Strength:

nice back light

Weakness:

can't assign learned functions

My goal was to replace 4 HT remotes with 1. I needed to buy a learning remote to handle my Raite DVD. This remote has dedicated learning buttons that can't be reassigned. While it learned the Raite remote fine, remembering which function was assigned to each L1-L6 key is impossible. Plus, to use more than 6 learned keys, you have to select a different device (ie, TV or VCR). Hopeless. It's going back.

Strength:

Learning Capabilities, Multi-room control, Very nice Blue and green light when lit, Hardly, hardly, ever have to use any of my other remotes.

Weakness:

Clock only accurate when a macro is set, learning buttons don't respond sometimes. Multi-room functionality a little touchy.

I have to say that I really do love this remote control, I have it controlling my disco ball along with my disco lights in my living room. I show people and they think that is amazing. I have put just about all of my other remotes in a box for safe keeping because I don't need them. I have taught this remote to control every audio/video option I use on a regular basis and it works fine. The only problem I have is sometimes I'll push one of the learning keys and it doesn't repond. Also when I am in another room I have to point it a certain angle to work. When it does work, people think that I have a ghost in my house. I'm sorry to say, but to those people who had trouble reading the manual, you guys must not be able to read, also, if you can't find a code you just call their number that is on the back of the remote or go to www.oneforall.com. It is that simple. Besides that, for the money that you are paying for this, you can't beat it.

Strength:

RF (don't have to point at device, can be 30-40 feet away), fairly programmable, reasonable layout for fixed-function buttons.

Weakness:

Learned functions only on special keys: hard to remember! Arcane programming. Could not set up regular keys for alternate IR channel 'B' on Mitsubishi VCR, or for Onkyo receiver's 2nd-room controls. Barely works from next room, not from farther. Only one IR emitter, so receiver box must be in line-of-sight to all 8 controlled boxes.

I've had it about 2 years. In spite of its limitations, I find I use this remote about 90% of the time for the A/V devices it supports (not including my main Mits. VCR). But my wife avoids it.
I had to use a lot of learned/programmed functions for Onkyo receiver. Finally I came up with a way to use the cryptic 6-button x 8-device combos that I can *usually* remember (e.g. button 1 for a selected device (Tuner/TV/DVD/...) changes Onkyo to that input for main speakers, button 2 for remote speakers, etc.). Battery life is fine (9-12 months), but I don't use the backlight often. I wish it had: longer RF range, additional IR emitter(s), able to re-program "standard" buttons.

Semi-programmable remotes from many devices, Radio Shack IR relay (via TV cable, room-to-room)

Strength:

Controls all functions of all components, versatile.

Weakness:

Unwieldy size, pointless LCD

Received this remote a birthday gift. I've tried replacement remotes before, but they would never to be able to control some functions, necessitating keeping old remotes around. No point in that.

The AV Producer controls every function on every component I have. While I don't own high end-equipment, this is the first remote I've used that really works as advertised. Key mapping makes the remote even more convenient.

The LCD is just dumb to me, it adds weight, cost, reduces battery life, etc. The remote is also too big and heavy; it's sometimes difficult to use with one hand. Buttons are intuitively laid out though.

All in all a good remote.

Purchased this remote at a local Circuit City for about $70.00. I think it's well worth it for what you get. I have 7 IR components to control and this unit works well with them all. The IR/RF combo is an idea that I love...don't worry about pointing right at the unit...just have at it and it works! So long as you can position the repeater in front of your gear. If you get the remote, call Allforone or visit their website to get the advanced function codes. You can really make the remote do what you want then. They pretty much have mapped every function the manufacturer provided in there somewhere...with the codes you can tie them the buttons of your choosing. Happy surfing...

I like my Producer 8. The only gripe I have is that it weighs heavy in your hand and is a little hard to hold since the shape of it seems to have been made for left hand individuals (?). Oh yeah, another gripe is that the play, ff, rev etc. buttons are at the very bottom of the remote whereas the center of gravity is much higher making it hard to hold again. I just moved the functions for these keys up to the top of the remote though. I guess that a plus for the capabilities...moving whatever function whereever you want.... okay, the last gripe that I have is that there is no support for indexing my VCR. This means I still have to use the VCR's remote to index to the beginning of whatever show I want to watch. Boy I'm really complaining alot for someone that has a 60 dollar but very powerful remote. Oh I really bought it for the REALLY cool blue back light. I'm kidding. I'm really sleepy and tired as I write this. Goodnight...

After you get this remote for 50 bucks you wonder why people pay >300 for other remotes. You can do anything you want with this remotes advanced codes. It can be difficult to set it up, but once done you are all set.

Bought the remote for $50 from smarthome.com, shipping was free. It arrived today. Within 1 1/2 hours, I'd read or scanned the entire manual and programmed in the codes for my VCR, DVD, receiver, TV and CD player. Set up the home theater mode, too, so the power key turns on and off all the components I want with one button. Still have to program some macros, but I am extremely pleased with this remote thus far. I agree with the other person who wondered why anyone would pay $200 for a remote? My wife already loves it, and she's used it for all of 10 seconds. Highly, highly recommend this baby for the money.
