Video (Bad Unit) It looks that the new SR7200 is the new lets pick on it target. I would like to offer my observation and to help separate fact from fiction with the 7200. Im an 41 years old audiophile that know good sound, I own a dedicate audio system for music only and all my life I was on a lookout for the perfect tone. I purchase the SR7200 on the same week it release and was one the first ones how got it. I wanted it have the latest processing technology and be a little more musically then regular. There are some issue I would like to respond to Sound&Vision review. False: Background sound noise: I have no idea where they got noise, in matter of fact this amplifier is so quiet, with full volume at +10DB with my ears 1 from the tweeter I didnt hear NOTHING, In a matter of fact I was expecting some sort of hiss; hey I dont sit 1 from the speakers and every audio gear generate some level of hiss but this one was DEAD. In digital and analogue Score: 5 Somewhat true: Power As an audiophile who have many audio gear in his life I can say that today watts measurements are by far off from the old audio gear; in compare to my 1977 110W P/C Sansei, the Sansui is most likely 4 to 5 time more powerful then the 105 W P/C SR7200; however I think today is like comparing oranges to apples since those are in different era. I can however can tell you that I had never listen to movies above -10DB on the dial and it is very very loud. Score: 3.5 True: Video S. Video connection is BAD (maybe the video connection too, but I didnt use it), My TV monitor is lighter from the center to the left then the other half, it is very evident in dark scenes, and it is very annoying. (I called Marantz and they told me to contact my dealer even it was more then 2 month from purchase, the dealer Ahead Stereo was in great help, he contact Marantz and they are shipping a new unit to the store where I can swap my old unit with the new one). Score: 2 (This score will go up if my new unit will be OK) My impression with sound (Stereo) The Marantz is very smooth, very listenable for long time, it is great for background music since it a little laid back yet is detailed. The problem with A/V receiver is similar to sport utilities cars, you can say it can drive on both terrain but it will never will be as good as a dedicated vehicle for that porpoise. The Marantz it is like the sport utility car, it have a great combination that will make movies and audio enjoyable. Some receivers are more detailed so they excel in movies, but music will sound bright and cold and will cause fatigue very quickly. I also want to mention that as die hard STEREO freak I wouldnt consider multi channel audio as an option; however I got a pleasant surprise with Circle Surround very nice sound stage with great separation and instruments location, I guess time change... Sound Score: 4.5 Conclusion: Go and listen to the unit yourself, I think it is still the best receiver for the money. Similar Products Used: Many |

Strength:
Solidly built, nice stereo sound and excellent HT
Weakness:
Nothing so far I am in the process of upgrading my receiver. My current one is a Denon AVR2400 which doesn't have any decoders built in. It's an very nice receiver and I have had almost 4 years of trouble-free and enjoyable time with it. Similar Products Used: Integra DTR 7.1(excellent) Denon 3802 |

Strength:
Nice remote, spacious and smooth sound, features, ease of use
Weakness:
Weak sounding, no subwoofer output in direct mode and DSP modes I have looked at many other receivers in the same class including the Denon AVR2802, AVR3802, H/K 510, Yamaha vx1000, onkyo DS696. I totally agree with the other previous reviewers about the sound quality of this receiver. The goods are that it sounds very smooth, warm, musical, and spacious, it has enough features including Prologic II, component video switching, 6.1 surround even though it's not descrete. It's very heavy, 36lbs or so, well built, the remote is very nice, can control virtually anything. The bads are that it sounds too smooth and soft so the upper frequencies are hidden, making the sound muddy and non-involved. It can put you to sleep very easily. I think this receiver is more suitable for Jazz music. Besides the Marantz, Denon avr2802 and Avr3802 sounds most musical and clean among the other brands. It doesn't sound as spacicious as the Marantz, but you hear a lot more details and the music is much more alive both in 2-channel stereo and surrounds. And it doesn't sacrifice any bells or whistles either. Overall, the Denon is still better. Similar Products Used: Denon AVR2802, AVR3802, H/K 510, Yamaha vx1000 |

Strength:
Musicality and ability to draw you into the presentation. Clean, detailed and very natural sound. Unconfused presentation.
Weakness:
Remote isn't backlit, though the buttons are glow in the dark. I'm still at the auditioning stage, so will reserve a full review for when I've decided between this and the NAD T761 as a replacement for my 3802 which I'm ultimately disappointed with. Strength:
Remote. Sounds great. Circle Surround 5.1
Weakness:
Lack of EQ control when not in 2Ch Stereo mode This is my second SR7200, S/N 66XX. The first one, S/N 62XX, had some issues with an persistant "crack" through the speakers on shutdown and while switching sources. The new receiver is like night and day compared to the first unit which was swapped out by the dealer for this one after three weeks. Similar Products Used: Marantz SR7200, HK AVR20 II |

Strength:
Very musical, neat little remote, clean warm sound with plenty of power
Weakness:
no backlight on remote lcd screen I still own my SR-8000, bought this for my dad, set it up and wow just like my receiver, but not quite as good sounding. This thing has everything, including HD-ready Component Vid switching. My only complaint for the price is that I wish the remote had a little more flexibility and memory. I tested both the SR-7200 and the Denon AVR-2802 which is priced about the same, both sounded the very good and clean. The Denon had a slightly wider soundstage based on the Toy Story 2 opening scene, which i'm not very familiar with. The remote and familiarity with Marantz receivers tipped the favor to the SR-7200 though. Got a great deal on a demo model, but even at list price I would still go with the Marantz over the Denon. It's hard enough teaching the folks to use a remote control, but the remote Denon tries to pass off with is almost torture. Strength:
Exquisite musicality
Weakness:
None found yet. This a follow up review after using the 7200 for a while now. The amplifier is still very much a no regrets purchase. Exquisitely detailed, transparent and dynamic, it knocks spots off other competing AV amplifiers for pure audio quality. Sound quality is lush and smooth, but with stacks of attack and detail - it can go loud without getting muddled, and remains refined when working a high volumes. Similar Products Used: As before |

Sound Quality, remote control
Weakness:
Clicks and pops (before repair) The Marantz SR-7200 is my second AV receiver and I bought it without first auditioning it based on favourable early reviews and Marantz reputation for sound quality. I was most disappointed to find that it made a click and pop noise through my speakers when the mute circuit operates. This was the last problem I had expected from a "high-end" product and for which I had paid a price premium for. Similar Products Used: Sony STRDA-80ES |

Powersupply. No phono-pa. This review is for the SR 6200. Similar Products Used: None (always used pure stereo) but auditioned quite a lot of av-receivers before deciding on this one. |

The latest technology. Excellent price...

Only minor complaint would be better binding post. This receiver is awesome both in music and home theater. I had previously owned both the Marantz SR19 and SR18EX and this receiver can compete with both of them. Since owning this receiver I had the upgrade bug and have hooked 2 MA700's for the the fronts. It made an improvement but still sounded awesome without them. The rest of my system consist of a MSB DAC, Monarchy DIP, a TDS Passive Audiophile,HK 8550 5 changer player and Paradigm Ref.60's Speakers. I don't believe I will be upgrading anytime soon.
