Picture. Features.

None for me.

Excellent picture. DVD through component video is outstanding. The remote is easy to use and full featured. I like all the input/output options. I've had the set for more than a year now and have had no problems at all. I'd definately buy another Toshiba

Menu system a bit long in the navigation

This is a great set for the money. I paid $479 US after working with the sales guy, got a pair of Acoustic Research Composite Video cables tossed in for $20 to boot. DVD is awesome. Remote is well laid out and seems durable. Jack pack is well laid out and connections are easy to set up. Good instruction manual.

Strength:

lots of inputs, great pic., component video

Weakness:

harsh sound

For the price ($800cnd) this is a great tv. It has a much better pic than the non-cinema series. cheesy controler, but compaired to similar priced tvs this is great. But if you do buy this model, make sure to get it hooked up to an amp. The sound is aweful.

The picture of the set is good; but not as good as the 24" Sony WEGA we recently purchased. The color needed adjustment, and very easily gets over saturated; especially going from cable to satellite. I mostly watch talking heads and the sound is fine for that purpose. I've listened to music stations on satellite a few times and did not find the quality bad, but you wouldn't want to use the speakers for extended music listening.

It's now April 2000 and I've owned this set since November 1999. My major complaint is that twice within those five months the set had to be picked up and repaired because it completely died! No sound, no picture, no anything the first time it required repair, and only a single line of video across the center of the set the second time service was required.

The young man who picked up the set on both occasions bemoaned the poor quality of work done by robots, especially the soldering. Okay, maybe once,-- but twice!?! Within the first nine days it died, vertical output IC according to the repair form. Then again in four months the same vertical output IC had to be replaced. The repair shop had replaced and resoldered this circuit during the first repair!

So yes, lots of inputs, and the PIP is easy to use, and the broadcast picture is pretty good -- especially with DirecTV through S-Video.

However, two melt downs in five months is unacceptable. Maybe this one's a lemon and the one you want to buy will be fine. My final recommendation for anyone thinking of buying one of these sets is...

Caveat Emptor (buyer beware).

Strength:

Lots of inputs, including component video. Great price.

Weakness:

Picture geometry is a little off. Set requires extensive adjustments in the service menu beyond the standard user controls in order to get a decent picture.

I was very excited when I bought this set. I did a lot of research, including checking the reviews here at Audio Review. Everything seemed to point to this being the best value for the money I could afford. In the end result, I'd say that it is still a great value, but unfortunately the set gave me months of headaches before I was finally satisfied with it.

First, the good things: This is a 27" set with component-video inputs. Such a thing is still relatively rare, especially for the reasonable price I paid. It has a good selection of other inputs as well, and the tube is pretty flat.

Now some problems, in ascending order of seriousness:
1) The speakers could be better. They're not terrible, but it's definitely worth upgrading to a stereo/surround receiver and separate speakers.
2) The picture geometry is slightly flawed. I had a service tech come out and look at it. When he put a grid pattern on the screen, all of the lines were perfectly straight right up until the very top quadrants, at which point all of the lines curve inwards. The tech did everything to try to adjust it, but came to the conclusion that this model of set does not have the particular type of control that he needed to fix it. Since the problem is only visible in the very top part of the screen, and since the vast majority of programs I watch are letterboxed anyway, I decided that I will have to live with it. Still a nuisance.
3) The most serious problem, by far, is the color adjustment. When I first purchased it, the set's gray scale was way off, adding a very distracting green tint to dark grays. If you watch a black & white movie, it becomes green and white. Even on color programs, any dark scene becomes greenish and muddy. I spent many hours and days and weeks messing with the user controls to try to get this to go away. No dice. The only thing that helped was pumping the contrast and brightness to unacceptable levels.

Fortunately, with some help I was able to crack into the hidden service menus and adjust the green cutoff, among other annoying things that it was not possible to change by the consumer controls. I also found it necessary to change the settings individually for each type of video input (composite, S-video, & component). Otherwise, I would need to ride the brightness and color levels each time I switched between TV, VHS, LD or DVD.

Now that I have done all of this, I am finally happy with the picture on this set. Had I not been able to, I probably would have returned it and spent more money on something that would cause me less hassle.

I've heard from other people with this model who tell me that haven't had so many problems. I don't know, maybe I just got a lemon. Regardless, I can only recommend it to someone who is prepared in advance that it may need a substantial amount of tweaking to get it to look right.

Strength:

Component Video, 2-Tuner PIP, very nice color, nice features/ergonomics

Weakness:

Cabinet Width is *NOT* what Toshiba lists, so-so audio

Overall, I'm very happy with this unit. The ColorStream (read component) inputs are excellent.

Compliments:

1. Component video is extremely sharp and clean
2. Very nice color reproduction
3. Very nice image control
4. Captions display on mute
5. Lots of inputs
6. Nice, lighted remote.
7. 6-box PIP is a channel surfers dream.

Only complaints are:

1. Cabinet width is about 1 1/2" wider than stated on the Toshiba website and in dealer literature. I had to literally shoehorn this TV into my cabinet because of this.

2. Antenna Switching is easy with the on-set control, but to switch from antenna 1 to antenna 2 from the remote, you must go through the menu.

3. Why oh why can't I hook up my cable box and be able to "swap" the PIP information? I can do everything else but that.

I paid $499 from a local Toshiba dealer

Strength:

2-RF Inputs, 2 Video Inputs w/opt S-Video and Component Video, Backlit Remote, Factory Colour is near ISF Standards

Weakness:

Shows weakness of some TV Stations, but Digital Channels look dvd Like with Composite

I received this just before Christmas, and I must say.
It is worth every dollar.

It has its own PIP Tuner

I am going to purchase a Pioneer DV-525 DVD and I can wait.

Only real weakness is volume or speakers, but if you are using your Home Theatear no problem.

I usually have the volume set a 52 out of 100.
But the speakers are mounted or built-in to the front and aiming to the side walls and it has it own SRS setting on the sides. Not Front-Firing, or mid-side.

Load of Inputs and Outputs, great backlit remote and it control my Digital cable box, vcr and of the TV and it has nice size: channel and volume buttons.

The reseller stated that is the closest factory setting to ISF standard he has ever seen.
