Strength:

As described in others

Weakness:

Tuner. Maybe just this one but beware

I recently got the XBR450 and am quite disappointed with its main tuner. About 10 minutes in, most channels lose their sharpness, some with what I guess weaker signal show highly visible static horizontal and vertical bands. I can attribute this to the tuner rather than the cable signal due to:

(i) It only showed up after being heated up, and
(ii) I turned on PIP with both tuned to the same channel, thanks God, the other channel was normal and everyone could tell the difference.

I have the cable connected directly from its outlet, not via cable box and/or VCR.

My in-law has the XBR400 and it is quite superb. I hope this is an isolated incident which will not happen on the replacement I will get or I will opt for a different brand. If you see something similar, you have the right to doubt your cable signal but do yourself a favor and not overlook the TV tuner. My rating is based soly on this one TV.

Strength:

DRC circuitry,HDTV ready with 16-9 vertical compression, NO SCAN LINES WITH DRC ENGAGED.

Weakness:

None so far, but the demo unit i looked at had major geometry problems.

This set is amazing no scan lines with the drc on , also can control the vmc from the menu, i have not seen any motion artifacts so far , that is what i worried about before buying this set, new menu system looks great.Regular cable looks perfect and very 3d looking. If you have a xbr250 this set is very close to that in terms of picture , just with out any noticable scan lines.

Strength:

GREAT PICTURE CLARITY AND DEFINITION, ESPECIALLY WHEN USING DVD

Weakness:

WEIGHS A TON

PRETTY EASY TO FOLLOW ON SCREEN MENUS, PICTURE AND COLORS ARE UNBELIEVABLE. LIKE LOOKING OUT A 3' WINDOW. DID THEY HAVE TO MAKE IT SO HEAVY THOUGH? WEIGHS ABOUT 275LBS. WITH ALL OF THE WIRES TO HOOK UP, YOU NEED EASY ACCESS TO THE REAR OF THE TV. MINE IS LOCATED IN A BUILT-IN BOOK CASE AND I FOUND MYSELF HAVING TO TRY AND MUSCLE THE TV BACK AND FORTH GETTING EVERYTHING CONNECTED PROPERLY...THOUGHT I BROKE MY BACK A COUPLE OF TIMES AND THOUGHT I BROKE THE TV A COUPLE OF TIMES. OVERALL THOUGH, NOT A BETTER PICTURE AVAILABLE THAT IS NOT HIGH DEFINITION AND I THINK THIS PICTURE WAS BETTER THAN MANY OF THE HIGH DEF. SETS I LOOKED AT. PAID $1950, WOULD HAVE GIVEN A 5-STAR VALUE RATING IF I COULD HAVE GOT THIS FOR ABOUT $1500.
