Strength:

Excellent picture quality. Excellent sound quality, esp. speech intelligibility. Good fit and finish. Excellent performance/price ratio. Three inputs.

Weakness:

Some Geometric distortion (but since I don''t watch TV with the intent of looking for it, I don''t really notice it).

I bought the Toshiba after comparing same to other 20 inchers at my local store, focussing primarily on how it stacked up against a Sony 20" Wega TV (the less expensive Sony, which doesn''t have bass or treble controls or S-video input). Comparing identical source material on RF input (I''ll only be able to run an RG6 cable to this one at home) and setting up the video controls so that the picture contrast and brightness match as closely has possible, maximizing the sharpness control on both but setting the other sharpness control on the Sony to "off" (I forget what the control is called), the picture quality of the two TVs was extremely similar, with the Sony ever so slightly better. In terms of geometric distortion, I saw some on both. When I turned on the extra sharpness control on the Sony, The Sony picture quality exceeded the Toshiba in terms of sharpness. When using the BBE feature, the sound quality of the Toshiba was very clean with superb speech intelligibility. One thing I can''t stand about lesser TV''s is muddy sound that makes speech intelligibility poor and forces you to increase the volume to hear speech more clearly. The sound was evenly balanced between left and right so no balance tweaking is required. After buying the Toshiba and getting it home, I could see that the fit and finish of the Toshiba is very good. I wish there was a menu button on the front panel of the TV so that if the remote is ever lost, you can still access the menu. Like others, I too wish that the reset button was not on the remote. They should have made reset a menu item instead. Since I use satellite, I was pleased that you can program the channels so that only channel 3 can be selected. The geometric distortion seems to be mostly on the right side of the screen in that vertical lines are slanted like a trapezoid, sloping downward from the top of the screen to the bottom. I tried correcting it using the service menu but couldn''t correct it without screwinhg up the left side of the screen. All in all, I happy with my purchase decision. Ordinarily, I''m a Sony fan, but the performance/price ratio is far superior with the Toshiba.

Strength:

Flat Screen, Good picture and sound, S-Video and Component Inputs.

Weakness:

No front S-Video input; video input select only on remote; dumb reset on remote; way too much red push; lacks NTSC standard color temperature setting; does not do raster squeeze trick on wide screen DVD presentations.

Great Value

Strength:

Component video imputs!!!! S-video, and a total of 2 rca imputs, FLAT picture tube, 3-line digital comb filter, BBE sound processing, the BEST PICTURE QUALITY FOR THE PRICE!!!

Weakness:

The remote kind of makes me sad, i have to point it directly at the sensor and the universal remote does not provide support for DISH network satilight and dvd but provides support for dss.

among all of the 20" direct view tv's i checked out this particular model stood out for its impressive amount of features which in a few respects outweighs the sony wega models in the addition of a component video imput, there is S-video and BBE which makes this tv an excellent value for a small room where you would want a DBS receiver and or DVD player. Usually component video is used in professional studio monitors for it's color and amore quality but when you combine it with some of todays video game systems and DVD players it just puts you in absolute awe. The 560 lines of horizontal resolution is slightly lower than sony's 620 however the addition of component video just makes the picture have less signal loss and distortion than that of s-video which is what the sony model has. Next BBE enhancement allows a more natural sound even when the small speakers inside the tv are used.

Strength:

Picture quality, style, inputs for S-video and DVD

Weakness:

The previous reviewer mentioned it. I had to point the remote control directly to the Remote Sensor to make it work.

Very good picture quality for the price. The style is well thought, and the sound is alive.

Strength:

Stunning picture quality when using a DVD player connected to the component inputs, reasonable price, plenty of connections, compact size, BBE sound

Weakness:

Fit and finish of case is not the best, no front S-Video, it's too easy to reset the picture settings.

This is a top notch set. However, I am very disappointed that Toshiba included a reset button on the remote control. One accidental press of this remote and your contrast setting is jacked up to the dangerous level of 100%. I had accidentally pressed the reset button, but did not notice until a few days after. As a result of watching TV with the contrast set at 100%, I probably shortened the life of this set. What an idiotic feature to include on the remote control. Besides this complaint, I don't have any others. However, the fit and finish of this set was not as good as my 2 year old Toshiba 32". Apparently, Toshiba has moved production of PureFlat TV's to Thailand. I have nothing against purchasing products made in Thailand, but the finish of this TV is not as good as the Toshiba's made in the US. There were plenty of minor scratches on the TV from the factory and that is extremely annoying. I must say that I was absolutely blown away by the picture quality. I just couldn't believe how 3D like some DVD's looked. Overall, this is a great tv for someone on a budget.

Strength:

Value, picture quality, audio quality, number of inputs.

Weakness:

Should have TV/Video and menu buttons on the set.

I needed a 20" set for a bedroom. I almost got the 20" Sony Wega, however, to me, I thought the Toshiba had a better picture. It was apparent to me that corners of the Toshiba
picture looked sharper than the Sony. Check station logos.
The Toshiba has a better warranty than the Sony.

I looked at Panasonic, JVC and Philips TVs but they did not
compare to the Toshiba.

The sound is great on the Toshiba especially with the BBE on. The set also has "Steady Sound" which keeps commericals from being too loud.

I am very pleased with the Toshiba and anyone considering the Sony Wega should look at this Toshiba first.

Strength:

Crackling picture, input options, sound, value

Weakness:

a little red-heavy

For my room size & product availability, this and the Wega 20-inch were the only options. It was very tempting to go with the Sony for name brand/reliability reasons, but the Toshiba had the features I needed, mostly the S link and plentiful room for input devices. In sound comparison the on the two sets, the Toshiba blew the Wega out of the room and that was the deciding factor for the purchase. And for $20 less.

If you think the flat-screen picture looks fantastic on its own, try hooking one up to DSS, the clarity is amazing. Jawdropping.

In a perfect world the remote control could also handle my DVD and DTV controls, but I don't buy a TV for the remote, so have no real complaints there.

In color, it seems the reds are slightly oversaturated; even after many tweaks I haven't been able to tone them down completely without compromising some other aspect of the picture, but it's not such a huge condition that it becomes annoying in the long term.
