    Strength:

7X110 watts, features, clean and detailed sound.

    Weakness:

Volume display too small on the receiver.

I bought this receiver to replace my old Prologic Onkyo receiver. I''ve looked at several other receivers at around this price range like the Integra 7.2, Marantz 7200, Yamaha RX1000, H/K 520, Sony es, etc. I like Marantz products but not the Marantz 7200, the one I looked at has many bugs and weak sounding, the later release maybe better. Sony, Pioneer are designed more for home theater and not very musical. I had a chance to listen these receivers side by side and it was obvious that the Denon Denon sounds most musical, clean, detailed and lush, even the Denon 2802 sounds better than the Integra 7.2 which costs a lot more. I heard many details from my cd''s that didn''t exist when I was using my Onkyo receiver. I listen to music mostly so stereo performance is a critical consideration in choosing a receiver. Not only it sounds good, but it''s packed with features too, I haven''t seen another receiver that offers a 7th channel amplification in this price range, Prologic II is much superior than Prologic I. It is not THX certified but how it actually sounds that matters. I wish it would have the 232 port but for the price and performance I can''t expect more. I''m not sure why people hit so hard on the manual and remote, the onscreen setup was very fair. The remote is not the best but it is very good although I find it to be too unsensitive, a lot of times I have to point straight to the receiver for it to work. The front pannel looks very clean and it gives you the feeling that it is very well built. The volume display on the receiver is too small to see from distance but these are very minor drawbacks. Sure you can get better sound with high-end separates and much more expensive receivers, but for receiver at this price range, I find this to be the best in performance, features and price.. Strength:

Power reserves,Sound,Connectivity options,Features,Looks ( have you seen this receiver in Champ. Gold color?

    Weakness:

I will not give this remote a bad review Specially when other products Like Pioneer make the worst remotes I ever seen in my life. This remote by far is better and It light up in the dark too I know receivers costing twice as much that don''t even have florencent keys on them. This remote is the bomb!

I have been paciently waiting to review this product and to post my findings here were it matters most.I shop around to buy this receiver because my wife would not allowed me to buy any receiver or anything over $700 pesos.Needless to say I here to audio review and saw many reviews on many receivers Yamaha,Sony,Pioneer,Marantz to name a few. I was currently a Yamaha owner with lotz of love for their products, but I''m not only a sound lover I want features too.Yamaha has the right sound for me any day but on features their kind of not there yet.Pioneer products Just does not cut it for me,Their crossover frequencies alone start at 100hz on every receiver thats not an Elite model go figure?Marantz 7200 model had awfuls reviews here in Audio Review and in Sound & Vision so I didn''t even bother to look or listen there.Other brand Like Onkyo and Harman never had my ear because their receivers sound too bright for me,don''t get me wrong I don''t like boomyness either,Sony tends to have that type of boomy sound.Sony will give you the best features but sound and power reserves leave much to desire. Finally this receiver has a little bit of everything in it, Power(110 watts @ 8 ohms to seven channels)Clear natural sound (plaese dont rate this stereo receiver if all you have is a pair of Sansui speakers for you main channels,be realistic if you have a receiver like this one the least you can have is a good pair of JBL''s and not the 1970 versions either.)the speakers you have play a very important role on how this receiver will give you sound you actually believe and like, this receiver will bring out good or bad recording cd''s to the table if something is not recorded right this receiver will let you know. This receiver is a killer on Movie tracks and Music wise well how can I put to summary very revealing to say the least, bass is were it should be and highs are there too.

    Strength:

Tremendous power, DTS ES is absolutely incredible. Pro logic II is worth every penny.

    Weakness:

Remote is a little wierd at first, and the manual could have been a little clearer.

This receiver is excellent, and it more than justifies the expense. I must thank everyone for all of their reviews, it really helped me pick out this beautiful receiver. Setting the unit up was not as difficult as everyone said it would be, I guess you just have to ''know'' what your doing and get through it. The manual can be difficult to read if you have to completely rely on it, the best way to use it is as interpretational guide. The only thing that was a bit annoying during set up was adjusting the settings for each seperate mode. Having seperate settings for everything is a great thing, but the initial adjustments was a bit tedious. The remote only comes second to the one that came with the sony 945, but it''s not that far behind. It does take some time to get used to, but once you''re there it''s more than ''usable.'' The only thing I was a bit afraid of from what I read in the reviews was how it would handle music. It almost made me turn away from the unit, but while listening to it in the show room I saw that I could adjust it to make it fit my tastes. And that what it all basically comes down to, the sound I get from this receiver suites me, and that makes it completely awesome as far as I''m concerned. Enjoy!

    Strength:

    Remote

    Weakness:

None so far. Denon''s policy about not honoring the warranty if not bought from an authorized dealer.

There is not much I can say about this wonderful receiver. I upgraded from a Denon AVR2700 and could not be happier. I considered the AVR4802 but the price difference was too great. Do yourself a favor and download the owner''s manual from www.del.denon.com/catalog/pdfs/avr3802dfu.pdf before you get the unit home. You will need Adobe Acrobat software for the download. You can get it free at www.Adobe.com. Read every page of the manual, some pages twice and highlight the important areas. It is than very easy to set up and you don''t have to slow down to read the instructions. The set up and use is than a snap.

    Strength:

    DPL2, dts-es, quality sound

    Weakness:

low volume is a bit unclear

Well I have had the Denon 3802 for only a few days, but enough to make a first impression. I first bought the avr 2802 and enjoyed the sound, but felt it didn''t have enough midrange and enough power that I would be able to hear detail at lower levels. Let me back up and say that this is only for home cinema use, as I have a Hafler 500 and dbx for listening to cd''s together with a pair of 14 year old Infinity RS IIIb with 2 x 10" woofers in Oak cabinets make it hard to compare with this Denon. At low levels the hafler has a lot of detail and the resonance is hard to beat. Well back to the story, so after having the 2802 for 10 days I sent it back for the 3802 and found that there was more clarity, separation of sound thru each channel and detail than the 2802. It actually got closer to the Hafler. I have the French set 5 of Cabasse iO speakers and a cabasse jupitor subwoofer. The remote on both the 2802 and the 3802 is slightly confusing at first and then once you figure it out very easy. Confusing because you have 2 sets of commands for everything you use. The first gray set of buttons is to enable the remote tooperate other units ie dvd, television and then the second yellow set on the bottom is to switch between sources ie dvd etc within the pre-amp. So if you touch the wrong button you have to backtrack alot to figure it out. Once you do the "setup" is straight foward" and just follow the on screen setup menu presented. The DPL 2 is great, all the surround features are excellent. I live in france so the price was steep for what you''re getting. My only complaint is I haven''t found out which mode to listen to tv at low levels at nite and have good clarity. Like the 2802 I use either the 5/7 channel stereo mode or surround dpl2, but I think there''s something else which I will find. I like the sound very much and did lot''s of research before buying this avr, It offers the latest technology dpl2, dts es, and punches out 105 watts on 7 channels so there was nothing else that compared in this category unless you want to step up to the plate for a avr4802, but the leap is difficult to justify as it is JUST for home cinema.

Terrific Sound Crisp Sound Able to hear layers of sound On Screen Display Good Manual Good Remote

    Weakness:

    None Yet

I am very happy with this receiver. My Phillips FR-980 finally went. When I bought this receiver for the same price as the Denon 12 years ago it was state of the art. The Denon blows this thing away. The wide screen effect is incredible as well as all the other sound effects you can obtain. You can hear the soloist in the foreground and all the background music in the surround speakers as you should. The sound is crisp and you can hear layers of sound you could not hear before. I find nothing wrong with the cymbals as one reviewer pointed out. They can be heard crisp as well. I think the remote is great. It''s the best universal remote I''ve ever had and it operates the rest of my equipment as it should. The manual is very good and the On Screen Display helps you select parameters for sound as well as the radio stations of the tuner. Contrary to what one reviewer wrote, you can play other video sources simultaniuosly while you listen to another source. I am getting geat sound using a 40 watt Radio Shack Speaker as the center speaker and the sound is awesome. I intend to replace it with a state of the art Center Speaker System and I can only imagine how much more incredible the sound will be once I add it. As far as this receiver not having THX certification, I would not fret about it. It has 7 channels which most other brands do not including the Onkyo 797. Also from what I understand real THX can only be heard from receivers which are Ultra THX certified which the Denon 4802 is. If you have the extra $500 or $600 then go for it but for this money the 3802 is great. So don''t be distraught if you see a receiver like the Onkyo 797 which is THX certified. It is not Ultra THX certified and it does not have 7 channels. I highly recommend this product

I had an Pioneer 409 it didnt have the new PlII and the 5 ch stereo among other things and I am building a new system. Soooo I read many reviews and shopped alot and found the 3802 to be the most well rounded reciever out there. I hered it was hard to set up and the manual was difficult to read . So I just started hooking it no manual and doing the on screen setup. In 30 40 mins. I was up and runnining and I have alot of components. NO problem!! Just read th elabels and the on screen set up and I was impressed to say the least. No worries. The sound is much crisper due in part to the better quality amps im sure. the decoding was superior and the PLII was a big step in watching older 2 ch movies. I love it and am telling my freinds for the bucks its about the best. As far as THX cert. I almost bought a Pioneer vsx36tx with cert from THX alomost same power less functions and didnt have near the quality of sound and functions and it was more money. You pay for that THX and it is a cert from a big name studio. That doesnt make it the best go and listen try out a few. I tried many THX made some movies sound dull and quite. Ill take my 3802 any day! Good luck and have fun!
