Strength:

DD, remote, dynamics

Weakness:

Tuner, dsp modes

This is a great receiver. Dolby didgital has tons of punch as do cds. the remote is solid and versitile. This reviever blows away all the conventional brands in it's class ie(sony, technics, kenwood ) but denon and HK are very competitive. This is a no frills unit with the most advanced feature being the dsp modes. I like that, because in the end, all I care about is how it sounds, not how easy it was to set up or how atractive it is.
The sound is dynamic and surprizingly quiet. Sound is good even at low volumes which is a testament to it's quality amps. The tuner leaves much to be desired, however. I live in a metro area of over one million people, and it has trouble pulling in local stations that even my sister's aiwa does well. Very disapointing especialy because I still do enjoy doning some radio listening now and then.
I too had a problem with hiss that onkyo promptly corected for me.
This is a great reciever that has an edge even over comperable HK and Denon models and it is highly recomended!
Don't sweat the details and you will apriciate it for years to come. Happy listening...

Strength:

nice ciean power,easy to use,remote,dynamics,
clear sound,

Weakness:

no gold color

i think onkyo did it big time on this one.
the brightness and the clear sound made him
the nice reciver i ever listen to at this price.
the "5-ch stereo"just make me happy.
a freindly remote make an easy life, and the "wide range
amp technology"(10hz-100khz)make less nfb.
i highly recommend this machine to eny one.
just go four it!!!

Strength:

high current power, 5 channel stereo, dts and dolby ac-3 good remote

Weakness:

no backlit remote could use just a bit more power

I have been a long time fan of Onkyo.
My friend has a Denon 3300 and it is also great but the Onkyo was much easier to setup.. Since I can't afford the Denon, I went with the Onkyo and was very impressed with the 70 watts per channel as sounded as powerful as the denon rated at 100 wpc. DD is truly amazing. I had my Denon friend check it out and he said "I am shocked at the clarity in sound and the separation of instuments is truly amazing and no hiss like traditional Onkyo's"

To sum up this review, the learning remote is a plus (even though its not backlit) and the price can not be beat for the sound quality you get. I got rid of all my oldequipment and will buy all Onkyo for my stereo upgrade. I recommend this receiver to anyone on a budget.

Customer Service

For all of you that are having trouble with your 575...you can call the customer service manager @ 1-800-229-1687 extension 325...Mike Whitehauser. This company needs to be held accountable for its' amazingly deficient customer support!!! Call...and call often until you get some action. I am finally getting a replacement recvr. for my 575 that has been in for repair since July 24th!!!

Strength:

well since i can't seem to fix the hissing noise, there is no strengths in my opinion.

Weakness:

HISSING LIKE CRAZY! ANNOYING hissing noise coming through all my speakers!!

I can easily hear the hissing noise when i have a dvd hooked up to the reciever and i am using a coaxial or toslink cable. what i do is press pause on the dvd and i can hear a VERY annoying hissing noise throughout each of my five speakers!!! I am a home theater addict so i know i have EVERYTHING set up properly. the hissing noise is very loud when i just increase from mute to 1 decibal!

i bought the 575x just to compare it and see if i was just hearing things BUT there was no hiss in the 575x model. i also bought a denon avr 1801 receiver to see how it stacks up to the 575 and it destroys the 575 in every aspect! The sound is cleaner and you dont have to crank the receiver up as high as you do on the onkyo. also there is NOOOOOO hissing on the denon! they also have 1800 # and they seem to REALLY care about customer service.

the reason me and everyone else who has a problem with this unit is trying to stray people away from buying it is b/c of the LACK of customer service! we are trying to NOT SUPPORT a company such as onkyo who could care less about their products once their sold. please look into another receiver besides onkyo b/c if they cannot help us out, then we shouldn't support their type of business.
