciever for the money that I have seen. It has more features than I will ever need. It has front hook-ups for S-video, rca video/audio and an optical jack. It also has many more of these jacks on the back, including high bandwidth component video jacks.

Weakness:

B channel power 6 channel total power dsp's (I hate everyones though)

After reading other reviews and being a Yamaha fan, I decided to pull the trigger. I was very unhappy with my Onkyo tx-sr600 purchase (my 595 blew it away) so I went on the hunt for the best 6 channel amp. I must say the HTR-5560 is a great performer, still a little under powered but for less then $350 NO COMPLAINTS! The only thing I really diddnt like was the B channel. Unlike Onkyo, you must put A in stereo to really use the B. I bought an An external amp for my patio and now life is great. Wonderful av receiver, enjoy
