Strength:

Powerful

Weakness:

No bass/treble controls, no coaxial video inputs

Good all around reciever, plenty of power and dolby digital is great. My biggest complaint is the stupid 5 band digital equalizer instead of bass and treble knobs. Oh well, its got a sub adjustment. Remote and onscreen display system is great. Good value if you can find it for 300$ or less.

Strength:

-AC-3 optical input (5.1)
-S.E.A. (eq)
-Adjustable sub out
-Good THD in stereo mode
-Test tone
-Build quality

Weakness:

-No Coax Dig. input
-No binding posts on center/surround
-Difficult tuner to operate from remote

At the time of purchase, I needed a very affordable replacement amplifier for my old Sony integrated that burned up. Being a college student at the time, $320 was a lot to spend. But, I have had it for over 1 1/2 years and only now that I have purchased new PSB 5Ts, Denon CD player, JVC DVD player, OXOS interconnects, and large-gauge, high strand-count wire, is it the weakest link in my system. It has taken a severe beating with constant birrage of maximum volume levels, poor ventilation, dust, multiple moves (6 in the past year)...and is still performing as new. It offers very respectable stereo performance with EQ bypass on (S.E.A. digital eq off). Capable of driving moderately effecient speakers to practical limits w/o noticable distortion. Way more receiver than most will know how to use if it's a "first."

Highly recommended for general stereo and HT use. Do not expect ultra linear, ultra detailed power...it's not THX-certified after all. But DO EXPECT excellent features, power, and reliability for the money.

Well done, JVC.

Strength:

Dolby digital and high power output at this price is awesome. Excellent remote. Generous presets (15 AM/30 FM).

Weakness:

IC amplifiers don't allow use of 4 ohm speakers. Could use another video input. No tape monitor.

A nice receiver and a major bargain at the price (I paid $199). A true Dolby digital decoder at this price is incredible. It lacks DTS but that's a non issue as DTS seems like this generations dbx, just not as popular. Haven't had any problems with a buzz or a hum, those other people might want to check for a bad ground or blown speakers. The styling is clean but, because of that, it relies a bit too heavily on multiple menus for navigating the different features, it's a bit clumsy that way. Overall I think it's a tremendous bargain and nothing can touch it at it's price.

Strength:

lots of features

Weakness:

hum, hiss

This reciever is fine if you listen to music/dvds at low volumes but if you crank up the volume to > 50 you will hear a very annoying hum or hiss from the speakers. Sending it back and trying the Onkyo TX-DS474.

Strength:

Lots of features!
Easy to use remote (plus AV Compulink)
100W/ch of clean power
Digital Input (Optical)

Weakness:

No Coaxial Digital Input
No Component Video Input
Weak Tuner

It's a great buy for $330! Definitely BETTER than RX-718VBK and RX-884VBK!
In short, it's a best buy for a solid build A/V receiver!

Strength:

High power, good sounding, naming of radio stations, compulink

Weakness:

i wish i had spent another $50 or $100 to get a much better model

this is an awesome sounding reciever. i have it in 10'by12' bedroom hooked up to a pair of mtx loudspeakers for fronts, a pair of klhs for my rears, crappy optimus center channel, and two 15" rockford fosgate subs. it brings a new meaning to home theater.

Strength:

Price, output power, 2 inputs for digital sound, JVC is Good Quality (I like their products *except for home audio speakers).

Weakness:

Not enough s-video inputs (I had to buy an s-video selector box to hook up multiple components)

Great for my needs. Happened to be at the store when they had an "additional" 50% off of their clearance merchandise (was already marked down 25% because item was returned). Item was in great shape when I checked it out (complete in box and all plastic packages unopened including remote and instructions). I had this about 6 months before I could afford to get the Speakers that I wanted. Works great and I am very happy with it. What a bargain.

Strength:

Plenty of inputs for everything. Excellent sound.

Weakness:

None

I don't quite understand the "hum" that some have experienced from this receiver. The clarity is excellent from this receiver, and that is coming from two 15" Jensen's as my front mains that I only paid $120 for. Perhaps the other reviewers speakers had the problem, or maybe they were using something ridiculous like 22 gauge wire. Also there is no need to listen to any connected component above the 30-35 out of 90 volume setting if you have decent speakers that are connected properly. This receiver is way too loud when turned past 40. I highly reccommend the RX778VBK for it's price and performance, you can't get a better receiver.

Strength:

I'll let you know when I find some.

Weakness:

No rear plug ports, and has buzz at volume >60 in dvd or TV mode.

Having owned the best receiver on earth (JVC RX807V) for the last 9 years, I was very disappointed when I brought this new model home to "upgrade" my home theatre system. The THD quality dropped, the interface is terrible, and it's down right boring to look at. I had to turn the volume up past 60 to get any decent sound out of it for movies, and when I did, I heard a terrible buzz or humming. This receiver was a massive let down, and I ended up taking it back. I'm sad to say I am actually considering Sony now.

Strength:

It does everything I expect it to do

Weakness:

At this price, there are none

I got this for less then 200$ shipped from Ubid. For that price, I don't think there is a better reciever around. The sound is clear, as loud as I need, and great for movies. It has all the inputs/outputs I could ask for and did I mention it cost less then 200$?
