The receiver is great! I played the Eagles Hell Freezes Over DVD and heardwhat I was missing from a Dolby Surround receiver, specially the one on the
DTS introduction.

The only thing I didn't like is that some of the flourescent display's dots were missing or not lit. I bought mine from UBID and I would like to know if
anybody has the same problem. It's still readable but I'm just wondering if
these maybe true only for units coming from UBID.

Overall the system is great!

This is my 30 day follow up to my initial review of the Onkyo TX-DS 575. I really love this receiver for the most part. When playing movies, I do have to go up to about 50% of the volume level to get "loud" playback. I still feel it is still the best receiver out there for the money. The more I listen to the 575, the more I appreciate the build and sound quality of this unit. Music and movies both sound truly superb. I still have a problem with backround hissing, mostly in very quiet passages, and usually only if I am very near one of the speakers. Still, this does irritate me. I have emailed Onkyo on this, and they have yet to get back to me. As soon as they do, I'll pass along any info they can give me. I replaced my audio connects with high end Monster Cable, and this has not helped the hissing problem either. Still, for the money this reciever is a clear winner over anything that Yamaha, HK, Sony, or Pioneer has to offer. Still a solid five stars from me.

I just purchased the Onkyo DS 575 and I am extremely thrilled with the performance of the system. I got the reciever for $400 from The Wiz in NJ. I also bought a pair of Polk RT 55's ( $450) and the Polk 120 sub woofer($250)with the Yamaha 765 CD player($200). Now I don't want to leave my house. This configurations sound just fantastic especially when you listen to jazz.
Keep up the good work that your site is doing. Defenitely the best review site i have visited.

This reciever is GREAT for the money. Upgrading from a Sony Prologic was a Big Jump up. Very Clean sound. I did notice the Hiss when I first hooked it up but was quickly remedied by reducing the TREBLE and balancing the Bass....after the slight adjustments I never heard any hiss again even past the 60% volume setting. I still don't have my DTS speaker system set up but in stereo everything I play in stereo sounds crisp and tight. Very good buy for $400. Don't even waste your time with Kenwood or Sony recievers.

Strength:

It is a great receiver. The best one I've ever had. It has two coxial and one optical input and has enough power (70x5). It has clear sound.

Weakness:

None that I can tell.

This is one of the best receivers I have owned or heard. I highly recommend this receiver to anybody who wants excellent sound at an affordable price.

Strength:

learning remote, sound is excellent when playing DVD,I do have Svideo on mine (haven't connected them as yet )think it's gadget, have optical connection DVD/VCR and even without a sub it soud terrific.I recommend this unit to anybody looking for a receiver at a good price.Purchased unit initially after reading reviews on this siteand i can say that I have not been disapointed Picked my unit for 950$au (display unit). No hiss,no fuss, good gear.

Weakness:

stereo sound a bit poor compared with my old cyrus(but again not the same price range).Learning remote is a bit tricky ex: i noticed after having programmed macro function that I could not program any other new remote. The only way is to delete everything and start again.does not keep audio balance in memory ,poor user's Manual.

A great receiver at low price ,I doubt that i would need to upgrade in the future and I'am very happy with it.
The learning remote is simple to use (I actually bought this model because of it rather than a cheaper one (574 i think it was) and let me tell you I'am glad I did.Plenty of power, sturdy,no gadget. Also my frt speakers are 4homs only
(B&W) and have no saturation at all at any volume.
thanks onkyo .I will give it top mark for ratio quality/price but can't give it top mark as a stero amp, it wouldn't be true.don't get me wrong it's still pretty good but it just does not match the old cyrus.
Great unit if you are starting a home theatre on a budget and still want quality .

Weakness:

poor stereo sound , slight hiss , no on screen display , no S-VIDEO and poor LCD display , 5 ch stereo ? What the hell is that for ?

I had no problem with the DD and DTS sound , it sound very good for the price , but the stereo sound coming
from this unit is very poor. looks like no freq. below 200HZ coming out from the speakers (NO SUB mode and
LARGE speakers mode).
and for those of you out there , forget the stupid idea of the 5 ch stereo , It is useless .
Stereo is 2 Speakers ONLY !!! you can add a Sub if you want , but the idea is to create a sound field from 2
speakers and not from five . I listened to some CD's in this mode , and I must say it sounds far and out of focus .
You must have 5 ch mixdown in order to listen 5 ch ,
You can't take 2 ch mixdown and use it with some Japanese algorithm , and say "it sound great" sorry there is no
such thing ! The reference in the MIX room is still 2 near
field speakers , and that the way it need to be hear.

Strength:

Full-Featured (DTS, DD, discrete amps, RE-EQ, digital inputs) for a very low price.

Weakness:

No digital output, no s-video switching

Being my first foray into serious home audio, I was cautious when researching my choice of receiver. I used mostly Dejanews (USENET) and audioreview (where did all the reviews go, btw? there used to be over 20 for this product).

The two listed weaknesses (and those are all I can think of) don't even affect me, but I know they are of concern to some people. I guess you have to give /something/ up for a receiver of this quality for this price. I picked mine up in August from www.yawaaudio.com for $430 after shipping. You might be able to beat that, I don't know, but the service was great and I highly recommend them. Anyways:

Listening to Sheryl Crow in 5ch Stereo right now--purely awesome. I was skeptical when ppl told me that 70 watts on this product would sound much louder than 100watts on a receiver w/out discrete amplifiers--but they're right. We regularly listen to DVD's at -10dB, where max is +18dB. And I like movies LOUD! At most, we've used -8dB. Simple math says that's less than a quarter of the max volume of this unit (though we've never tried anything over 0dB b/c the fronts are only rated for, I believe, 40Wrms).

Using Paradigm micro fronts, ADP-70 surrounds, CC-70 center, and a really big sub (can't see the model, but about two sizes above what you'd normally put with those speakers). My roommate bought these, so I'll let him review them in the appropriate section :). The times I think I hear hiss while listening, it turns out to be the audio source.

Using the digital audio input with a Toshiba SD-3109 over 12ft gold plated dubbing cable--I think that's longer than recommended, but it works great. Haven't used the optical input yet. Dying to, of course.

What else can I say? The audio (in DVD and CD) is crisp, clear, and full. You have lots of control, though I'm sure some receivers have more. Very happy with the universal remote--plenty of buttons and full macro capability. I've never used the unit for more than a few hours at a time, but in those cases it never got hot, even with constant usage.

A Highly Recommended buy if you don't need s-video switching (who really does?).
