Weakness:

Manual I guess... only thing that is good about it is there is a diagram of the back of the unit so if its a shelf and U cant see that back The Manual tells you where to Stick it.. ;)

My System:
Boston Acoustics: VR 965 Mains
Boston Acoustics: VR12 Center
Boston Acoustics: VRS Rears
Sony: DVP-s330 DVD
Tributaries: S-Video adn Digi Coax for DVD player
XLO: ER-15 Speaker for Mains and Center and some Better then normal "Lamp cord"... "lamp cord" fo the rears

I've had my 7k for about 7 months now I think. I simply love this reciver now people complain about not enough bass.. I hvae no iea what they are talking about I have VR965's and they have a built in amp and 8" sub in each tower I guess that helps heh. The DD is Great and the DTS is Even better. This unit Sounds as good as it look, Awesome. The remote is really nice only thiung is I wish it would have had backlight but after a week you dont need to look down at the remote to use it anyways. I got this unit when there was only about 6 reviews on this board for this unit And I have not been let down as of yet with this unit.

I think this unit could do maybe witha Little bit more power( or the proper raiting) I think.. no to say I couldnt blow the piss out of my bostons if my Marantz wanted to but hay... Simply put You can not be disapointed with this reciver as far as I know. If this is your first "real" HT reciver I know youl love it 110% and even if yove had other greats youll still love it.. Buy one Now!. People really Think the remote is cool, Reciver soudns and looks good and they know its ood when There is a warning about pinching your fingers if you set it down because its HeavY! First this is a Home Theater Reciver. The 5ch is great I use it when i watch TV and Hockey & football games (Go Leafs Go) and it sounds great. The 5Ch is really good for if youy have say a Superbowl Party because people have to sit at the back and the Rear speakers fill the gap and Fill the Room so Everybody gets to hear the action!

Strength:

Sleek remote, good power (100 watts).

Weakness:

High crossover, lack of source vol control, pricey for features.

This receiver is very dissappointing. The high crossover makes this receiver almost useless. How can any company be so stupid to set the crossover so high? For this kind of money I would definitely have expected that. That problem right there ruined my music listening experience. Then add to the pain that source volume seems to fluctuate wildly really annoyed me too.

These guys who claim the sound is so good, must not like any heavy base in their music. Way dissappointed, taking it back. You can do a lot better for the money. To anyone who wants to diss this review, I would like to know your answers to the stated problems.

Just like Lee Jackson, a negative-point reviewer, I too had my thoughts delieted from this forum.

Is perhaps Marantz financing AudioReview? Either way, I believe in fair and unbiased views and I would hope that they would not deliete anyones opinion.

Although my previous review was very detailed and in-depth, I'll keep this one as short as I can and to the point.

After having had the sr7000 for a few months (returned 3 months ago) I was impressed with the following parts of the receiver:

- Looks Hot and is well build
- Easy to use Receiver with easy to read face
- Excellent DD and DTS soundstage
- Nice FM/AM Tuner Section
- Powerful Bass

What I disliked about the receiver and which caused me to return it was:

- Improper Power Rating too high
- Poor 2 channel Stereo
- Weak Treble management
- Although Bass is powerful, can sound muddy
- Sound that was far to warm..thick like molasis at times
- Remote has dificult to "dial" knob and is not backlit
- Flashes a Peak meter when fed with an analog CD source
- Dolbly Prologic sounds weak (compared to other receivers)
- Sound is "scratchy" on old analog material, even some new DD Souces that have a small amount of "hiss" in them will be amplified.. can overpower voices in the center C at high volumes

From the last 4 points, It seems this receiver doesn't like analog sources all that much... even some sources that are average in quality... like some DD tracks. Don't use it for a lot of TV watching and don't play a lot of AAD recorded CD's on it... or even some moderately mastered DD DVD movies. You'll be sorry.

I did do a lot of extensive testing. I really did want to be happy with this machine. In the end, I felt that my gripes with the receiver outweighed the positives and I returned it.

I've just placed a deposit on a new Onkyo Integra DTR 7.1 and really like it's sound and performance.

I do respect all users opinions and I hope everyone is happy with their purchases. Unfortunatly, I was not.

For this price range you can't beat it. All my speakers in my system are 4 ohms. My fronts (Odeons) are rated 140 rms, rears at 100 and centre at 110. I'm an Electrical Engineer and tested the unit with my hand held FLUKE Power - Harmonic analyzer after reviewing some reviews on this forum that stated the unit is over rated. Ummmmm, my showed at +15db (maxed - and with a set of ear plugs in my ears) Lch 101.7 W, RCh 101.6W, SrL 101.6W, SrR 101.7W, CNTR 101.6W. For me that's impressive considering after playing the same passage over and over again I got pretty consistent reading from all 5 channels. I doubt the ONKYO's or Yamahas or Denons will do that. For something that costs $650 that is quite impressive. Actually, most of the time I drive my speakers at about the - 10 db setting - which should consume about 60-65 % of the units rated power - but that test I might do some other time.

The peak indicator does nothing for me as I can control the gain on my analog O/P out of my CD player. BTW its the Marantz 67SE MOD - another fine product that blows its competition away - at least its quite modifiable. However, I use the digital out most of the time. Seldomly I switch to analog.

Remote, not bad. Better than ALL others in its price range. Looks - a KILLER - None out there in that price range.

As for sound - well that depends on the source, cables, speakers, room dimentions, wife, neighbours, humidity - you get the picture. However, do burn in the unit for at least 100 hours otherwise this baby is very rough - I almost returned it myself after about two weeks a listening. Give it time and you will be rewarded.

BTW the owner of The Gramophone - place where I bought my SR7000 - was quite suprised that I was able to power my speakers without tripping the over current protection on the unit. Maybe its not working correctly - LOL or its out of spec.

Strength:

Sound -- this thing sounds awesome. I have the volume on -6, and the bass and sound are AWESOME. The bass shakes the entire house. I did a lot of research, and am totally glad I got this product

Weakness:

remote -- kinda weird until you get used to it.

If your in the mid range and want some upper end sound BUY this reciever, I have been into car audio for MANY years, and I never though my home system could rival the 2 12's I used to have in my car. My polk 8 inch sub is incredible. One thing I love is I do not have to crank it up to get great sound. I have not mentioned anything about the inputs, 5 digital, and every analog device u could ever own. This truly is one great reciever.

I am considering purchasing the SR-7000 and have not found a unit set up at a dealer to demo yet. I have a couple of questions for someone who already owns this unit. Does it have a Cinema Re-EQ circuit? Also, does it have a 5-Channel Stereo mode?

Other units I am considering are the Denon 1801 or 2801 and the Onkyo 575X. The SR-7000 is a little more than I was wanting to spend, but it may be worth the extra $$ from what I have read on this board.

I would be using this unit with a set of Energy Take-5 speakers and an Energy 10" sub.
I have given the unit 5 stars based on the majority of reviews (it is a required field to post my questions).
Thanks for your help.

Good build quality, descent looks

Weakness:

Sound, very weak sound for the price.

Don't buy on blind trust of the reviews here. I tried the product and was totally dissatisfied with the sound. The Sony es-777 is way better. I'm disgusted by the way everyone rates this reciever so high.

OK, sorry here, but I just had to put my two cents in on the "SONY" review. Boy, I've listened to all kinds of Sony's and they are generally God Awful.

I've yet to find one that doesn't try to "Wow" the prospective buyer with all kinds of (worthless) soundfields, funky remotes, hidden panels and cheap-feeling buttons/knobs. These guys haven't produced anything worthwhile since Woodstock - I think it's time they stop resting on their repuatation and try to put out a good product instead of just good window dressing.

You may be able to make a case for the Denon 3300, or Yamaha, or even the HK - but the Sony, please give me a break! The Marantz is one of the best in the under $1000 price range, and this cannot be argued. If you don't believe me, read the reviews - or even better - listen side by side and then tell me ANY Sony is better.

Strength:

simplicity of use & sound quality

Weakness:

none so far

I started off with a Yamaha 795a. I found that one lacking in various ways, so I moved to an H/K AVR 300. That was a huge mistake. I tortured myself with the H/K for a month and now I think I've finally found my HT receiver.

This thing sounds great, is easy to use, has a nice universal remote in the box (sure, it's not as good as the million dollar marantz remotes, but it's a good pack in). I can't find any bugs in this thing. It works like it says it's supposed to, and it sounds pretty damn good to boot.

If I really had to find something to complain about, the bass seems slightly weak.

Strength:

Number and variety of inputs. Digital decoding. OSD. Ability to be upgraded in the future.

Weakness:

Remote & Power (Not what Marantz says)

The past year with this product has been nothing but pure delight. I upgraded my SR880 because I needed more digital inputs. As for connections, this receiver is in the head of the class as far as that goes. 5 digital inputs is plenty for any configuration you could think of now and in the future. Component input switching would be great, but this is not a big deal as I connect my DVD directly to my monitor. In the future, all one needs is a 6.1 or 7.1 decoder and you are set (But that will not be for a while). As for what I don't like, the remote, as everyone else has said (Not horrible though). Also, beware, eventhough Marnatz says it has 100 watts/ch, mine actually tested out at 87 watts. Despite this, power is not a problem unless you like to listen as extreme volumes.
Anyways, this is the best receiver in the sub 1300 range, and that is how many rating is based on. So, do youself a favor and test it out in your house, I know you will not be disappointed.
