Strength:

plenty of soundfields, plenty of connections, excellent sound and versatility (music, home theater) for the price. Dual SW output. The remote does take some getting used to.

Weakness:

none at this time considering the price.

Hooking this unit up to my DVD, digital cable TV with seperate cable box :-( was a no brainer. My only complaint so far is the remote does not have the versatility to replace the cable box (scientific atlanta digital) remote for such things as the TV guide, specific channel selection, and a few other bells and whistles this particular cable box is capable of providing. All in all, I personally like this receiver, however, I have always been a sony consumer so my review is a bit tainted.

Strength:

has high power, low distortion, easy to use, easy to uuse remote, good price, styleish

Weakness:

only 1 digital output,

to me the strde935 has everything u need with a price u can afford. with options such as multiroom compatability and control A1 output it stays up there with more high priced recievers such as onkyo or yamaha. it also has 27 dsp modes that suit it well. one mode is called auto format decoding (afd) wich interpets wat type of signal is incoming such as anolog or digital. i giv it a 5 out of 5!

The Remote Control

I was extremely pleased with the Yamaha receiver but it did not have optical inputs for my new DVD and DirecTV. I looked at several units, but the ease of operation caught my eye. Just give the unit an input and it determines whether it is prologic, DTS, Dolby Digital or PCM automatically. The video and audio inputs can be programmed to display the name of the equipment being used. With up to six different people using the unit, I did not have to worry about training the family to use it. This unit is placed in a living room, not a home theatre room. Hence, sound quality was important but not a show stopper. The sound rivals the Yahama and out-classes the aged Kenwood.
It has plenty of power to drive my 15" woofers in my front speakers.

My main complaint is the remote. It has an LCD display that takes two to four seconds to become operational once invoked. These seconds feel like an eternity when surfing between DirecTV and the VCR, especially when watching football.

I have not witnessed any amp problems, but it does get warm. Warm enough that I felt it necessary to increase natural ventilation. Overall, I am very pleased with the unit.

Strength:

DTS decoding, Cool blue light, Custom sound fields for different viewing options(i.e. tv, dvd, vhs)

Weakness:

The remote is the only weak link, Slow to respond & the rolling the batteries thing get annoying FAST !!!

Over all a good reciever. The remote responds too slow, and there is some sort of glitch in it. Every so often you have to roll the batteries aroung to make it respond (annoying).
The custom sound fields for different viewing options is cool. The optical input for the DVD makes the surround sound crystal clear & even better when it's DTS encoded. Over all, I would say it's a damn fine piece of equipment for the price tag.

Strength:

32 bit, Dolby Digital, DTS, optical in/out, coaxial, LCD remote, looks, auto format decode, s-video in/out, tons of toys, 2 sub out, need I say more.?

Weakness:

Weakness.???

Well it took me a month to get this receiver but when i got it i was nothing but impressed tons of ins/outs including optical/coaxial, 27 sound fields, on board e.q., bass boost ( i don't even use it i got too much bass )

i had this thing hooked up in less than 10 min it was a breeze the remote in even less time everything was simple i got cerwin vega center channel, sound dynamics fronts, technics fronts(B),audio research surrounds, Paradigm PDR-12 active sub.

550 watts total power with dd and dts and the price.. hhmmmm you can't go wrong the features are amazing and tons of em too.

For the person who said this thing has no bass.so you must have a active sub. well i got some news for you first of all i would never run a home theater system without a sub second without my sub connected this thing pounded my fronts no prob oh yea then i noticed the bass boost wasn't even on...Maybe you should sell your YORX SPEAKERS and get some decent ones...

For all the people that had trouble figuring out the remote well you didn't read the manual or your a moron i figured out 75% on my own then got manual out and got the 25% i needed now the total unit and the components run like a swiss watch...I also got the DVP-500 Sony DVD player hooked up to the system.

The Yamaha unit i was using before this was nice however it was only Dolby Pro-Logic Surround and for a unit with freatures like the sony was very expensive so went with the Sony and no regrets..!!

Strength:

Power, plenty of inputs, ease of use

Weakness:

Limited bass management (crossover is fixed @ 100Hz)

Nicely integrated receiver with sufficient fine-tuning options for those inclined. Two-way remote is a mixed bag: I have recently "retired" it by purchasing a Sony RM-VL900. Instruction manual somtimes reads like stereo instructions, but it is comprehensive. This year's replacement model (945DE) has a lower cost and looks the part. I/C amp switching is not ideal for best possible sound quality (your speakers will determine 95% of that anyway), but with these features at this price, I'm glad I voted with my wallet.

Strength:

For the price, the features are great. 110 wattsx5, Dolby Digital/DTS decoding, cool remote, more inputs than I need. Kicks the crap out of my old reciever.

Weakness:

If you have decent speakers, you can hear a hiss. Actually, if you stand right next to my speakers while the music is playing, but the sound is ALL the way down, you can still hear sound. The remote is a little slow. Tons of heat coming out of the top.

I think, for a mass-market reciever, this one is great. I'm just a college guy, so I can't afford top of the line brands on EVERYthing. It does well with Digital/DTS decoding. Theres tons of modes to play around with. It has inputs for everything I own, and then some. Plus, the 110 watts really drives my speakers. If you want the best, don't get this reciever. If you want a great all around reciever for under 500 bucks, then this is the way to go.
Throw in a couple Klipsch RF-3s in the front, some Infinity Bookshelf speakers in the back, and a nice JVC DVD player, and it turned out to be a pretty sweet apartment system.
It pisses off the neighbors anyway.
