My set is now 12 years old and have never had any technical difficulties.

Strength:

Will look good in the land fill.

Weakness:

Need another guy to help me get it there.

Do not buy any Toshiba product. EVER. I have had trouble with this set right from the start. It has been worked on several times but comes back with same problems. I have been told that it is a manufacturers defect by two different repair shops. Called Toshiba on it they tell me oh well.

This TV sucks, I had it about a year picture started going really bad, took it to the gave me a $400 estimate to fix.
I said no way took it to another shop gave me a 150 dollar estimate they still have my TV I will probably be throwing this one in the trash can.

Picture was never really that great when the TV was working anyway.

Strength:

spartan remote, picture, price

Weakness:

menu will appear with just brushing the button

This tv has been everything I wanted it to be. I was debating at the time (Spring of '99) whether to get a 50"+ or get a tube and get an HDTV at a later date. Obviously went with tube. This tb has a very clear picture, especially with my DirecTV system. When using component input the picture and sound is extremely sharp.

I do have a little gripe about the remote. The buttons that control the VCR are terribly small and the menu button, as mentioned in the cons, will turn on at the slightest touch. This will not disappear without waiting 10 secs or else I have to use the surround sound button followed by volume to get all the displays to disappear in just a couple secs. Pain in the butt.

Regardless of the menu gripe, I highly recommend this or the current equivalent for those on a $1000 or less budget who want excellent quality. After nearly 2 years of use I haven't experienced any problems.
