Strength:
decent dd/dts decoding , 6 channel main-in/pre-out, nice warm stereo sound, good binding post for all channels
Weakness:
1. remote and manuals it has a nice warm stereo sound compared to my old Harman Kardon which drives my NHT speakers. i'm using this as a pre-amp for my Rotel amps. DD/DTS decoding is good but you have to turn up the volume to get a decent sound while watching movies. havent tried video switching yet since my tv has ample s-video/composite inputs. Strength:
Low price, Dolby Digital & DTS, learning remote, 6 channel input/output
Weakness:
Manual lacks details, surround sound modes hopeless Got the SR5000 for about 2 weeks now. Seems to sound better and better everyday. Using Acoustic Energy Aegis 1 as front and an Atlantic Technology for the sub. Got a Pioneer DVD 525. |

Strength:
Balanced sound. Strong 2 channel performer for an a.v receiver.
Weakness:
Nasty learning remote. This receiver caught me by surprise. It is capable of being highly musical despite being an a/v receiver. Detailed, open, airy highs but also delicate at the same time. Particularly strong bass and a smooth open midband. In other words, it sounds better than any a/v receiver I've heard so far. It performs well on movies also. At this price point you would expect it to compete with Denon and Yamaha, but it absolutely blows away the Yamaha and doesn't make Denon's look much better (although alot better than Yamahas). I'd say the only a/v receiver to consider above this range is a B&K. |

Strength:
Digital Decoders, LEARNING remote
Weakness:
POOR music quality Bought this to replace my 95 Kenwood Pro Logic receiver. Had good sound for dolby digital & dts. The remote learned all the codes for my cd,tv & dvd. But the audio reproduction for music was EXTREMELY flat. It was like having a towel wrapped around my Infinity Overture 1s. With the treble all the way up there was still no presence, mids and highs were all but non existant. To get decent sound, this thing has to be cranked up 50% or better, not advisable in an apartment. Also, I strickly use the pro logic for listing to music and you can't even hear the rears with this thing! It makes my Kenwood seem like 5 channel stereo as far as the rears are concerned. Also no a/b speaker switch or loudness control. Salesman tried to sell it as 'high current' like the H/K, but I doubt it... no where in the manual or website does it mention this, and having to turn it up over half way makes it really doubtable. Spend a bit more and go with Yamaha 795 or chance the H/K 65 for a few dollars less. Similar Products Used: H/K 65 |

Strength:
remarquable clean crisp natural sound, strong definite bass,
Weakness:
no 24/96 decoder, not enought inputs, no "B" front speakers. remote awfull, not enought "dsp" modes. I was shopping for a month, in stores, internets sites, reviews... then finally i hesitated between the db940 and 5250, the Yam had lots of bass, but miss quality natural reproduction of music, and the 25 dsp modes, well, they don't sound very good except 2-3 modes. Sony has "hisses", too many gadgets and set ups, you get confused. Similar Products Used: JVC, Sony strde945, sony db940, yamaha htr-5250, onkyo 575x |

Strength:
solidly constructed, simple yet stylish design, & excellent sound quality for the price
Weakness:
manual is not terribly helpful and the remote does not have any illumination for nighttime viewing Originally when I started putting this system together I had set my mind on the HK AVR-310 or the Nakamichi AV-10, but after doing some research I found that I could pick up the SR-5000 for much less. The HK is a nice receiver, but it doesn't seem to offer any extra features or surround modes for the additional $300. The Nakamichi has a lower THD and other features, but at about $1000, it is more than I was able to spend. Similar Products Used: Kenwood, Onkyo, and a few others |

Strength:
Well built, easy to use, great sound.
Weakness:
Manual - not as robust as it could be. Also the diagram for hooking up the sub woofer is incorrect. This is a review for the SR5200, which is the 2001 model of the SR5000. Similar Products Used: Yamaha RX-V595, NAD L-40 |
