This remote can do it all. I stole mine at a local wholesale outlet store for $25.00 The IR receiver allows me to control my receiver from my deck without having to point the remote inside (very handy when company is over) I did have to send mine in to have a code entered for an older Marantz receiver, but everything works fine now. If you can get hands on one, do it.

Strength:

good backlighting and ergonomics

Weakness:

clock will not maintain accurate time, codes provided by manufacturer provide partial use of equipment, although manufacturer states that they will reprogram it with new codes for free I have tried twice to get their address to send it in, but they refuse to do it (customer service stinks).

This product allowed me to partially control the basic functions of the different components. For example, on my JVC receiver, I tried all the codes in the manual plus the ones on the web site plus the ones given by their customer support, yet could not change/select the source: so I have to walk to the unit and select manually (kind of defeats the purpose of having a universal remote)
My advice after 2 years of use: stay away and buy a learning remote such as the SL-9000 ($100 shipped)

Strength:

ergonomic, tactile buttons, pretty blue backlight

Weakness:

functionality, learning capability, customer support, a little bulky

This remote is not capable of controlling even the most basic functions of most of my contemporary and common equipment. Worse still, the learning capabilities are so limited that I can't work around the code problems.

Sent it back twice to have codes and software upgraded and its still inadequate even though customer service assured me that once upgraded it would operate my particular components.

I'm fed up with this remote! And customer service!

Strength:

Features, RF-IF, versatility, value (but see below)

Weakness:

quality, reliability--had three units and all failed within a week of purchase; manual could do a better job of showing the user the logic flow behind the programming commands

Was looking for an adaptable, universal remote with "learning" and macros for my HT system but didn't want to spend $300 to $500 or more. Based on performance reviews on this site and etown.com, I purchased One-For-All's Producer 8 with RF feature. Have now had three Producer 8 units from two different retailers, and all three have failed within a week. On two, the backlight feature ceased working (it emits a nasty-sounding whine when working "properly"), and on two (not same two), several of the buttons were not responsive from new and often took several pushes to get a response. Another (current) one seems to lose its memory on the "learning" keys and those have needed re-programming. I have endured through three units because of the features and inclusion of RF (enabling me to control audio from another room where extension speakers are), but now I'm giving up. From the oneforall.com web site it looks as if Univeral Remotes sold the "One For All" tradename to another company (click on "new products" link), which manufactures these units in China. Univeral continues to market its own line of remotes under the "Univeral" brand name. Based on my experience (which is what this site is about), I'd say the quality is just not there in the One-For-All line. It's unfortunate, because the features are so good for the price, but it ain't worth a hoot if it won't even work for a week. Features-for-price deserves 4-1/2 stars, but based on quality I cannot award more than one star.

Strength:

Backlight, will controll all funtions

Weakness:

Heavy and Awkward, limited battery life, buttons not locial for cable and sat.

This unit for the price is an ok deal but I wished I would have went for a good used deal on a touch screen. I bought it for the backlighting which works great but eats the batteries. I usually hit the light button see the button I neeed then hit the light button to turn off quick as to not use up the battery. This unit will have a button to do whatever you need on anything but they are in bad places. Especially on my digital cable box. To get to the guide I have to hit shift then a botton, to get infor I have to turn off shift and then hit another button. The shift control written on the remote and not the button can't be seen even with the backlighting, in short it is a pain in the ass and I still use the regular cable remote for surfing and fast info access. I would not buy this but invest toward a better remote. It also is pre-dvd.

Very capable remote controller, clock isn't accurate andthe layout is a bit awkward but love the fact that you don't
need the original remote and you can get all their codes/docs
off oneforall.com. Costs a tiny bit more than your average
remote but well worth it.

Strength:

Advanced Function Codes, MACRO KEYS and IR learning mode.

Weakness:

Batteries batteries batteries!

This has been a great addition to my home Theater Setup. This is the first remote that I have used that has eliminated ALL OTHER REMOTES. Controls all functions of my widescreen TV, VCR, DVD, AV receiver, CD and DSS. For every other "universal" remote there was always one component that could not be controlled or one major function that could not be processed. The Key Mover Function when used with advanced codes (see www.remotecental.com) allows you to put your chosen function on any key you wish. It has punch through so you can control the PIP or volume etc. from any device. Home Theater Macro lets you contol the major functions of each device without switching devices. The macro keys, have made this virtually "wife-proof"! My wife can now make the difficult jump between inputs by the press of one key. She can change TV input, screen format, audio input and speaker settings on the AV receiver without ever knowing what she's done! Press the other Macro Key and she's back where she started! The blue backlight does make the remote extremely enticing to my 10 month old daughter. I've been going through batteries every few months. Even when light is disabled she figures out how to turn it back on!
All other remotes are packed away for good.

Strength:

Rf Well, well laid out keys, backlight.

Weakness:

Eats batteries like popcorn.

Easy to use, don't have to directly point at equipment, macros, layout of the keys and the blue backlight. The only thing I don't like is that I can't get in to the menu settings of my Sony SLV 696HF vcr and needing to replace the batteries on a monthly basis.
Other than that, I think it's a good remote.

The producer 8 is great but I did not receive a operators manual with mine. Could I possibly have one sent to me. I can not connect with the oneforall.com for reasons unknown to me. Please send it to: Tony Zueleger, w5972 Wege Rd. Black Creek WI. 54106

Thankyou for everything I just want my family to learn how to use it.

I purchased this remote for my new home theater components which added 2 more remotes to a total of 5. The remote which came with my Yamaha RX-V995 is supposed to be a learning remote but is not easy to program and runs out of memory quickly. The A/V Pro 8 only requires a 3 digit component code to be entered for each component and from that point, additional programming is a snap. I highly recommend this remote to any one that is intimidated by learning remotes like I am. This remote is a pleasure to use and has lots of room for growing my home theater. The manual is easy to follow.
