Strength:

Good sounding, dts and dd, easy set up... Cheap as it gets

Weakness:

Remote had limited functions, tad weak in power...

Not the same amount of quality out of harmon kardon but hell who can compare a 144.00(ubid) reciever with one that costs 5 times as much. The sound is good. The DTS and DD are great. Set up was a sinch. I think that this reciever is worth every cent. In fact I strongly recommend it for anyone starting a home theater system. With pre-amp outs there is a lot of room for growth. I use the system for a computer set-up. Nothing like surround sound and unreal tourny!

Strength:

many features at a bargain price, non-fatiguing upper-midrange and treble

Weakness:

A litte shy in the bass department

This receiver is much better for music than the RV-5050R
which had more punch and better bass resolution but rather harsh upper mids. DD sounds very very good as well. I am now enjoying my CD's again with the nice easy sound of this Sherwood. With a powered sub the 60 wpc is plenty even with my PSB Stratus Minis (rated at 86 db) but I don't crank the volume up anyway. The dsp modes are ok as well with ambient-rich recordings. I wonder what the Newcastle stuff sounds like. Too bad there is no one in the Hartford area that sells Sherwood. It would make for an interesting demo.

Strength:

Quality, Build, Sound, Features

Weakness:

No On Screen Display

I Could have bought a Denon or a Yamaha for 4 times the price, but after I heard this magnificent piece, I've decided not to waste my money over brand names.

The 6095 has a DTS & Dolby Digital decoder plus a 3 mode DSP. Its power (5*65W) is enough to blow my living room and frighten the neighbors.
The sound quality is terrific, and believe me, I've heard the DENON AVR 5700 - you won't know the difference.
In these levels of "state of the art" electronics, i doubt if the differences are important to the human ear.

So its definetly a great piece, with a great price and i think its worth the money.

Strength:

dts decoding and dolby digital decoding and 65 watts per channel, plenty of inputs

Weakness:

i would of liked stereo output in rear speakers as an option and the remote should have up and down buttons for presets on fm radio. Also remote has limited angle of use

paid £199 from richer sounds uk in july and it was my first home cinema amp and it rocks. Only have 4.1 setup at the moment (no centre yet, getting mission 77c1) with music it's mighty fine with my rel q50 the bass is magical and for dd and dts it rocks with the dts trailers blowing your mind!.
Get one today cos it's such good value. £199 = bargain

Weakness:

I haven't found any yet.

I love this. I bought online JUST before Christmas, so I was the only bidder on it and got a fantastic price, on it, NIB, with warranty. But what I actually bid on was a 6090R, so I got an upgrade and a great price! Too cool!

Now, to talk about the receiver itself. It really has all the features I need. The unit has enough inputs for me, and most of the features are pretty easily accessible from the remote control. I like the fact that the muting is a total muting, not just a 20 db muting on my old Sony. And I definitely like having the DTS, truly a bargain at this price for that feature. And there are other nice touches too. The volume for settings for the Tuner, CD, VCR, etc, are all separate, so if I am listenning to a movie at one volume level, when I switch over to the NPR station for some classical afterwards, I don't need to mess with the volume. And it also has a nice sleep timer, which I use all the time. It has a nice touch that when you select your time, it waits a few seconds and then scrolls "Good Night" across its display! A minor feature I know, but it shows how well thought out this unit is designed.

Finally, with the cool DCM speakers I bought from the reviews listed hear, the 65 watts per channel easily fill my room, which is a little on the smaller size.

I think this is a wonderful piece of equipment, and easily one of the best gear purchases I have ever made.

Strength:

Pramp outputs for five channels and subwoofer and you can dim or turn off lights.

Weakness:

Preamp is VERY average for this price, but I've heard worse from a NAD T-760.

I have tried this as a preamp driving various high quality amps. I think that the preamp doesn't have enough power to adequately drive external amps in five channel modes. Stereo is passable, but could be a lot better. I use two stereo amps for front and rear speakers and the Sherwood internal amp for the center and the center channel sounds pretty muddy. I need to turn up the treble to +4 or +6 to make the dialog from the center more intelligible.

I haven't had any problems at all with click sounds when adjusting volume or sound level fluctuating like one reviewer below said.

The NAD T-760 had nothing good about it whatsoever, even the preamp outs were terrible. The JVC RX8000 was fantastic for movies and TV, but was subpar for stereo music listening. I really like the RX8000 remote that controlled everything you could want including an individual tone control for the center channel and the three band tone control for all channels. I would absolutely love one of those with preamp outs for all channels. It only had pre-outs for center and rear channels which makes no sense if you are trying to upgrade the stereo sound.

At 4125 that some below paid it's one of the best bargains around. For $200 it's still a pretty good bargain since I can use my external amps. They should put a better preamp in it and put all the adjustments that can be made on the remote and I'll pay $300 gladly.

I wanted to add this follow up to the 3/13/00 post. I have enjoyed this reciever. The suprise was how much my wife also enjoyed it. So much, that she just recieved hers about 4 days ago! She said that she wanted one for her room(our bedroom)so if she wants to watch a movie, she can keep her hearing, not mess with my settings and have the lighting any way she wants. My reply was "so what's the point?":) But she also stated that the unit really had a nice sound, it was easy to operate and the price was right. She also listens to alot of cd's and was very impressed with the warm yet detailed sound of the sherwood. I also must admit that hers sounds just a tad better than mine because it was cheaper! It came from ubid as well. I remember the technics dd/dts processors costing quite a bit more for a few years running. This is a great deal!
