Well I just got the STR-DE935 the other day wow!! It blows my old 825 away. I have two Vega VS-150's 2, Vega series 12 inch subs 1600 watts, and JBL centers and rears and damn this think sounds awsome. I dont know what the complaints are on this unit for the price it kicks anything's a** in its price range. The remote is killer I like it better than Lamaha's remotes. I went to sound advce here and listend to all the yahama recivers matched with a velodyne sub and B&W speakers and It sounded pretty good with classical then I put on Eric Johnson a great guitarist and bam instant crapola. Even my friend who was with me was like damn that sounds like a**. so back to sony I went soon I'm going to go to their ES series. The only downside to this unit is that they dont have an optic in for my cd player so that kinda sucks. but I can find a way around that. well I just want to say if you got 400. or 500. to spend go adution this unit it is well worth it

Strength:

High power consumption, great input selection,digital-crisp sound, neat control.great features way beyond the price!

Weakness:

The soundfields are weak sounding, only light bass.surround terminals arent binding posts.

The reciever as a whole,Is well built with a cool design and has too many features to list.im pleased with this fun object that has all the cool features, with not so many flaws I had alot of recievers already and none have intrested me as much as this one.-but with as much power that it carries it dosent have that clean crisp sound that an entry level yamaha [rxv395] had"

110 watts x 5, 28 sound modes: night theatre, jazz, opera, live, hall etc. speaker position setup, 5 video inputs,49 button 2 way remote w/ lcd screen,scroll/enter button, sleepmode function, eq controls, center rear speaker volume control(its a little slow and goes through batteries quicker than most) overall a very efficient a/v reciever for anyone who loves music movies and videogames

Strength:

Don't be fooled this remote accually kicks ass
sound, Appearance

Weakness:

Needs S- Video on Front and for TV/Sat

I had a Pioneer About the same price range.... 4-5 Years old
I purchased a 6 speaker package and they sounded terrible
I had heard them before at a friends house and they sounded awsome. So I decided to buy the the same receiver he had,
the STRDE935.

I SCAMMED a learning version on that cool remote so it just plain rules.

Sounds fantastic with my new Jamo Sirious Pak.

This looks like the first Sony receiver that combines the features and price point I seek. Anybody tried it out (or better, bought it)? I've tentatively narrowed down my seaerch to this and the new JVC 1028. (I have numerous video sources, so 5 A/V in's is the minimum for me; I've seen no models - affordable or not - with more.)

Ya, Sony has sure put a ton of features in this one. I'm thinking it's going to be a winner.
I am going to have (potentially misplaced) faith in Sony and assume that they have made significant progress toward fixing whatever it is that makes the 925 the most often broken receiver I've ever heard of. That is what has held me back from buying a 925. And I wouldn't even consider buying a refurb 925, even for significant savings.

This thing is selling cheap. I've seen it as low as $365. (email me for link. Can't find right now. I've decided I'm going to preorder one from there. Anyone seen it lower?

It's hard to find info on this receiver. The link at the top of this page is about all the info I can get. That's the ONLY place I've been able to see a picture of it. It's not on Sony's site yet. Please post a link to full specs, if there is one.

Well, I've decided to go for it, barrin a further change in plans. Will let everyone know what I think.

www.computability.com seems to have a more detailed specs on this product. I am also looking at JVC's 1028, but it seems that Sony is winning for the price ($400 at computability). However, no one knows when this will be out, so I would keep my fingers crossed until someone has a solid review on this product.
Computability claims that it has pre-amp outputs, which is important for me. JVC has it for all 6-channels, I don't know if sony has that too. If someone can confirm it that'll be great.

I was at Circuit City on 7/5/99 and they told me they should have the product (STRDE 935)in stock around the third week in July. The reason I know this is because I returned my Sony STRDE925, after reading the unit became very hot. I touched the top of the unit and it was hot.
I just want to let every one know Ciruit City was very helpful, especially when my unit was 6 weeks old and they have a 30 day return policy.

I called Sony several weeks ago and they gave me a little info on the product.

One problem I see is that there is no S Video plug for a satellite system. I have a RCA satellite system with a S Video and optical cable. What I wanted to do was hook up the unit to TV on the unit, with a S Video and optical cable. Quess what. The unit only has 2 S Videos and does not have one for TV/DBS.

This is a major flaw with the unit if you are running a satellite system.

Look at the Sony STRDE835 and you can get some basic info about the STRDE935.

This has got to be one of the best recievers out on the market today for the money. Video Direct is selling it fro $319 which is an extremely good price. Wit all the features and the excellent LCD Remote this has got to be a winner. My old reciever is a RX-V850 By Yamaha its a Pro-Logic, so I want to upgrade it to a Dolby Digital. Overall this has to be a good reciever compared to the RV-1105... so I will definantly get this when it ships within 3 weeks.

I am now in day 5 of using the STR-DE935. I had originally ordered it from Computability, but they were unable to give me a ship date, so I started looking elsewhere. When I called Sony on several occasions, I got several different stories about its release. In the end, they did not even know if they had shipped it yet. I found a store here in LA that had it in stock, and got to test drive it. When I was getting quotes about three weeks ago, this store quoted me $395, which is consistant with pricing around the country, but I would have to pay 8.25% LA County taxes on it. I got tired of waiting over the $25-30 difference, so a local dealer was my choice (actually my only choice since no one else had it yet in stock). The company is located in Santa Monica and is named Video & Audio Center (www.videoandaudiocenter.com). My salesman was Joesph.
So far I am extremely happy with the unit. It was worth the wait (I started looking 3 months ago). I consider myself to be relatively savy about AV equipment, but I must admit, it takes patience in setting this puppy up. The only disappointment so far is the fact that it has no...yes, I said no ...toslink input for my CD player. Everything else is covered, including S video and digital connections for the satelite dish.

The unit does run warm...not hot..so I would make sure it has ventilation.
I am using it with it with Bose AM10 speakers and a JBL 10" - 100W subwoofer. I know alot of people bash Bose, but I have never heard such clarity before. I selected the 935 over the 835 (which has been out in stores for about 3 weeks here), because of the remote and the front Video 3 hookup. The 835 has kind of a sucky remote that flips upward.

If you are looking for specs on this unit, I found a good Sony model comparison at www.video-direct.com/sony/avreceivers/compare.html - this company also sells the unit.

Well, bottom line...Sony has a winner. It seems as though they addressed the shortcomings of the 925 (some of them listed on this site under the STR-DE 925).

Go for it!
