Strength:

Big headroom, awesome DD and DTS performance, gold finish, high-end built quality.

Weakness:

No sub-out in VGCA mode, no pre-outs.

I''ve had it for more than a year and I''m still very impressed by the looks and the quality of this receiver. This is the latest audio equpiment I bought, and currently it is sitting in my dorm room. All my friends say that I have the best sounding system in the campus dorms(100% bragging right!), believe it or not? I can crank this baby so loud that you can hear the music from more than two blocks. Before college my system was in my bedroom, which happens to be big enough for my five JBL Northridge speakers to accurately cast a soundsatge for music and home theater. Yep, this receiver is awesome for the money. Go out and get one, you won''t be dissappointed.

Strength:

Sound, design, looks.

Weakness:

Remote is a ''bit'' cheesy. Also runs very hot but have had no problems. Although this could be a plus if your stove or toaster broke down. Simply lay one piece of bread on top of the unit, then a slice of cheese, next the egg and finally the top slice of bread. Cook for 2-4 min on each side and VOILA! There, this unit even cooks for you!

Very nice sounding unit. Have not had a single problem with it. Use it for everything, regular cable, dvd video/audio, mp3''s, cd''s, and radio. I use this unit with the NHT ST4 speakers which are totaly amazing. I have friends who have paid over $10,000 and they even dont sound $500 better. Buy this, you''ll be very satisfied.

Strength:

Power,champagne/golden finish ,DD/DTS,clarity!

Weakness:

Remote is a slight weakness, heat, but is expected from a high current amp.

I must say, after going through many receivers in my lifetime, I have finally found the "ONE"! This receiver produces superb clarity even at high volumes. In DTS mode, I am only able to turn the volume to 1/2 before my ears explode! Has huge power reserves. Other receivers like this claim to have 100X5 watts RMS per channel, but to that I say "HAH"! I never thought I would find such a powerful unit under $300. Receiver is far better and powerful than I imagined! I recommend this receiver to anyone!

This is a follow up to my original review posted back in april, 2001! I am sorry to here a couple of people have had problems with their unit! I have had my unit for almost one year now, and have had 0 problems with the unit! Again,I have gone through a lot of stereo gear over the years! And, I looked long and hard, for a A/V unit that would give music the same treatment as movies! I tried just about every A/V receiver out there! I found two receivers that give more than a taste of high end audio sound, the Outlaw 1050 and the technics SA-DA10! At least to my ears! I can always tell when a unit provides pleasure on music simply by the amount of use it has! This is true for most people although they may not be aware, that after the newness wares off, they dont listen to music as much as they did when they first brought their new system home! If this is the case, you are not happy with your gear! The Technics is used for music more than movies in our home! Is the unit the all inall or the end compared to some of the more expensive seperate gear out there? No, what it does is compete nicely with moderately priced seperate gear, or integrated amps for music, with the home theater surround sound as a awesome added bonus!

People who do not know what good sounding equipment should sound like.

Well just had to say after having this now about 7 months it is unbeatable for the quality of sound and construction the person who bombed this product has 1) bad communication skills. He was never really specific re what the problem was. And his complaint about the 6 ohm rating is not based in my mind on any facts. This product has quit bit of headroom so power is not a real problem. Also keep in mind all the outputs are discrete and not like the JVC which tend to use integrated circuts on the output stage and usually clips before it hits its advertised power output. The SA-DA10 can run in this power range and keep it clean. So it is a great reciever and one fine looking piece also. And just for those have not read my first review I have attached it below: I am running this receiver plus the top of the line Toshiba DVD player. Also running Boston Acoustic''s T830 and HD7''s all rewired with Kimber cable. Kimber cable speaker wire for speakers. All speakers have same length wire to them to minimize effect of less resitance of closer speakers to amp then to surrounds. This makes it more soncicaly balanced. Sub is the Audio source 15 with cabinet modifications to minimize the boomines ( I have none from it now) also changed power cord for sub to handle more juice. Also have power stablization on this system and the system is on seperate circut from power box. The sound is very sweet and warm I let the system warm up at least 30 minutes before play to allow circuts to settle down. I have played numerous styles of music and all have fared very well on this system. I will be please for quite awhile. Everyone complains of the heat but when you are running MOS_FET it will happen. For those of you that complain look at what you owned before all based on simple IC''s that are short lived and can not handle the transients that occur in music. I did see some one say they had other equiupment above this unit. Please if you want that stuff to live and produce the best sound the hottest equipment should be from top (hottest) to the coolest (bottom) with some distance between equip to prevent possible RF cross talk with other equipment if your current equipment is not shielded well. Also remember if you have excess length of speaker wire DO NOT role them up in a coil shape as you will be procducing an induction coil which will destroy all your efforts. Allow the wire t

Sorry Bill2000 apparently you are not the only person who doesn''''t know thedifference between "functioning quality" and customer service and repair issues. Unlucky and roscoey apparently have never heard the old saying "there''''s a lemon in every bunch". Of course there are going to be service problems with some of these units. For crying out loud there were thousands of these receivers produced and sold!! Still a great receiver!

This is actually in response to Billwad2000''s review below. First of all Bill, from what I could tell from your mostly unintelligable review, your problem has to do with a lack of customer service on Panasonic/Technics part, not with the quality or function of this receiver. If you have a problem with service, don''t come here and give a good product a bad review, lowering it''s overall rating. That''s childish and gives the wrong impression about this product. Call panasonic customer service or post your service grievences on thier website. Now with that said...this is still an awesome reciever (see my review below). Buy it while they last and enjoy. P.s. I am posting another 5 star rating just to couterbalance Bill''s rediculously low star rating.

Strength:

I love the remote. The dimmer is pretty cool too. The speaker connections can take my Monster cable with ease.

Weakness:

No coaxial connection but the optical works just fine.

Someone obviously got a bad or damaged unit and spammed out a few negative reviews. Thats childish. I''ve had Onkyo,JVC, and Pioneer receivers over the past 10 years. Always upgrading to something more powerful. This is the king of hill. For DVD sound tracks its unbeatable. The sound is as clean as I''ve ever heard. The channel separation is amazing. Setup was a breeze. I always keep my manuals handy to learn about features. I had to read this one a few times and kept it nearby for reference for awhile. I never considered a piece of Technics equipment but when I read the reviews here I went out and found one. I''m glad I bought it before they''re all gone. Its a steal at $250. Check the web, some places still have them at $799.
